Thanks to this thread I have been inspired by all of the creative ladies and gentlemen to learn how to sew! Suffice it to say a couple of weeks ago I did not even know how to turn on a sewing machine Fortunately part that was included in lesson number one We also praticed sewing on scrap fabric in straight lines...ok well they were supposed to be straight lines and in circles which brought me to the immediate realization that it will be a loooong, looong time before I can even think of appliquing a Mickey head on anything
I bought my first pattern and chose a Simplicity one that had the word "easy" on it. In my warped sense of logic the brand "Simplicity" should equate to simple and the word "easy" on the package should imply that it is in fact... easy. Yeah... no... not so much. I could literally hear a deep evil and sinsiter "Bwaa Mwaa Haa Haa" emanating from the pattern paper as I attempted to decipher what on earth I was supposed to do with it How these makes sense to anyone without an architectural or engineering degree is beyond me
Well, the pattern pieces have been cut and some of it has been sewn. My instructor even suggested I do a decorative topstitch. To which I replied that I didn't think people who couldn't sew straight lines should be doing decorative top stitches I gave it a go and actually sewed straight I'll be darned if my fabric isn't staring to resemble an article of clothing I'll post pics when I'm done. Everyone's kids might be in college at the rate I'm going though
Good Luck to ya! Wait, is THAT what a Golden Retriever is supposed to look like???? BEAUTIFUL! I have two goldens myself, except they aren't as beautiful as yours! Don't you love the breed? They are the best with my kids and daycare kids! Mine are Amber and Clifford the Big Red Dog.
Finally, here are the outfits we took to Disney. PLEASE PARDON the wrinkles. I took pics when the clothes were sitting in the "I need to iron" pile.
These first ones I made for DD4's birthday party on Aug. 18. She wanted a Nemo theme. I made the skirts and added the appliques to the tops. The girls picked the top they wanted. I then added some fabric applique to a top for me. DS1's outfit I have posted before.
This is my top and DD5's top and skirt.
This is DS1's shirt and shorts and DD4's top and skirt.
Here's another pic of the skirts.
DD4
DD5
I posted the pic of the Minnie dress before. I made a top to match for me and shirt and shorts for DS1.
This is what we wore to the Pirate & Princess Party. It rained most of the night. But I met Captain Jack Sparrow!!!
DD5 and DD4 wore matching skirts that I made. The bottom layer is white with a wide Minnie dot ruffle at the bottom. (It's a good thing I bought 10 yards of the Minnie fabric. I've used probably 1/2 yard already! ) The middle layer is white, red and black tulle. The top is the pirate fabric with two rows of red ric-rac at the bottom. The Minnie shirts were bought at WDW on a previous trip.
These are the overalls I made for DS1. There's a pirate Mickey on the bib. (They're a little big. They fit DD4 very well.) This is the top I made for myself. The front is shirred.
The backs. There's a Mickey on the back of the overalls. And I pirate Mickey on the back of my shirt!
I've posted this pic before. This is the dress I made for DN10. She's the one who picked out the fabric. This is DD5 modeling it.
I also made a top for DN6, but don't have a pic.
I'm one of those people who buys too much fabric. I thought I bought enough fabric to make DN10's dress and look how much I had left over! I made 2 skirts, 2 tops, and accents on the overalls. I even have some for a Halloween twirl skirt that's on my to-do list.
And here's pics of dresses my sister made for my DD4 and DD5.
Where did you score the green Nemo fabric? It's cute! Love all your cool outfits!!!!
You buy too much, and I have to go back to get more fabric, almost every time! I need to buy plenty plus some!
