On this day, June 8 1998 - Actor Charlton Heston formally assumed the presidency of the National Rifle Association. He vowed to use his star power to communicate the message that NRA members are regular, all-American folk. “At least that's a skill I have, and my public face is useful, too,” Heston said.

The Lion King originally started as a project called "King of the Jungle."
The Lion King was the first Disney animated feature to be an original story, rather than being based on an already-existing story.

okay, heres a couple facts,,kinda long, read it anyways.

EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World opened on Friday October 1, 1982. It was Disney's second theme park in Florida and, based on square footage, was the largest Disney theme park in the world at 260 acres (until 1998,
when Disney's Animal Kingdom opened). EPCOT Center was named to reflect the ideals and values of EPCOT the city. (By 1995-96, the name EPCOT Center was shortened to simply Epcot.)

The park's name derived from the acronym EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow), a utopian city of the future planned by Walt Disney. (He sometimes used the word "City" instead of "Community" when expanding the acronym.) Walt's original vision of EPCOT was for a model community, home to twenty thousand residents, which would be a test bed for city planning and organization. This vision was never realized. Walt wasn't able to obtain funding and permission to start work on his Florida property until he agreed to build the Magic Kingdom first - and he died 5 years before its opening day.

Instead of being a community consisting of homes and businesses, the $1.2 billion EPCOT consists of Future World and World Showcase.

Just two months before my beautiful brides and I , 8th. Wed anniversary, in June of 1988,,the opening of Disney's Grand Floridian Beach Resort ushers in an era of accelerated hotel building at WDW during which 10 new resort hotels have been added to date. The Grand Floridian, located at 4401 Floridian Way, is the third Magic Kingdom monorail resort located on the beaches of the Seven Seas Lagoon between the Polynesian Resort and the Magic Kingdom. The luxurious hotel - the crown jewel of the Walt Disney World resorts - is themed to be reminiscent of turn-of-the-century Victorian Florida. Also opening in the hotel is Flagler's restaurant, 1900 Park Fare restaurant, M. Mouse Mercantile shop, Narcoossee's restaurant, Victoria and Albert's restaurant, and the Grand Floridian Cafe restaurant. (In 1997 the hotel's name will be changed to The Grand Floridian Resort & Spa when a top-of-the-line facility spa and health club is added.)anniversary

Disneyland's Space Mountain is actually sunk 17 feet into the ground so it won't dwarf the Sleeping Beauty Castle.

It all started with the big bills the U.S. was running up fighting the Civil War. To help pay for the war, Congress established the Bureau of Internal Revenue on this day in 1862. President Abraham Lincoln signed the bill into law, making it possible for the feds to collect a three percent tax on incomes ranging from $600 to $10,000, and five percent on incomes over $10,000. Several precursors to the law were never officially enacted or enforced, and this law was just a temporary one...

The Bureau became the Internal Revenue Service in 1913. It was then that a 16th amendment was added to the U.S. Constitution permitting the Federal Government to once again collect a tax on income. Through a complicated system of rules, the Internal Revenue Service became the official collection agency and the reason why U.S. citizens all shudder and shake annually on April 15.

Well, ain't that just special .

We were very poor as a kid growing up,

HEY !! Today is Steve Martin's birthday !
Happy Birthday Stevie !!

Aug.14,1945,,
Comedy writer, stand-up comedian, actor & director Steve Martin is born in Waco, Texas. In 1950, his family moved to California and Martin from the age of 10 till 18, worked at Disneyland after school, on weekends and during the summers. His jobs included working in Merlin's Magic Shop
on Main Street and selling guidebooks at the gate. He was greatly influenced by legendary Disney entertainer Wally Boag (Martin himself was named a Disney Legend in 2005).
Martin today can be seen in Disney's Fantasia 2000 and the Disney/Buena Vista feature Father of the Bride. He also appeared in the special attraction "Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years" which was shown (from 2005-2009) at the Disneyland Main Street Opera House in Town Square. In 2005 he starred in Touchstone Pictures' romantic drama Shopgril (based on his bestselling 2000 novella of the same name). Martin can also be spotted in the "home movie" Disneyland Dream (a film shot in July 1956 and later chosen by the Library of Congress for its National Film Registry). A 10-year-old Martin briefly appears about 20 minutes into the film ... selling guidebooks at the entrance to Disneyland!
