End of August thoughts?

We're used to going during HHNs, but our trip might get bumped up this year to just before Labor day weekend. How will it be during that time - crowded, too hot? Any special events going on we shouldn't miss? The new trip will be during the week - Wednesday and Thursday, so I'm a nervous that it's not going to be worth it.

We are going the 24 to 31 and I've been told that we should expect:

1) Much lower crowds as opposed to the earlier-middle part of the summer, as local schools will be back in session.
2) Extreme heat/humidity
3) Daily rain

OP, you'll have a great time and no large crowds to deal with.
Weekdays are better than weekend days.

We have been in mid to late August. I don't recall anything special going on that time. Yes, it is still HOT but if you are staying onsite you can always get to the parks early and take a midday pool break and head back in the afternoon. The crowds are not unbearable but it is still busy. I would definitely get an express pass.
