Cast of Characters: Me: major Disney fan, grew up going to WDW, has visited a dozen times; DH: been to WDW twice, once for Grad night when we were in high school, other trip when we took a major vacation in January to celebrate his retirement from the Air Force and spent 17 days at WDW/Space Coast/Disney Wonder. DS: 11, had a great time on his first trip in January, and DD, 6, loves everything Disney.
Day 2: Park Faire, and Magic Kingdom
The next morning, I put the soiled sheet bundled on the bed with the stained side up, and left a note for the Housekeeper telling how we had discovered the sheet, and asked for all the bedding to be changed. I also left our usual tip.
We got up around 7am, and Hubbie was a bit grumpy because there wasn't any hot water when he tried to get a shower, hard to believe, but it was true. I told him to try running the shower for a while, but it didn't help. I decided to skip the attempt to shower and just washed up, hoping for a shower that night.
We dressed, and headed off to the Grand Floridian.
For some unknown reason, I've scheduled an earlyish character breakfast the first full day at WDW both times we've visited. Next time I swear we'll save it for later in the week, and sleep in! We decided to take the bus to Magic Kingdom, and then ride the resort monorail around to the GF.
We ran into a bit of trouble when we arrived at the resort, because we somehow completely missed the entrance to Park Faire and wandered around for ten minutes or so until we found someone to point us in the right direction. When we arrived we had to wait around 20 minutes, but it went by quickly because the Fairy Godmother was holding court in the reception area along with DD's favorite Pluto. She was delightful. When she discovered that DD already had her autograph in her book from our visit to Cinderella's Castle last January, she added a special kiss to the page.
We had a great breakfast. The server kept DH's orange juice glass filled (after I tipped her off he would guzzle OJ while he and DS were at the buffet,) and that helped smooth over his morning. While DD and I were getting our breakfast at the buffet, I turned and saw Alice (from Wonderland) visiting our table and quickly sent DD back to greet her. Alice was great. She spent quite a bit of time with us and with the family seated next to us. We also had visits from the Mad Hatter, Pinocchio, and Gepetto. DD had her little Pluto tucked in her fanny pack, and showed him off to all the characters. Park Faire Breakfast: Grade A
Once we had eaten our fill and visited with all the characters, we headed off to Magic Kingdom. It was very full of people. I knew everyone at DIS had recommended avoiding MK this weekend, but it's just not Disney to me until we've ridden the Pirates of Caribbean. It was pretty crowded. So off we headed to Adventureland. We rode the Pirates, and then got fastpasses for DD's favorite Splash Mountain. The standby line was 80 minutes. Oh my gosh, there were a million people packed into that area in front of Splash Mountain. After that, we milled around a little, and then grabbed some Dole Whips. Thanks so much to the DIS people who've mentioned these. Yum! Dole Whips: Grade A+
After our treat, we hopped onto the Jungle Cruise, waiting only 15 minutes or so in the standby line. Then we walked on to the Fastpass line at Splash Mountain. We got Fastpasses for Haunted Mansion, and then we worked our way through the crowds and sat at a table in FantasyLand and people watched for a little bit while we decided what to do next. We debated leaving and going to Epcot, but then we remembered we had Priority Seating booked for Tony's. We walked back, rode HM, and then headed back to Main Street. Our PS was booked for 6pm, but we decided to head over and see if we could get in around 5 instead. Tony's was packed, and we couldn't get in early. So we considered a trip round the park on the train, but settled for sitting on the front porch of Exposition Hall. We watched the flag retreat ceremony and then the tree lighting ceremony. It was great. I also wandered around the square with DD and showed her the heart in the sidewalk. She knew exactly who made it. ;-) We also sat at a table by the confectionary and played a game of checkers. Then it was time for Tony's. The meal was wonderful. Our only complaint was they served everything together. We had barely begun our appetizers when they delivered the dinner plates. We felt a bit rushed, although our waiter, Quincy, was great. There simply wasn't enough room on the table for all the plates. The food was very good, but we decided to skip dessert for the time being. Dinner at Tony's: grade A-
When we were finished, it was nearly time for the Electric Light Parade and the fireworks, but the kids wanted to go to Epcot and see HISTA. So I reluctantly left MK and we took the ferry to TTC, then the monorail over to Epcot. We walked right onto HISTA, and then walked back through the park and took the launch, and stopped at the Yacht Club/ Beach Club and had ice cream at Beaches and Cream. The servings there are HUGE! We went to the carry out window and ate at a table outside. Then we caught the launch back to the Swan. Beaches and Cream: grade A
Back in our room, still no rollaway, but the bedding had all been changed to fresh ones. The Soft Scrub cleanser still decorated the bath tiles. Oh well, that wasn't a major problem. We pretty much gave up on the rollaway at that point. The kids had compromised on sharing the bed, and we'd have tripped over it in the room. I was disappointed that Housekeeping didn't leave a note, either regarding the soiled sheet, or even just thanks for the tip. We always got a little card from the staff at the Poly. It would be a nice little touch for the Swan staff to add. Grade for Housekeeping, day 2: B-
