Cabana Bay room location

Are the tower rooms like preferred rooms at Disney. Closer to transportation and the food court or mixed throughout the resort? My husband hates long walks at resorts and I want a location that will make him happy

I believe if you book a "tower" room, you are assigned a room in either one of the new towers next to Volcano Bay or in either the Americana or Continental Buildings. These rooms have interior hallways and room entrances. If you book a "courtyard" room, you are in either the Starlight, Thunderbird or Castaway Buildings. These rooms have exterior hallways and entrances (similar to a Disney Moderate resort).

There doesn't appear to be an ability to pay for and be guaranteed a preferred location like Disney - you would have to put it in your room requests and hope for the best.

Each building has its pros and cons.

Here is a resort map so you can see the location of things:

We like the towers for three reasons. They are close to our preferred pool. Closest to the buses to get to the theme parks. And closest to the Bayliner Diner.

Last trip, we were assigned a room at the very end of the hallway. That was not the most fun. At least it is an air conditioned walk, but more miles added onto my vacation. Feet were dragging down the hallway after day 5.

basically Towers can refer to any building in the Tower courtyard (lazy river side of the hotel)

buildings include Continental, Americana, Bayside and Beachside (the last 2 not being displayed on the map above, but they're at the end of Americana and Continental buildings)

The assumption that rooms there are closer to transportation and food court may not always be true
if you're at the far end of the tower buildings, you'll be farther away from the food court and possibly transportation, than if you were at the far end of the courtyard buildings

but, on average, a tower room could limit the amount of walking.

there is no way to guarantee a room that's close to transportation and food court.

you still can contact the resort and make requests, which cannot be guaranteed, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Americana is considered buildings number 5 and 6 (first number in your room number, 5 is closest to the main hall and transportation)
Floor is the second number 1 through 7 (seven floors)
Room number starts at 00 and goes up the further you get away from the dining hall

So to be closest to the transportation, you'd want a room similar to 5100. Try to request room numbers with that kind of description or number to get you "closer"

Thank you all for your responses. We decided to go with the tower family suite. We really do not care about the views but felt more space would work for us. Our boys will be 26 and 15 on the trip and they do not sleep well together.

FYI- I discovered that it was far more pleasant to take the closest elevator down to ground level and walk along the pool than walking the endless corridors. We were way down the end. Enjoyed our family suite.
