Just got Back... Had a Fabulous time! We were
there 12 days, So if anyone has questions about
Ft. Wilderness, I'd be more than happy to help!
This website was such a wealth of info for us,
so I would like to pass on anything that might
help anyone else!!!

One question- did you feel it NECESSARY to rent a golf cart or was everything fine without renting one (if you didn't) ??

Just curious because we plan on camping there in the future -yet I really don't want the extra cost of the golf cart. We would rely on the bus system within FW but wondering if that's a real pain or not?

Nope a golf cart isn't necessary, but they sure are fun!

If you decide to rent one don't forget to reserve it way in advance ... up to one year ... as they are VERY popular!

Sure sounds like you had a blast!!:teeth:We will be @FW cabins 8/18.I've already put in my request for loop 2500-Hopefully we will get it.One question-how were the flies?Did you find anything that helped?I've heard horror stories and would prefer not to be food for them!!
Also ,were you close to the pool and laundry? How well-stocked were the camp stores? We planned on a grocery stop on the way from the airport but will probably either forget or "desperately"need something!!;)
Thanks,
Trish

Aw well, I doubt I'd reserve a year in advance anyway- so I guess the point is moot and we'd have to go without it regardless of what we "wanted". LOL
Thanks for replying. :)

We found that the carts were more of a nuisance than
a neccessity! We rented a 8 passenger van for $31.12
a day(carts are around $43.00 a day!) and we really
thought that was the way to go. The bus system is VERY
slow(especially the Purple route, which is for the cabin loops)
but you have to use it to get to the Trail's Buffet and the
Settlement Station(where everything is) and the beach
(also where you catch boat to MGK). We only used it for
that and not to get to the parks...you waste too much time
and energy changing and waiting for buses! Sometimes
we would park our van at the park that we would end up
at and take the monorail to the other park. The other
problem that we saw with the carts is that you cannot go
on the beautiful trails and sidewalks...which would be one
of the main reasons we would rent a cart!

About the bugs and flys...There WERE'NT ANY!!!
We couldn't believe it!! We sat out every morning and
evening on our deck and kept commenting about the
lack of bugs. I don't know what Disney is doing, but I
hope they keep doing it! We were going to ask someone
before we left, but forgot to!

Loop 2500 is by far the best loop, it is very close to the
pool, laundry, and bus! We really like our cabin(2511)
because the deck was so much bigger than every one
elses(Loop 2500 has ramps in addition to the same
size deck) and they have to situate the cabin with more
privacy. Loop 2600 seemed very crammed together and
dark. We had gorgeous morning sun and evening shade!

We will always go to Fort Wilderness Cabins. It was so
beautiful there and the cabins(with all of the space)
make the trip so much more enjoyable!

thanks so much for your helpful advice :)

so how was the noise factor?

did the cabin seem kinda small for a fam of four?
I'm going in Oct with Grumpy and two young children

hmmmm, trying to think of other questions:)

Thanks for the info about the carts. We wouldn't need to rent a van though because we'd have our vehicle with us- pulling the trailer! (we wouldn't leave it attached to the trailer the whole time). I only wondered about the carts and whether they were REALLY necessary for getting around inside FW (where you can't be driving around in a van LOL) like if the buses were a pain in the rear.
I ask that because I have only been there twice (inside FW- stayed at ASMu though) and it was unnervingly slow on the buses- especially when trying to leave FW. So I wondered if the bus system was that slow INSIDE FW also. I'd be with 3 kids and I'd lose my mind if I had to wait 45-hour for the bus everytime like I had to on that solo trip.
LOL

So glad that you had a great time! Can't believe we'll be there in less than two weeks :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Also glad to hear that there were no bugs!!! We're going equipped with repellent just in case:eek:

Did you go to the Campfire and movie at all?

We are going on 8/16/3 for a 7 night trip. We usually request the 2500 loop also, we like being near the laundry and pool. We went last year the week of 4th of July, and were suprised how nice the weather was. This will be our first trip in the month of August. We are hoping for nice weather and no bugs!

We would NOT take the buses to the parks...
First off if you are in the cabins, you have to wait for the
Purple route to take you to entrance(Outpost), then you have to change buses to take you the individual parks, then
when you return(we were always DEAD tired and it was late)
you get to do it all over again!
We did take the boat over to MGK one evening, but
there was a huge line coming home(it drops off at
Wilderness Lodge on the way back) and we had to
wait about 1 hr for the boat(not fun with 3 kids in tow)!!

The cabin I was in (2511) was extremely quiet...
2500-2505 might be kind of noisy, because it's
close to the pool and you would probably hear the
buses pulling out...

The first week we were there, it rained nonstop...
but we still kept up our schedule...
Actually, it was kind of nice, it was way cooler
and it kind of cleared out the "Fair Weather" people!

I still couldn't get over the NO BUGS! It was so wonderful
to walk everywhere and go to the MOVIE at nite at
not get eaten alive! The Movie was really cool, we saw
a movie(The Love Bug) that my kids have never seen,
and my DH and I hadn't seen in years!

As far as the size of the cabin...It is plenty big for 4
people...I think 6 would be stretching it! But I liked
the separate bedroom...the kids had never seen the
ORIGINAL Disney Cartoons and they run those
continously! Dh could go to bed and they would stay
up watching those, even though they played the
same 6 or so cartoons!

Feel free to ask anymore questions...I'm sure there's
alot of them out there!

For the people going soon....I'm SO...OOOO Jealous!!!
