Remembering a friend, 22 years later....

For 14 years after her passing, I posted a lengthy thread here on the community board, remembering Sylvia, a disboard member who passed away after a long fight against the beast, back on June 7, 2001. Many, maybe most, of those who knew her from back then, now amazingly 22 years ago, have moved on from here, on their own accord, or otherwise. Most here today , having come here over more recent years, have no knowledge or recollection of this wonderful lady from so many years ago, nor of her son, Nick.

Other than periodic updates about Nick and his grandma Margarete (Sylvia's mom), the lengthy read never really changed year to year, same pictures, same story. So, back a few years ago, I guess eight or so now, rather than posting another sort of same, very lengthy thread, I thought I would post just a short thought, a few pictures, remembering this wonderful lady, a friend, Sylvia. Still, this thread here has become pretty much the same, though shorter than years ago. And here it is again for today. A wonderful memory of a wonderful lady.

Earlier this year, when emailing back and forth after Sylvia's January birthday with Sylvia's mom, Margarete, she shared these thoughts, a bit of a Nick update.....

We are all doing well. And yes, Nick is still in his insurance position and is doing very well; having received a promotion and two pay raises already. In the spring he will be training for a higher position. I am very proud of him. He sees his dad and stepmom on a fairly regular basis now so that's good for him as well.

God speed, my friend, God speed.'s And continued good wishes for Nick, now about 27 years old.

A Memoriam that Margarete and Nick placed 2 years ago (click link)

I often sit and think about the years that have gone by
and of the happiness and joy that was shared by you and I.
No one knows how much I miss you
No one knows the bitter pain I have suffered since I lost you;
Life has never been the same .
In my heart your memory lingers
Sweetly tender, fond and true
And seldom does a day pass by that I do not think of you.
The years that we had with you
are worth their weight in gold;
the joy and laughter that you gave are forever ours to hold.
Remembering you is easy; I do it every day,
but missing you is a heartache that never goes away.

Forever loved and missed;

Mom and Nicholas

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Dreams really do come true
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops is where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
And the dreams that you dare to, oh why, oh why can't I?
Well I see trees of green and Red roses too,
I'll watch then bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Well I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark and I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying, I...I love you
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more than
We'll know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Someday I'll wish upon a star,
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops is where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
And the dreams that you dare to, ... why, oh why can't I

It’s a beautiful tribute, Dan. I didn’t join until 2003. I missed meeting a wonderful person.

Lovely tribute. I'm finding that truly beautiful people never completely leave; their love and friendship remain with us. Counting my blessings this morning...

Ohh, Dan. Every year you bring tears to my eyes with a lovely tribute to Sylvia. She was before my time here; I must have missed knowing an extraordinary person.

Dan, you have such lovely tributes for our Dis family. I wasn't here then, but Sylvia sounds like a lovely person. Happy to read her family is doing well.

That was a lovely tribute to Sylvia Dan! You really are a wonderfully warm person--it was so nice to hear of Sylvia again.

Just happened to jump on the boards for the first time in quite a while. Decided to check the memorium thread and was somewhat sad but also happy to see this thread. Very wonderful tribute @Dan Murphy. Hope you are well.
