Mulan II

To be honest I didn't even know that Disney was gonna make a sequel to Mulan and I remember learning about it from the preview on my Alice In Wonderland DVD and so when Mulan II came out on DVD my mom and I were excited to see it. And what me and Mom found was an actually well done sequel that is impressive and is not only a great sequel but a combination action/romance movie especially since in Mulan II Shang proposes to Mulan and asks to marry her and of course she says yes but why did they not end the movie with Shang and Mulan's wedding rather than jumping straight into Shang and Mulan already married and Mulan introduces Shang to Mushu? It would've been wonderful to see Mulan and Shang's wedding. I find it odd that in this movie Mulan was given the task to escort three princesses who were gonna be married but Mulan's friends were starting to have crushes on them and didn't they know that they weren't allowed to have crushes on the three princesses when they were already engaged to be married in the first place. The songs were cool but for some reason Mulan II had three songs only and one of the songs Like Other Girls is so funny with funny lyrics and how they pulled it off was pure genius. I cannot figure out why the band Atomic Kitten ruined their version of Like Other Girls and their version starts like a ballad but turns into something you hear at a teen clothing store like Hollister and Hot Topic and the lyrics of their version don't fit what Like Other Girls is. But the love theme of Mulan II Here Beside Me is marvelous and Hayley Westenra does a wonderful job on it and is the only good song in Mulan II. I think why Disney decided to make Mulan II in the first place was to see how well it would do and because Mulan was a hit movie in 1998 Disney thought Mulan II would have the same effect as well

Mulan II is actually one of the better of the direct-to-video sequels. The paralells to the original with the three princesses doing a song like "A Girl Worth Fighting For" but from the opposite perspective was well done.

It was a good sequel.

I also liked the Aladdin sequels, although I think the second one better than the first one.
Beauty & the Beast "sequel" (although really, it's in the middle of the first movie since it's about Christmas and Beast is still a Beast) was good too

Cinderella and The Little Mermaid sequels were blech.

A difference between the Aladdin sequels is that the first one was really the pilot for the TV series. The third was created as a proper follow-up after the series concluded.

Mulan II is one of my least favorite Disney sequels. The animation looks really....off to me (the majority of these sequels all have off model/wonky animation but this one in particular looks weird to me.) and Mushu is terrible lol

Cinderella 3 is one of my favorites because of how crazy and entertaining it is. Always a fun watch.

I have a soft spot for Little Mermaid 2 and 3 as I watched those all the time as a kid despite how bad they are (2 especially). I also had never seen the original as a kid so those two were my only exposure to Ariel.

The animation for all of them is just generally cheaper, but many are enjoyable as "TV animation" level, which m any of them were just pilots of TV series or a collection of episodes.

Oh yeah I get that. I actually think movies like Bambi 2 and Brother Bear 2 look decent. It's just something about Mulan 2's animation that bothers me personally.

Some of the later ones did improve in the animation department.

I noticed in Mulan II that Eddie Murphy did not provide Mushu's voice and was replaced by Mark Moseley and I think that Eddie Murphy should've came back for Mulan II although Mark Moseley was cool. But it was great to see most of the original voice cast return for the sequel especially the late Pat Morita who played the emperor with such talent. Was this Pat's final film before he passed away?. Mulan II would've been great to see in the theater because it's a awesome love story

Eddie was likely too expensive, especially when you consider that a lot of these direct-to-video movies might have become series. That's why the Genie was recast for The Return of Jafar. They were taking that to series and there's no way Robin Williams was going to commit to that, especailly at that budget. He did return for the third movie, which was a separate production.

It's not a bad movie, but I never found Mulan 2 to really be that great myself. Not sure if it's so much the movie itself, or if just had too much to live up to with the first one and it was a big letdown in comparison.

Cinderella 3, Aladdin 3, and Lion King 2 I think were the best direct to video sequels they did.

Yeah, it's okay. Most of those direct to video sequels are really. They get a lot of flak, but they are what they are. They didn't have the budget of tehir theatrical counterparts and are intended to just expand the story and entertain kids. Mostly, they do that.

I do like the song in Mulan II that is like the opposite take on A Girl Worth Fighting For - that was clever. Pocahontas II is pretty good, but it's jarring because they follow history and give her a new love interest. Of course, Smith was never her love interest in real life, but it's weird since they are associated together in the Disney version.
