Walt Disney Co.'s ABC TV network has made "preliminary'' contact with AOL Time Warner Inc.'s CNN about forming a possible alliance, Reuters said, citing an unidentified ABC source. The two networks haven't discussed the nature of the potential alliance and ABC has only expressed interest in talking about the idea, Reuters said.
ABC and Viacom Inc.'s CBS network have both had talks in the past with CNN that broke down over the issue of control, Reuters said. CNN is looking for ways to boost ratings while ABC and CBS want to lower costs, it added. ABC placed "a preliminary call to CNN to say that if you're talking to CBS, we want you to talk to us also,'' Reuters quoted the source as saying.
