This Mom/Daughter duo is at it again!
But this time, we're keeping it a little closer to home.

Our last WDW trip was this past May, and we just had to get our "Disney fix" in once more this year for Fall Break.

So for this trip, we decided on a road trip! But I definitely didn't want to drive to Florida. DD has been wanting to go to Savannah Ga for a while, so after looking online at some trip options, I decided that a couple of nights in GA would be fun, but I needed the extra Disney fix! So after looking into Disney's HH Resort, and with it being only about an hour drive from Savannah GA, and even better, with the "off season" rates, I knew I could do it!!

After the many WDW vacations, cruises, and road trips, this turned out to be one of our BEST mom/daughter trips!!!

Here we are on our most recent trip to Disney:

Hope you all join me on another Mom/Daughter journey!!!

Our trip dates were October 31-November 4, 2014
The first 2 nights in Savannah Ga, at the Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham.
Then the next 2 nights at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort.

We left home after DD got out of school on Friday, October 31st.
We arrived at our hotel around 6pm, and even though it was late, we were hoping to get a last minute reservation for a ghost tour, ON Halloween night!!

When we arrived, it was little chilly out, but it wasn't too bad, with a light jacket/sweater.

Here's a look at our hotel in Savannah, GA: Microtel Inn & Suites

I thought it was a cute, little hotel, with plenty of space for us!!

Once we got settled in, and made a few phone calls about the different ghost tours, and we found one that wasn't booked up! So we headed over to the meeting place in Downtown Savannah for our tour.

It was a small group, of maybe 12 people. Our guide was very informative about the history of Savannah, and the tales of the many ghost sightings and stories. It was very neat, walking around there at night!
But I am very skeptical about all that, but still enjoyed it very much!!!

Here's a few of my pics taken as we walked our tour (kinda creepy and beautiful at the same time):

After our ghost tour, we headed back to the hotel, so we could get plenty of rest & sleep before our next day, as we knew it was going to be a busy day with lots of walking!!!!!

Hope you enjoyed savannah. We love living here.ALOT of history here. And its only a 5 hr drive to WDW and only half hour to HH.You reallyneed to visit during summer some time.Island hopping is the best for shark teeth and nice shells. Thanks for visiting and come back sometime!

I'm here! :)

Great start, the hotel looks nice, and too cool about scoring a last minute ghost tour! What a great Halloween activity. I know they do them all the time but on Halloween it would be even creepier.

I would love to go back sometime and spend more time in Savannah.

It was beautiful!

Thanks for joining in!

I'm here!!! popcorn:: And I totally believe in ghosts, spirits and mediums!!! :thumbsup2

Glad you're here for another one of my TR's!!!
It was really neat, hearing some of the ghost stories of Savannah!

Savannah is on my must-visit list! Excited to hear how your trip went :)

Thanks for joining in on my TR!

The next morning, we slept in and had the hotel's continental breakfast, which consisted of the usual: muffins, cereals, bagels, fruit, and make-your-own waffles. We got ready and headed out for a day at Downtown Savannah.

First on our "to do" list was visit Paula Deen's "Lady & Sons" restaurant.

We went inside and checked in. I had made a 1:30pm reservation and we got there a little early, so we browsed around the gift shop:

They called our name and we were ready to be seated. The host directed us to the elevator where we would be seated on the 3rd floor.

I thought this was cute, right outside the elevator.

We both decided on the buffet, which wasn't far from our table. (There's a buffet on each of the floors) We were also right across from the bar.

Here's a couple pics from our view:

They bring your bread to the table, which is a ho-cake and a cheddar biscuit.

055_zps27b1bb4c.jpg

The buffet food was delicious!! I can't complain about any of it! Such good southern, comfort food!

The fried chicken and creamed corn was the best ever!

054_zpsc6c3d606.jpg

Another trip to the buffet included the baked chicken, which was really good, too!

056_zps10ff1288.jpg

For dessert, you get your choice of 3 desserts. Our choices were banana pudding, ooey gooey butter cake, or peach cobbler.

I got the butter cake, and DD got the banana pudding. It was really good.

I didn't get a pic though, but the dessert comes in the tiniest bowl you ever seen! That would be the only "negative" thing I could even say: NOT enough dessert!!! :lmao:

Our waiter was really nice, and he took our picture for me.

We took the elevator back down to the 1st floor, and I got a couple of quick pics of the 1st floor buffet, which was the same thing we had on the 3rd floor:

Before we left, we browsed around the gift shop again, and went to this upstairs area, that I didn't get to see before we were seated.
I thought this area was really cute!

Coming up: More Downtown Savannah!

That mac and cheese looks to die for! popcorn:: I've never heard of a three floor restaurant before, cool that they make it work. Lots of fun stuff in the gift shop.

After we left The Lady & Sons, we headed over to the Riverfront area.
(I had asked our waiter about getting there from the restaurant and it was a quick, easy walk from there).

It was very chilly and windy! So we didn't stay very long! Although, I would REALLY have loved to spend more time there because it was so pretty!

We headed back up the stairs. They have these signs posted. And the stairs are scarier than they look! :rotfl:
Made me really nervous.

097_zpsd94d5632.jpg

We were planning to walk a little further downtown to try to find our next place on our to-do list, but it was just too cold & windy, so we found the nearest "Dot" transportation stop for the bus.

They have a "Connect the Dot" transportation system that provides FREE transportation around downtown!! There's specific signs posted for the bus to arrive and depart from (a few blocks apart).

This was perfect!!!

Kinda like a Disney bus, just not as pretty! :rotfl2:

098_zps5b004050.jpg

One place we wanted to visit was "The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist".
(free to tour, but they take donations for post cards, lighting of candles, books, etc)

There's some very interesting history of this place, that dates back to the 1700's. IT IS Beautiful!!! I just can't describe how amazing it was, and my pictures just don't do it justice, at all!

So beautiful! And when we got there, you can notice how the cloudy skies passed along and the beautiful sun and blue sky shined through! :littleangel:

As we entered, both of us were in awe, with jaws dropped and just amazed.

Can't say it enough, how gorgeous this place was!!!
I'm so glad we got to visit.

Walking around a bit more, making our way to our next "to-do" place.

And we did some more walking, heading back to find a close "Dot" pick up point. We wanted to get back to the hotel a little early to pack, etc. And the "Dot" transportation ended at either 7pm or 8pm
(can't remember, but we definitely didn't want to have to search for our parking garage in the dark, night-time!)

This college building was beautiful!

Passed by this beautiful horse as we headed toward the bus stop.

162_zps049335fc.jpg

Such a great end to our downtown visit!

I was really happy about our decision to go here, and try something different.
It is a beautiful place with a lot of history and I hope to get back there soon and see even more that we didn't have time for!!!

The next morning, we said good-bye to our Savannah hotel, and left the cloudy first half our trip behind, and said HELLO to the gorgeous sun!!

167_zpsc87c6ff8.jpg

Our next destination: Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort!!!! :beach:

You saw a lot of beautiful places, wow! I love all those trees with the moss, I think they're amazing. And that church, gorgeous! Very very cool walking tour. Too bad it was so cold though.
