A Make A Wish Trip - Final Update!! Pg. 33

Thanks for the update Wendy...I have thought about doing a TR, but I haven't decided yet...you and Mick have set a very high standard... While my DH is a funny guy, I don't know if he is as funny as he thinks he is...;) so we might not have the enthusiastic following that you and Mick have. If you get to the rest of your TR that is great...if not...I completely understand! BTW, did you do Seaworld and Universal?

We get back from Orlando on Sunday and my kids start school the following Wednesday. This will be the first year that all five of mine are headed for the halls of learning. I don't know who will be more excited, me or them.. actually I do know, it will be me:woohoo:! Looking forward to more TR, but I as I said...I understand the time constraints that are on you...hope all is well in Chicagoland

You have a great time. Yes, we did do SeaWorld and Universal and I have some tips for you about them. I hope I get to them before you leave!

Oh, and you need to do a TR. Remember all the other Wish families that need to know what you know! Besides, I can't wait to here about your trip!

I got to thinking about the volunteers that make this all happen for you. You mentioned 1000 volunteers for the party for the kids? That is totally awesome. I cannot explain the feelings this has stirred in me. Maybe a bit guilty for not volunteering in that extent. At this point in our family's life it wouldn't be easy but as the kids get bigger I think I will definitely look into doing something like that. Your TR not only shows us the happiness your children and you had in your vacation but the generosity of others to make it happen. Thank you Wendy!

BTW - for anyone interested in a "sort of" way to donate to the Make a Wish Foundation. Lays Potato Chips has specially marked bags that allows you enter a code on line and then Frito-Lay will make a donation to MaWF.

Wendy THanks for another great installment:goodvibes ! The pics are great as usual! Braeton saw the pic of Michael meeting Lightning and said "how cool! Can I talk to him too? " I said yes and he goes "Cool oh look I think he's got sealed doors." I said yes... and he says "well I can still talk to him" and crawled off to finish destroying my Living room:laughing:

001_1_00.jpg

As you can tell in this pic if you look at Danae's hair, the blue goop hasn't come off.
002_2_00.jpg

Wow! Grandma did such a beautiful job on the kids' outfits! There's "love in every stitch!"

You took great safari pix considering you were getting bounced around so much!

Great AK update. & thanks to the poster about the Lays Chips--I'll have to check that out.

Alright, we get off KS and we are plum exhausted. We "discuss" our options and we decide to go ahead and try and catch the 1040am showing of Lion King. We get kids into their "magical carriage" and off we go. At this point Mick apparently finally wakes up and proceeds to talk to anyone who will listen. He makes friends with several people on our way to Camp Minnie-Mickey. We make it into line, and of course Michael needs to potty. Thankfully, as he leaves, Danae decides she will go to and off Mick goes with both children leaving me to hold the spot. We are near the front and surrounded my vets. Mick returns with the children just in time and inside we go. We are the first ones in and get front seats. We get a wheelchair area in the hopes that the kids will stay put for the show like during the parades.

As you can see, I brought earplugs for the kids and Danae actually wore them! We were hoping Michael would but he refused. With his sensory issues, we are apprehensive here.
041_41_00.jpg

He enjoys the preshow immensely.
042_42_00.jpg

043_43_00.jpg

The show starts and Danae is in awe!
051_51_00.jpg

They love the monkeys which they've seen on youtube before.
054_54_00.jpg

Michael and Danae both get to go out there and Danae has a blast. She goes so fast and is so excited!
058_58_00.jpg

Mick gets to run around with Michael and apparently creates a scene with the monitors. Oops!

They get back and Michael complains abou the noise. It is so loud.
060_60_00.jpg

And he finally gets his earplugs on.
063_63_00.jpg

We survived the show. Danae thinks it was so cool. Michael says it was "ok" but "too loud". I love it and Mick says he really didn't get to see it.

We step out and Mickey is having a Meet and Greet. Since we haven't seen Mickey yet, we decide to give it a try. We get in line as we don't seen any CMs. This was a "bad" idea as we get near the front of the line (with our stroller), Mickey is about to go on break for "five minutes". The kids are getting restless and we're considering not waiting. I mention to the CM that we're with GKTW and if there is anything we can do. She explains there isn't as it would cause to much of a commotion (to get us to the front, and she is right) and Mickey really needs his break. When she turns back, there is another GKTW family who appears to have found the exit for the Meet and Greet and they take that family (which we totally understand). The CM comes back to explain and I tell her I understand. No worries. Meanwhile, Mick is yapping it up with the people in back of us and has gotten Michael and Danae's attention and the family helps keep them occupied while we wait (a big thank you to that family). It is the fastest five minutes I've ever seen and we are soon up front. The kids, on the other hand, could care less that Mickey is there.

065_65_00.jpg

064_64_00.jpg

Apparently, my kids have very little love for the mouse! :confused3 :rotfl2:

We decide we are done with AK. The kids are tired and cranky and it is hot!

We get back to GKTW and "rest" (no naps!) as we have an ADR for Hollywood N Vine at 2pm. Will we make it in time? Will the kids care? Will any fun be had today?

Thanks everyone!

DM, you are so sweet. I will tell you where the volunteers come from in my version, btw. :)

Thanks. She did do a great job. I love her sunflower outfit the very best I think. She just recently made a hair thing to go with it. It's adorable.

Well, enjoy the rest of AK. :)

Hi Wendygrace,

I just discovered your TR and I have really enjoyed it. I have cried tears of joy through most of it. You have a wonderful, beautiful family and I am so happy :goodvibes that Michael's bday was so special for you all. Love those CMs. The pictures with Peter Pan are just so sweet. The look on Michael's face is priceless.

I was really touched and inspired by your TR. I have read some of this to my kids and DH and we all were moved by it.

Thanks for sharing your family and the magic. I am looking forward to reading more.

Darlene

Can't wait for more!!!! When is Sea World???:confused3 Are the other parks as accomodating as Disney??? Love all the pics.:goodvibes Your kids are adorable!!!:)

No pressure on you ---- right??? Sorry just excited to hear about it.

Alright, we are back at the villa. Well, no trip back to the resort is complete without some ice cream. So off we trek to the Ice Cream Parlor.

And no trip to the Ice Cream Parlor is complete without a trip to see the Ole Elmer and a ride on the Carousel and a walk through the Castle of Miracles. I make a note to myself that I still haven't taken Michael to do his star or taken the kids to do their pillows. Finally we have some Ice Cream and retrace our steps (caste, carousel, the tree, through the pool) and get back into the car. We are now hurrying to get ourselves to Disney MGM Studios. We get in, do our usual stop at Guest Services and pick up a stroller. We're pushing along and I realize I haven't done any pics yet with photopass today. I want to buy the photopass and I have no pictues. Uh oh! But we are late!

We arrive at Hollywood N Vine and check in. And we wait...

If you look closely in the window, you can see me in the reflection! :rotfl:
067_67_00.jpg

And wait.
068_68_00.jpg

ok. It really wasn't that long but we were starving!

We're barely seated when its time to get up and dance...
069_69_00.jpg

We finally get our food and sit and here comes June. Here Michael has just received a kiss from June and he's brushing her away. He wants to eat!
071_71_00.jpg

Here's a pic mom. Can I eat now!?
072_72_00.jpg

Then goliath stops by. Note the food in Danae's mouth.
075_75_00.jpg

Then JoJo. Mmm food!
077_77_00.jpg

Michael gets enough food to finally give me a decent picture.
078_78_00.jpg

And just as Leo gets to our table, its time to dance.
080_80_00.jpg

Leo is Michael's favourite and he really is loving this, now that he's had some sustenance.
082_82_00.jpg

And some more dancing.
084_84_00.jpg

085_85_00.jpg

And finally a pic with Leo
086_86_00.jpg

Michael goes back to eating but Danae follows June, her favourite, around.
091_91_00.jpg

At this point, Michael takes off. He is done! No enticement of cake will bring him back. I usher Danae out the door to catch her father and brother (and I cross my fingers that they find each other) and I pay the bill.

I go to find them. Mick calls and tells me we're getting ready for the parade. It is now 3pm. All that interaction within 45 minutes! So I'm off in one direction, Mick is in another and I can't find them. Finally, literally seconds before the parade crosses us, I find them.

They are tired and cranky
092_92_00.jpg

Parade went ok but there wasn't anything to exciting. A few happy birthdays though! :)

Next we decide that we'll do one more thing. We need to get a pic of Michael and Mater. We head in the general direction. We discover that it isn't as easy to find but after wandering around awhile we find it and the "Singing in the Rain" Umbrella.

096_96_00.jpg

We finally see people lining up and CMs giving directions so we head to where everyone else is. It is chaotic. CMs and security are trying to keep people contained. There is a line but some people are ignoring it. We touch basis with a CM who places us in front of the line. She tries to explain to the first person in line what's happening and Mick hears an exchange. Someone was a bit grumpy about it and I feel bad but I didn't hear it to be able to try and explain. Things happen quickly at this point. We are a bit apart from the line as people are actually being loud in line and Michael is getting a bit agitated. Finally we see the Cars!
098_98_00.jpg

101_101_00.jpg

102_102_00.jpg

Now, see those people on the side there in that last picture. There are more people behind them and they rush forward. Security is yelling at people to get back (I assume the cars can't see them). People in line are yelling and screaming and its chaos. Mick steps back with Michael as we are told to come forward. I yell for Mick and Michael and its nuts. Finally Mick and Michael get forward and Danae refuses to go anywhere near them and Michael freaks. He won't go unless Danae goes.

104_104_00.jpg

106_106_00.jpg

Overall, although Michael was glad to have "met" the Cars, it really was too chaotic for my easily overstimulated kids. It is too wide open to really contain people in this area and apparently people were really upset we were allowed to "cut in line". :(

This day wasn't going like yesterday. However, even though it was going "poorly", it was still better than any other day we've had in weeks.

We are done and we head back. On our wait out, we find a photopass guy and get pictures done. I'll have to get those pics when I have access to them.

I believe we head back to the villa and the kids collaps in bed and actually take a small nap. We miss the beginning of the Pirates and Princess party but that's ok.

Finally, the kids are up and we head out. I forget my camera so you're not gonna get many pictures here. As I'm walking about there are a ton of mainly women walking around with t-shirts that say "Disney VoluntEARS" and "The Children's Place". Apparently, The Children's Place is having a conference and tonight they are all volunteering here. There are probably about 10 volunteers to every kid. As Mick mentioned, Michael as no interest in the party. He is still quite overwhelmed and must do some of his "things". Mick and Michael head through the party and to the train which apparently they ride to exhaustion.

I, however, get to spend my time with Danae. She is having a royal blast. They have a "Princess Makeover" section where the girls get make-up, their nails painted, are given those princess wand looking things, and then they get to go through a group of girls and go the line of the "Magic Mirror". This mirror has a clear shot of the kids somehow as she is talking to them and can hear them. Danae is fascinated. She stands in front of the mirror and talks and talks. Finally, they line up all the girls and boys (the boys are having pirate makeovers) and they call each child up by name onto a "stage" where they present each princess with a crown and each pirate with his pirate hat, one by one. When Danae gets called, Danae steps out and blows kisses to "her people". I so wish I had pictures. It was just too cute. We mill around for awhile and Danae goes to the mirror again. The mirror remembers her and they talk awhile again. Finally, Mick joins us and I convince Michael to get his pirate stuff. He does and he is the last boy to get called up. When his name is called, he walks through and "grrrs". It is too funny! They have stations all over with "pirate and princess loot" ("jewels"), they can make purses and treasure chests, they have all kinds of art projects and a "treasure hunt" going on. At the end, they have book bags (Princesses or Pirates of the Carribean) out for all the kids with loot inside. Apparently this was a special Pirate and Princess Party so I am not sure how this holds up to the usual. Oh, also a Pirate Shamu character was on hand taking pictures and either dancing with the princesses or sword fighting with the pirates. Also, Mayor Clayton was out and about greeting the kids.

DSC_0208.jpg

DSC_0209.jpg

They have all the rides going so of course we make a pit stop for some Ice Cream (Banana Split for me!), the Carousel, the Castle, and then we get back, order a pizza, eat and finally go to bed. The kids dream of Princesses and Pirates. It was a good day.

No pressure on you ---- right??? Sorry just excited to hear about it.

Thanks. Yes, we do go to Seaworld and Universal. I'm gonna try and get this all out before 5dwarves leaves for her trip.

So now we've had an awesome day and a "rough" day. We are exhausted. I have scheduled a late start day for Wednesday. Our plan is resort in the morning and Seaworld when we get around to it. Hoping to catch the evening shows. I'm so excited. Seaworld is one of mine and Mick's favourite places. Will we enjoy Seaworld as much as before? Will we even make it to Seaworld tomorrow? How will the kids hold up? Inquiring minds want to know...

Sometimes, you "just got to roll with it!" :rotfl: As long as Michael had a great time, that's all that matters.

OMGosh. I am SO happy I found this TR!

Your family truely had a Magical Vacation! The interaction with Peter Pan was just amazing! I was in tears!

oh yes. We "roll" hear often. He loves his repetetive activities. Especially if they go round and round (like the train and the carousel). Apparently, he was enjoying himself with the pretty volunteers so its all good. LOL

I am glad you are enjoying it. I think of our trip often and love seeing the pictures.

Hoping to put up one more update here before bed.

So Wednesday we roll out of bed to find that Michael is up, eating cake, watching tv and has pushed the chairs to the doors, trying to open the chain locks (which, thankfully, are way up high!). I don't even have a clue what time it is. We shower, dress, and head out to breakfast at the Gingerbread House. It is soooo cool! It is a buffet with eggs, bacon, cereal, milk, juice, fruit, and a waffle bar. You check-in, go through the line and then volunteers take everything to your table. You are not allowed to clear your table when you are done either. It is too funny. Mayor Clayton and Mrs. Merry mingle with the crowd. It is so neat to see all the other families. Our goal for the morning is to do "horseback riding" which is really either a pony or horse ride around the ring but I'm excited. :) We're also taking it easy and going with the flow. Of course, after breakfast we must eat ice cream, go to the train, the castle, the carousel, and have a general good time all around. We finally somehow meander over to the corral and get in line. Michael gets to go first.

108_108_00.jpg

He's loving this pony ride.
112_112_00.jpg

113_113_00.jpg

Danae is up next.
114_114_00.jpg

She's loving it.
117_117_00.jpg

The funny look on everyone's faces is because its started to sprinkle.
118_118_00.jpg

And then rain. Hard. We go under cover. "We" being the sensible ones in my party and some of the staff. Mick is off talking with the volunteers with the horse as Michael wants to ride the horse now. They are getting quite wet but they don't care. It stops within 10 minutes though and Michael gets his horse ride.

121_121_00.jpg

Which he, of course, is loving.
122_122_00.jpg

Monkey See, Monkey Do.

128_128_00.jpg

129_129_00.jpg

The kids get cowboy hats and certificates. I love them! But how am I going to get them home!?
After this, we head back to the villa which is literally two houses away. We sit and relax a minute and at this point I can't remember whether we swam first then had lunch or vice versa. LOL

Swimming was great! Its a neat pool with "spitting frogs" and a zero entry pool and water wheelchairs. The kids really enjoyed themselves and Mick and I love the water so we had a blast. We were there for awhile, talking with the other families who were there. The kids played with another child who was there on their wish trip and a good time was had by all.

I do believe after all this swimming we went to the Ice Cream Parlor and grabbed some sandwiches (sandwiches and hot dogs are availabe at the Ice Cream Parlor from about 1130-3 or something like that) and of course some more ice cream (mmmm, banana split!). Friendly's is the company that supports the Parlor, btw.
0360IceCreamPalace.jpg

We did our now usual reveral of activities from the parlor and headed back to the villa for a nap. And we all crashed happily, right? Well, someone did laundry. :) Our plan is for Seaworld at some point this afternoon and into the evening. We shall see if that pans out. We've had a full day already and its only noon!

We finally wake up from our nap and its about 315pm or so. Boy were we tired. We dress and get out the door. We get a call from the front desk that we have info regarding a Meet and Greet with Peter Pan for tomorrow. This will require a change of plans but that's already. We are feeling a bit guility since we have already met PP so we make a quick call to our Wish people back home and tell them the situation. They tell us that we can decide to go or not and we decide to do so. Michael will love another meeting with Peter. We finally drive out to SeaWorld! yeah! Mick and I are soooo excited! I have been to the Seaworld in San Antonio as I used to live out there and Mick has been to the one in Cali as he lived out there. We can't wait to see this one.

We get lost in this parking lot and end up in the handicapped section somehow. We stop and ask one of the attendants directing traffic and he just puts us in the next spot. It does not look as busy as Disney is.

131_131_00.jpg

132_132_00.jpg

The one problem with this is that we are feet from the entrance and there is no tram! Michael has a royal meltdown! Full on kicking screaming fit! Oh boy! Is this a sign. I hope not! We really want to see this park!

He finally calms but my hands are now full. I do not have easy access to my camera as Michael needs a lot of hands on. Mick is grumpy and not dealing well already.

We get into Seaworld and head to Guest Services. I like this Guest Service because it is inside and small and nice. The "baby" room is right there as well. There is water available and as I try and get what we need, including a map, Michael is bouncing off the walls. He is hyper. Mick isn't dealing with him well. Note! the nice guest service lady notices that my hands are full and that Michael is quite hyper and asks if we want a bracelet. What bracelet, I ask. Oh, one of these. And pulls out those bracelets that get put on kids at amusement parks or swimming pools. Their brightly colored and stick to themselves and you can write on them. She says, we put your cell phone number on it and if he gets lost, we'll call you. I'll take two! She tells us we get a free fish plate at the dolphin place and she calls and finds out there is a feeding here soon. Michael is still bouncing off the walls so we go into the baby room. Its small and quiet. I think there are two nursing stations, several highchairs, etc. Cute! Another nice thing about this place is that the strollers are right next door to the Guest Services office. We go and get our stollers. Michael takes off. He is not having a good day. Not good! grrrrr!

Ok, finally we have them in the stroller. Off we go. I'm looking at the map, trying to plan the shows we want to see. Mick and I argue over which shows we should see and when. All on the way to the dolphins! At one point, I stop and Mick keeps going. We're seperated and we're angry. Not good. Will this day get any better?

We finally make it to the dolphins and we wait. Mick goes to chat with some of the workers while we wait. We are waiting in the wheelchair access area, btw. We do get a free dish and we buy one more for Danae. Mick and I are soooo excited. I try and take pictures but I love touching the dolphins so I didn't get many. The photographers there take a few of Michael. I get to touch a dolphin. Danae gets to touch a dolphin. However, Michael can't get close enough due to his abdominal defect. Mick stops one of the trainers and asks for some help. She goes looking for a specific dolphin. After several minutes, she finds this dolphin who actually stays put even without fish. She apparently is well trained and someone gets a good picture of us four and the trainer (however, I don't have a digital version). Michael gets to pet a dolphin! Yay!

Waiting for dolphins. Note their bracelets!
133_133_00.jpg

134_134_00.jpg

135_135_00.jpg

I go to a little hut and I decide to purchase a couple pictures. I do believe I get a discount and we are told not to miss the Christmas Party on Thursday as it is "the best". Apparently they volunteer at this thing often. We make note. The pictures were expensive and I'm not sure I would take them again but one of the pics is the only one I have proving Danae was there so I got it.

Ok. Now where? We both agree that Seamore and Clyde is how on our list and head in that direction. Note: get there early. Once the mime gets there, he mocks everyone who comes in after him and he is hilarious! We decide not to use the stroller as a wheelchair but sit in the wheelchair section as it is packed and we want to be close to the entrance in case we need to make a quick exit.

This is a fantastic show. Somehow, I didn't take one picture as I was so engrossed. And I had my hands full with two kids who were in the mood to be wiggly. They loved the show but Michael was up jumping and moving the entire town. We all truly enjoyed this show and we decided we'd like to see it again. There is a 7pm showing of this show but its "different". We exit and look at the map. We agree to go to Shamu but disagree on how to get there. I finally let him lead and he gets us lost. Grrrrr! We finally make it. We decide to take the stroller in as the kids are just too wiggly. They can't seem to stay still. We try a few occasions and Mick finally finds one. As we pull up, someone else takes our stop. Grrrrr! Finally, another spot but only one adult can sit next to the stroller/wheelchair. Fine! I squeeze into the row in front with Danae. Mick runs off to get something to drink. Mick gets back just in time for the show! The show starts and Michael looses it. It is loud and there is no way he is staying. Mick leaves with Michael. Danae and I stay but Danae is wiggly and I didn't enjoy the show. :( This has been another rough day so far. Off we go to find Mick and Michael and they are having the time of their life on the roller coaster! What roller coaster I say! See, I should have done more research on SeaWorld.

For those of you with young kids, their is an "amusement" type park outside of the Shamu Stadium. A mini roller coaster, twirly thing, and a few other rides as well as a waterworks. The kids love this thing and had a blast running around. Michael loves the coaster and we get "front of the line" access to this. After several rides, Mick and I decide the kids are just not going to sit through any shows and we call it a night.

At GKTW they are having "parents night out" where kids are paired with a volunteer and they do activities (movie, dinner, etc) right their on property. Awesome idea! However we are too late for it (you have to sign up for by Tuesday, I believe). That's ok. We get free popcorn and pop at the movie theater, we go ride the train, get ice cream, go on the carousel, go through the castle, see ole elmer and finally get back to the villa and order pizza, do laundry and crash.

Tomorrow, which was supposed to be a late morning is now an early morning. We need to be at MK and at POTC by 950am. Wheeeeee!

Will we get up in time and get out there? What will this Meet be like? Will Mick and I kill each other before the night is out? Stay tuned!

Looking back, Seaworld wasn't bad. And neither was AK or Disney MGM Studios. We were just tired and hot and Mick and I are not used to spending this much time together. I also should have scheduled more downtime. If I were to do it again, I'd probably skip AK and Disney MGM and spend more time at MK. I also would have done a lot more research on Seaworld and planned the shows prior to getting there. MK worked so well because I had a plan. And if we deviated from it, it was by choice. Without a plan, Seaworld was just too chaotic. We couldn't stop and discuss things as the kids were too bouncy. We did have a good time and we'd go to Seaworld again but not until the kids are older. Our kids are too :dance3:

Overall, at this point, we are havng a great time. GKTW is awesome and we really could have stayed there all day and been happy. There is so much too do! The parks were great and the staff everywhere we went have been wonderful! We are having the time of our lives.

Well, I am off to bed. Sleep well everyone.

Loved all of the updates!

Sorry about your yucky couple of days. As you know...when the kiddos are done (and frankly this includes the parents)...they really are done!

Side note---it took us 5 or 6 washings to get the goop out!!!
