Thanks to this thread I have been inspired by all of the creative ladies and gentlemen to learn how to sew! Suffice it to say a couple of weeks ago I did not even know how to turn on a sewing machine :confused3 Fortunately part that was included in lesson number one :) We also praticed sewing on scrap fabric in straight lines...ok well they were supposed to be straight lines:sad2: and in circles which brought me to the immediate realization that it will be a loooong, looong time before I can even think of appliquing a Mickey head on anything :lmao:

I bought my first pattern and chose a Simplicity one that had the word "easy" on it. In my warped sense of logic the brand "Simplicity" should equate to simple and the word "easy" on the package should imply that it is in fact... easy. Yeah... no... not so much. I could literally hear a deep evil and sinsiter "Bwaa Mwaa Haa Haa" emanating from the pattern paper as I attempted to decipher what on earth I was supposed to do with it  How these makes sense to anyone without an architectural or engineering degree is beyond me :rotfl2:

Well, the pattern pieces have been cut and some of it has been sewn. My instructor even suggested I do a decorative topstitch. To which I replied that I didn't think people who couldn't sew straight lines should be doing decorative top stitches :rolleyes1 I gave it a go and actually sewed straight :thumbsup2 I'll be darned if my fabric isn't staring to resemble an article of clothing :cool1: I'll post pics when I'm done. Everyone's kids might be in college at the rate I'm going though :rotfl:

Good Luck to ya! Wait, is THAT what a Golden Retriever is supposed to look like???? BEAUTIFUL! I have two goldens myself, except they aren't as beautiful as yours! Don't you love the breed? They are the best with my kids and daycare kids! Mine are Amber and Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Finally, here are the outfits we took to Disney. PLEASE PARDON the wrinkles. I took pics when the clothes were sitting in the "I need to iron" pile.

These first ones I made for DD4's birthday party on Aug. 18. She wanted a Nemo theme. I made the skirts and added the appliques to the tops. The girls picked the top they wanted. I then added some fabric applique to a top for me. DS1's outfit I have posted before.

This is my top and DD5's top and skirt.

This is DS1's shirt and shorts and DD4's top and skirt.

Here's another pic of the skirts.

I posted the pic of the Minnie dress before. I made a top to match for me and shirt and shorts for DS1.
th_DSC06654.jpg

This is what we wore to the Pirate & Princess Party. It rained most of the night. :sad1: But I met Captain Jack Sparrow!!!:cloud9:

DD5 and DD4 wore matching skirts that I made. The bottom layer is white with a wide Minnie dot ruffle at the bottom. (It's a good thing I bought 10 yards of the Minnie fabric. I've used probably 1/2 yard already!:rotfl2: ) The middle layer is white, red and black tulle. The top is the pirate fabric with two rows of red ric-rac at the bottom. The Minnie shirts were bought at WDW on a previous trip.
th_DSC06659.jpg

These are the overalls I made for DS1. There's a pirate Mickey on the bib. (They're a little big. They fit DD4 very well.) This is the top I made for myself. The front is shirred.
th_DSC06660.jpg

The backs. There's a Mickey on the back of the overalls. And I pirate Mickey on the back of my shirt!
DSC06661.jpg

I've posted this pic before. This is the dress I made for DN10. She's the one who picked out the fabric. This is DD5 modeling it.
th_DSC06568.jpg

I also made a top for DN6, but don't have a pic.

I'm one of those people who buys too much fabric. I thought I bought enough fabric to make DN10's dress and look how much I had left over! I made 2 skirts, 2 tops, and accents on the overalls. I even have some for a Halloween twirl skirt that's on my to-do list.

And here's pics of dresses my sister made for my DD4 and DD5.
th_SC06662.jpg

Where did you score the green Nemo fabric? It's cute! Love all your cool outfits!!!!

You buy too much, and I have to go back to get more fabric, almost every time! I need to buy plenty plus some!

Did it match then? I can't wait to see what you make!

It does match! I can't wait to get started on them!

Can't wait to see!!!!!

I want to make one of these, but I'm too scared to cut my Minnie dot!!!!!

... I met Captain Jack Sparrow!!!:cloud9:

I love all of your outfits, but I wanted to say congrats on meeting Jack Sparrow!!!!! That would make my day!

Hi Everyone!
I "Disney-fied" some capris for my DD9 tonight. Actually I was on this thread when the cable went out for some reason. So I took that as a cue to go get sewing!!! :cool1:

Cute!!! Looks like she loves them!

I am so excited to finally be able to share and not just lurk LOL :)

Too cute!!!

Tink ~ I have to say that Gracie's outfits are my favorites!!! You are certainly a super shopper!!!!

Now, I have to share my High School Musical outfits that I made for the girls when they go to HSM on Ice in two weeks.

This is Sarah's shirt and decoupaged jeans, she loves them! I used her favorite jeans that had a hole in them, now they are like new!!!

Jeans front

Jeans back

Here are Abby's jeans... she doesn't like to match Sarah exactly, so I did something different and her shirt is going to be a little different. Hers has more red in it, the characters are dressed in their Wildcats colors.

Jeans back

Now I'll have to wash them several times cause I just can't wait to see how they look when the patches start to fray.

BTW, the HSM patches are the printable fabric! I just found some HSM clipart and printed them out. Not too bad!

OK I am about to jump head on into the overalls at least. Figured it is something I can do to occupy my time at the moment while waiting on the stuff with the adoption. I am not a very good sit and waiter ;).

So my question for you ladies. Has anyone sent the stuff out to be embrodried sp. ? I am pretty sure I could cut it out and piece it all together but my sewing at this moment leaves a LOT to be desired. Wondering if it is insanely expensive to have it done?

Also it seems everytime I see Cinderella on the place that will not be named it is the same picture ... is there a pattern somewhere that I can go by or should I just be using coloring book pages like I had planned?

Great job....I love the two coordinating outfits! I bet they will get lots of compliments...wow HSM on Ice...sounds terrific! :thumbsup2

I am going to see dancing horses on dirt (Lipizanners) at the end of the month....:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I should make myself something to wear....ok time for bed...I think I am getting completely punchy :rolleyes1

All the outfits are adorable...but these caught my eye...Is the pirate fabric sheets from Pottery barn kids...I'm betting yes. If it weren't so late I'd run down and look at my kiddos bed! I love those sheets. They're on clearance now and I was looking at them saturday just thinking of the possibilities. (I work there very PT it's lots of fun and a nice mental break)

Cathy,

I think I may have created the term "Franken-pattern." When I was little my Dad fixed the lawn mover with several broken lawn mowers (that he could not part with.) We called it Franken-mower. Anyway, we had a whole series of Franken-fill in the blanks. I think his favorite was the Franken-vacuum. When I had the idea for Cinderella's work dress I knew I needed a few patterns. I think it is up to five now. :rotfl2:

The Franken-pattern was born.

I normally get ideas and then try to match the ideas to the patterns. I buy the patterns when they are on sale. Kind of for a rainy day. When Simplicity was $.99 I think I bought ever costume pattern my little heart desired. My DD loves to dress up. She asked me to make her a Captain Hook costume today. I told her it would go on the list but not to hold her breath! The good thing is I have the pattern.

I have a project notebook. When I went fabric shopping this weekend I brought my notebook. I had already written my supply list. When I got to the cutting counter everything was organized. I was hoping it would make them move faster. I was wrong!!!

The Belle dress is coming along so well. I have the bodice, sleeves, gold skirt, and rose bows done. I ran into a problem with the velvet over skirt. I made two matching sides. I have to redo one side. I have the extra velvet but I do not have enough trim. I was going to make a cape from the extra velvet but I will just wait and do that closer to our trip.

I will post pics on Monday. The trims have been a lot of work but I love the way they are turning out!

Is the pirate fabric from JoAnns? Do you know the name of it?

Yes, the pirate fabric is from JoAnns. I only have a little left and most of the words are cut off of it. One part says "An Original Scree" (the rest is cut). Another piece says "s 2006 Exclusively at JoAnn Fabrics".

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I found the fabric on Voldemort. I only have a JoAnn's around here and they don't carry much. NO princess fabric at all. :sad1: Our WalMart used to carry fabric, but took it out right around the time I found this thread and found that I love to sew.

I scored some Minnie dot fabric at Waldemart this week, and this is what I turned it into. Rebecca loves her twirl skirt, so I used the YCMT triple ruffle halter dress pattern, and changed the skirt to something more like the twirl skirt she loves. Is this officially a frankenpattern? (LOL, love that phrase!) We're off to the MK tomorrow...Labor Day is usually pretty quiet, so we've made kind of a tradition of going there the past few years.

Ok I hope I am helping. I bought a half yard and haven't touched it mine says (AN ORIGINAL SCREEN PRINT BY JENNY AND JEFF DESIGNS 2006 EXCLUSIVELY AT JOANNS.) Again I hope this helps. Oh yea now that i think about it on my receipt called something like the smily one eyed skull.

Nope, sorry. The treasure map fabric I bought from Joann's in late June. It coordinates with the Pirate Skull fabric.

I'll have to check out those sheets you're talking about, though. We're always looking for Pirate stuff around this house!

I love all of your outfits, but I wanted to say congrats on meeting Jack Sparrow!!!!! That would make my day!

I was giggling like a school girl while the kids were with him. He was SO GOOD with the girls. He played around with DN10's autograph book. She had the Pirate's one with the compass. He tried getting the compass to work and commented that it must be broken. He asked where we make port. After saying Pittsburgh, he said he heard there's pirates up there.

When the girls were done with pics, they tried ushering us off. But I stopped them. There was no way I wasn't going to meet Captain Jack Sparrow. He took my arm and rubbed my hand while getting our picture taken. I thought I would faint!

Definitely the highlight of my trip! Just don't tell DH!

I am trying to decide if I "need" to go to JoAnn today or if I "need" to stay home and keep my $$$$ in my checking acct. I have a sick kid so I'd be leaving dh and dd's at home and going all on my own. I need to sit and think about what I would actually be looking for. Who am I kidding???? I will most likely be going!

I am going to officially book my ESPN weekend trip tomorrow! I have some pretty cute ideas for an ESPN outfit for dd(will be 6 in march) and a top for dd(will be 10). What type of clothes do you experts suggest for March. I have only ever been in June and Sept/Oct when you wear as little as possible, so I am not sure if I need to dress a little warmer or not. I don't usually put anybody in jeans or capris, is March jeans weather or shorts weather?????

On :wizard: check out what I just won!! I have to say I am thrilled!!!

Girls Disney Princess Aurora Costume Pattern 6-8

Are you going to make it pink or make it blue??? I can't wait to see what you do with it!

It's quiet on Labor Day? I thought it would be crowded.

The dress is adorable! I've been eyeing that YCMT pattern! I like what you did with the skirt, very cute!

I believe it was Butterick 5019 (that's the one I bought.)

Do Buttericks EVER go on sale? I keep waiting!

Hi Everyone!
I "Disney-fied" some capris for my DD9 tonight. Actually I was on this thread when the cable went out for some reason. So I took that as a cue to go get sewing!!! :cool1:

DD wanted a ruffle and lots of patches. She picked out all of the colors etc.:

th_IMGP4008.jpg

She was really excited about it! I caught her practically twirling back to her room with her "new" capris on! ;)

th_IMGP4014.jpg

I probably should make a shirt to go with it.....but for now she has her Minnie t-shirt.....:thumbsup2

OK now everyone is in bed and the cable is up (obviously) so now I am going to read today's posts!!!:surfweb: :cheer2:

Cute!!! She looks so happy with them! I like that last picture of her twirling back to her room!

I have to say that I LOVE looking at this thread even though I have been a lurker. I have been so inspired by all of the talented people here. I wasn't even thinking about sewing until a few months into reading the thread. Well, this weekend I officially took the plunge. It isn't Disney but I have a few outfits I want to make first and then I am starting on some Disney things for our upcoming trip.

Here is DD's dress for picture day at school. My mother stood over my shoulder the entire time directing me. But I am pretty proud to have done it myself, even if she was directing LOL ;) The inspiration for this dress came from another one on the this thread. Thanks! I already see things I would have done different but oh well.
dsc0745ws6.jpg

I am so excited to finally be able to share and not just lurk LOL :)

I love this dress! It is so cute! I really like that alphabet fabric!

Thank you all for the compliments on Gracie's outfits. I need to tell you, since some of you are fairly new to the thread and don't know me... I didn't make *any* of the sets! They were all bought from sellers on Voldemort!

I didn't want to take credit for talent that I don't have. I'm just really good at shopping!:lmao:

Well, Angel, you are the queen of shopping, that's for sure! You pick out such gorgeous outfits for Gracie!

Where did you score the green Nemo fabric? It's cute! Love all your cool outfits!!!!

You buy too much, and I have to go back to get more fabric, almost every time! I need to buy plenty plus some!

Hobby Lobby had the Nemo fabric. I bought the double border fabric like that. It clearanced to $2 a yard. That was over a month or so ago though.

Now, I have to share my High School Musical outfits that I made for the girls when they go to HSM on Ice in two weeks.

This is Sarah's shirt and decoupaged jeans, she loves them! I used her favorite jeans that had a hole in them, now they are like new!!!
th_sarahhsm.jpg

BTW, the HSM patches are the printable fabric! I just found some HSM clipart and printed them out. Not too bad!
These are so cute!!! I love the HSM patches, that turned out great! I've been thinking of getting some of that fabric myself! Arminda would love to go to HSM on Ice, I'm jealous.

Obsessedwiththemouse and LadyRob, I believe have both said they send out their appliques. But, I don't remember how much they said they cost. I'm thinking $15, but I'm thinking that would probably be too cheap. Maybe one of them will pop in for a minute and help us out!

There is a link to a coloring page search engine in the bookmarks site, under the applique section.

Try calling and emailing Walmart about the fabrics. If you go to http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catalog.gsp?cat=542393 there is a place where you can send them an email. It also lists their phone number and mailing address. Bombard them! Let them know how disapointed you are that they took out the fabrics. There was a store near us that took out the fabric, and they got so many calls and emails, that they put it back. Get all your friends and family to call and write too!

But I am pretty proud to have done it myself, even if she was directing LOL ;) The inspiration for this dress came from another one on the this thread. Thanks! I already see things I would have done different but oh well.

I am so excited to finally be able to share and not just lurk LOL :)
I will call my mom for help, but she makes me nervous when she watches me sew! That dress is really cute too! I have seen so many cute things from that print here.

OK, you have to PM me who made the first set. I am in love with it and there is no way I can make one that fancy just yet.

That ruffle panel is so cool!

You sound like me. It is overcast and 50% chance of rain here. A perfect day to sew....I may have to go too. I have a coupon burning a hole in my pocket!

Beautiful! I adore your mix of patterns using the traditional colors!

I think today the boys clothes are outnumbering the girls.
Here is my latest Mickey head shirt for my son. Excuse the 3 y/o smile.

I have this exact fabric and red t's for DS and DNephew. This is just what I had in mind. I havn't had time to play with the fabric, but I was hoping Micky would fit in the head like that. I love it!!

This is so cute and your DD is darling in it. I love the straps!

Here is the Halloween outfit for the MNSSHP. I love the idea of the pink dress, wish I thought of it first!

Love this!

It can be both. We went at Easter one year (April) and needed sweatshirts some mornings and evenings. I'd plan warm weather clothing that can be layered. You'll probably only need the layers in the early mornings and evenings.

I hope your daughter feels better soon.

Tink561 - I LOVE that collection of outfits.... Oooohhh, I am so jealous. Where did you get them?
