Walt Disney World

A little background information about this trip. When I first started planning this trip it didn't look anything like what it turned out to be. My boyfriend and I were going to go to Disney World with friends who have never been. We were planning with them and then found out my boyfriend's company holiday party was to be Saturday December 9th. This proved a little difficult, because at this point our friends had said they couldn't take off work like we originally planned and they could only go on the weekend. So then we changed things around to meet them on Sunday and we'd stay for the rest of the week. Then they decided it was too much money and they didn't want to go anymore. Since they weren't going anymore I decided a cruise sounded more fun and we booked a 4 night cruise. Then we found out my boyfriend's company party was moved to the following Saturday because Hurricane Irma destroyed the location of the first venue. I was a little annoyed we found out about this just after I booked, because we could have done a 7 night instead. I prefer the longer cruises. Since his party was moved we decided to spend the weekend at Disney before the cruise to make it feel like a longer vacation.

We dropped my cat Remmi off to be boarded (she was not a happy kitty) and then we were off. We live in South Florida, so it took us about three hours to get to Disney World. Also, since I'm from South Florida, I find cold weather to be anything below 70. Well, a cold front had moved through and it was in the 40/50s during the day and I was not prepared. Since I was sick I wanted to make sure I stayed warm, but that proved to be very difficult.

I love the welcome sign letting you know you're now in Disney. For this trip we were staying at the Copper Creek Villas at Wilderness Lodge. It would be a first for both of us and I was excited to see the place decorated for Christmas.

upload_2017-12-19_8-19-30.png

I really loved this hotel. If you've never been, I recommend going during the Christmas season to see all the decorations. It was all so beautiful.

We were staying on the DVC (Disney Vacation Club) side instead of the hotel side. We aren't members and were staying on cash. The biggest reason I love the one-bedroom villas is that they come with a king sized bed. I love my space when sleeping and it seems impossible for me to get assigned a king bed when staying at their normal hotel rooms.

upload_2017-12-19_8-22-14.png

These rooms were modified from existing hotel rooms within Wilderness Lodge, so the space is a little limited. I'm not sure I'm a fan of the hardwood floors instead of carpet, but overall I really liked this room.

upload_2017-12-19_8-23-23.png

There's a large decorative piece of wood behind the bed.

upload_2017-12-19_8-23-59.png

In the bathroom they had a large soaking tub along with a separate shower. I think I forgot to take a picture of the shower, but it was really nice and had good water pressure.

upload_2017-12-19_8-25-15.png

upload_2017-12-19_8-25-40.png

It was a little dark in here, but we didn't actually use this space this trip. I don't normally cook on vacations, but in the past we've used the fridge to keep our water cold and if we have leftovers from dinner the night before.

upload_2017-12-19_8-27-3.png

The table looks like it would seat six, but I thought it took a little small and with six people would feel really cramped.

upload_2017-12-19_8-27-49.png

The star of this hotel during the holiday season is their Christmas tree. This is a view from the 5th floor and I believe the tree goes almost all the way to the 7th floor. The whole lobby is impressive when you walk in the door and no picture can truly do it justice.

upload_2017-12-19_8-29-17.png

Inside the lobby there is a bridge that goes over a little stream.

Up next...Our lunch at the quick service Roaring Forks and off to Magic Kingdom

Except for the sick part , sounds like a great trip. Congratulations! And looking forward to reading about your adventures

Great report so far. Congratulations on your engagement! Love the pics of Copper Creek. We stayed there for a quick 2 nights in late Aug and can't wait to go back, The remodel is amazing. It's our new favorite resort. I would love to go during the holidays. It must have been beautiful.

We had a 2bdrm dedicated which looks exactly like your 1bdrm but with another bedroom with 2 queens. We liked the king bed too. We're DVC members but not at CCV. Membership could go a long way if you ever do decide to join when larger rooms are a preference. Then we can say "welcome home" :)

So sorry you were sick but it sounds like you had a great trip. Look forward to reading more.

Thank you! I loved Copper Creek too, I know we'll stay there again in the future. The holiday decorations really make this place something special, I highly recommend it. And the weather is a lot nicer in December than August. We looked into buying DVC, spent three hours at their tour talking with someone. I just don't think it will work for us. We don't plan trips a year in advance so it would be hard to book what we want I think.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

I had made fast passes to start at 1:30pm for this day, but while we were driving I felt like that didn't give us enough time, so I moved our first one to be last and that way we had time to relax.

upload_2017-12-21_8-20-17.png

upload_2017-12-21_8-20-42.png

I really liked this bridge that's inside the hotel. It goes over the mini river and you can look out at the lobby from the middle. A lot of people wanted to walk over it so it was hard getting a picture with no one on it.

We hadn't eaten yet so we headed over to the quick service inside the hotel for some lunch.

upload_2017-12-21_8-22-33.png

This place kicked off our series of unfortunate events for the day.

The place was nicely located, inside away from the freezing outdoors. They serve breakfast in the morning and then a lunch/dinner menu the rest of the day.

upload_2017-12-21_8-24-56.png

I thought their chicken flat bread sounded good and we decided to eat them there. They gave us a number to put on our table and said the food should be out shortly.

upload_2017-12-21_8-25-54.png

The room next to where you order your food in my opinion is too small. When we walked in the place was packed and we lucked into a table because a family was leaving. The only other seating they have is outside, which wasn't an option with the cold temperatures.

So we sat and waited for our food. And waited. And waited. It was about twenty minutes before they came out with the food.

upload_2017-12-21_8-28-13.png

My boyfriend got a tuna sandwich and my flat bread looked weird. I asked the lady if it was the chicken flat bread and she said yes. I said it didn't look anything like chicken. It had pepperoni and sausage and what looked like goat cheese. Mine was supposed to have peppers and Asiago cheese. I listed out what mine was supposed to come with and how I didn't see any of those items. The lady seemed really annoyed and finally agreed they gave me the wrong flat bread. She said in a couple minutes mine would be brought out.

I told my boyfriend to eat his sandwich, I didn't want to hold him up and mine should be out soon. He felt bad since he eats really fast and I eat slow, but I knew he was hungry. Then almost half an hour went by before my flat bread was brought out. I tried to stay in an optimistic happy mood, but my boyfriend was really upset how the lady had treated me and tried to tell me I was wrong.

upload_2017-12-21_8-32-20.png

On the plus side the flat bread tasted really good. It was nice and hot, which felt great on my sore throat. I tried eating quickly since our next fast pass window was about to start since lunch had taken so long. We decided to go on the boat to Magic Kingdom since we've never taken one from there before. I didn't take any pictures while we waited because I was absolutely freezing! The wind coming off the lake was so cold I thought I was going to become a Popsicle. I was trying really hard to stay warm, I figured I would get sicker if I got too cold.

The boat arrived about ten minutes later and we got a nice warm spot inside. The boat was packed inside since no one wanted to be on the outside in the cold. In front of us was a family and the mom was dressed in the most adorable Christmas inspired outfit ever. I would have taken a picture if that wouldn't have been weird lol. It was fun people watching and seeing all the cute outfits. Every other time we've gone to Disney it's been ridiculously hot so this was a nice change.

We got inside Magic Kingdom pretty quickly after docking. That was when we noticed our Space Mountain fast pass had been turned into an anytime fast pass because the ride was down. I have never experienced so many ride closures before this trip ever.

My great idea lead to the next unfortunate event. I know when Space Mountain is closed they turn the lights on. I thought we could go on the People Mover and see Space Mountain with the lights on. The line was really long (the park was really crowded) and the guy holding the stick to let people know the line started there said the wait would be about twenty minutes. It moved pretty quick and we got on smoothly. Then as we went over the car track the ride broke. I've only been on a ride once before where it before and that was over ten years ago. And the ride couldn't have stopped in a worse location. The spot we were in created a wind tunnel effect and it was freezing cold. I blame this for still being sick.

upload_2017-12-21_8-42-38.png

A message came on saying the ride would be starting back up which was great! We moved about three feet and it stopped again.

upload_2017-12-21_8-43-40.png

Our new view. And these girls behind us were driving me crazy. They kept shouting to people below to wave at them and no one would so they kept doing it the entire time we were stuck.

upload_2017-12-21_8-44-53.png

Can you feel the cold from this picture? I've reached my picture limit so this will be continued in the next post.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

upload_2017-12-21_8-46-58.png

Had to do some snapchat updating while we waited. Then finally the announcement changed from the ride might start at any time to people remain seated a cast member would be coming to escort us off the ride. What drove my boyfriend crazy was they helped the people off the ride who were inside Space Mountain first instead of the people freezing outside. They also didn't check to see if people were okay, and I saw one elderly lady who looked like she needed a hot blanket. I'm not sure what they did with people who couldn't walk well. They had us walk on a narrow path and told us that the middle strip between the tracks was fake and if you stepped on it you would fall through. They had us step on a metal box in the middle and then cross over towards these stairs to go down. We were given one paper fast pass for our troubles.

Our next fast pass was for the Seven Dwarfs ride, which we almost missed from being stuck. So we go on and actually get front row which was great. Especially since the standby wait for this ride was almost three hours. It had been broken earlier in the day on top of about five other rides that had broken down, the fast pass system was going haywire. The line had been almost to Be Our Guest and it didn't seem like they were even letting people in stand by in.

We used our anytime from the broken Space Mountain on the Haunted Mansion and decided to use the paper fast pass on Space Mountain the next day. The wait for this was 50 minutes so I think it was a good choice. And it was inside which was even better.

Our next fast pass was for the Jingle Cruise. I love this ride and have never been on the holiday overlay before, so this was a must.

upload_2017-12-21_9-0-17.png

They put Christmas decorations all over the ride and their corny jokes are holiday themed. This ride was packed too, so I was happy to have a fast pass.

There were so many people! We were in the parks on Thanksgiving and I didn't feel like it was this crowded. The beginning of December is definitely not the slow time anymore.

After this ride we decided to head out of the park. We have annual passes and it makes it easier to just pop in for a few hours and not feel like the day was completely wasted. We had dinner reservation at Morimoto Asia in Disney Springs and decided to use an Uber to get there. We walked over to the Contemporary to get one, if you want one from Magic Kingdom they can only pick up at the TTC. We requested the driver as we walked over. I don't think we'll ever use the Minnie Vans instead of Uber. Those are a $20 flat rate and the Uber ride cost $7 to get to Disney Springs.

Originally we had had Artist Pointe for dinner at our hotel. We changed it the last minute to Morimoto because of the great dinner we had had there before. I had gotten pad Thai and it was delicious. I couldn't wait to have it again. Then we get to the restaurant and are informed the Pad Thai was taken off the menu a week before. It still shows on the online website.

Needless to say, I was not happy. It was the only reason we were back and I had no idea what to get now. We checked on the Disney App and Opentable if there was another Disney Springs restaurant available, but nothing was so we had to stay.

upload_2017-12-21_9-9-1.png

I ordered the miso soup to help with my cold. I love miso soup and this did not disappoint. I was coughing a lot and felt the hot soup would do my throat good.

For my main meal I had no idea what to get. I ended up getting teriyaki chicken bao buns. I think it came with dark meat, which I don't normally like, but I enjoyed these. It also had spicy mayo which I wasn't sure would mix well with the teriyaki sauce, but it did. It was on the dim sum menu and wasn't a lot of food, but I wasn't that hungry.

upload_2017-12-21_9-11-7.png

My boyfriend went with what he had had last time, the orange chicken.

upload_2017-12-21_9-12-56.png

He enjoyed this a lot. He had wanted to eat with chop sticks, but the pieces of chicken were huge so he had to cut them with a fork and knife. I tried a bite and it tasted good.

I didn't take a lot of pictures there, probably because I was feeling a little sour over my favorite dish being gone. Unless it comes back, I don't foresee us going here in the future.

The weather was even colder since it was dark out and I was feeling a lot worse (colds always seem to be worse at night) so we opted to take an Uber back to the hotel instead of the bus. This proved a little complicated as our Uber driver went to the complete opposite side to get us. We explained where we were and he drove past us twice before stopping to get us. He was very chatty and said he'd love to see the inside of Wilderness Lodge. So when he dropped us off he turned off his Uber thing and went inside too.

upload_2017-12-21_9-16-2.png

This Christmas tree is amazing, I love how it's almost seven stories high. We stopped off in Roaring Forks to get some Hot Chocolate and headed up to our room. We caught the end of Mary Poppins on the TV and I knocked out with some nightime robitussin.

Up next: Our day at Epcot and dinner at Ohana

Ugh, that sucks for your first day! I hope the rest turns out better!

Hilarious! But I love it!

Yes it was a rough start to the vacation, but it definitely got a lot better. The Uber driver was pretty funny and it makes sense if he wants to see the hotel this is probably the easiest way for him to do it.

Enjoying your trip report so far!
Thank you for reading along :)

Definitely a rough start! Congratulations on your engagement and great pictures too :). I heard it had been freezing this week :(

When I woke up the next morning I was not feeling so great. My throat hurt and I was coughing a lot. I checked the weather app and I did not want to leave the bed.

upload_2017-12-26_7-54-40.png

Do you see that? It says feels like 37 degrees. I get cold in the 70s when I'm not sick. We decided to move our first fast pass at Epcot to the end so I could stay in bed a little longer.

When I started getting hungry my boyfriend, being the most awesome man that he is, went to Roaring Forks to bring me back some breakfast. We didn't have too high of hopes for this place after yesterday, but it was the easiest thing to get. I wasn't really excited about the menu either. I prefer breakfast sandwiches and they didn't have any, so I got the breakfast platter.

upload_2017-12-26_7-56-21.png

It normally comes with bacon and sausage, but I got mine with double bacon. My boyfriend told me that it was sitting in the window a really long time and he noticed it said double bacon on the side and had to go get someone to actually bring him the food.

The breakfast platter also has scrambled eggs, hash-browns and a biscuit. It was okay, nothing amazing and I wouldn't get it again.

upload_2017-12-26_7-58-49.png

My boyfriend got the kids Mickey Waffles. They came with apple slices, but I didn't take a picture. He enjoyed these, but it's hard to screw up waffles.

Today we were going to Epcot for half a day and we were going to take the bus to get there. If we were going to any other park or Disney Springs it would have taken almost no time at all to get there. We saw three buses come for each place while we waited for the Epcot bus. At first they didn't even have a time on the board and we were considering getting on the Hollywood Studios bus.

upload_2017-12-26_8-0-53.png

At least it was a gorgeous day outside. Still very cold, but it was amazing out. The picture above is is the view across from where you wait for the buses.

Normally I take a lot of pictures, but I wasn't feeling good so I only took two pictures while we were in Epcot.

We actually were outside our fast pass window for Finding Nemo because of the bus delay, but they give you 15 minutes after the window so there wasn't any issue getting in line. I'm normally very punctual and this was my first time actually testing out that 15 minute after rule.

upload_2017-12-26_8-3-31.png

After the ride we looked at some fishies. There was a turtle really close to the glass, but he swam out of sight before I could snap a picture.

We rode Soarin' next. If you've never been on this ride you need to. It's one of my favorite at Epcot, we almost always go for a fast pass here. They recently changed it from Soarin' over California to Soarin' around the world. I recommend you sit in section B, which is in the middle. The two side sections have a bit of distortion to the screen. We normally will ask to wait for B, but since I wasn't feeling good we just took what they gave us. Ended up working out great though. We were in section A, but the very end towards B so we were in the middle of the room and in the front row.

After went went into the World Showcase to look at the countries. During the holidays they have story tellers out in each country talking about how they celebrate Christmas. We watched the one in Norway, which was pretty funny. I think my boyfriend was a little bored so we didn't watch any others.

We ate at the China quick service for lunch. I originally wanted to try a holiday booth, but my head was really congested and I was coughing a lot and didn't want to wander all over the park looking for something I'd like. I've eaten here before and knew I liked something on the menu (which thankfully was still on the menu).

upload_2017-12-26_8-10-15.png

We both got the spicy beef with noodles. I really like this dish, it has a lot of flavor and I felt like the spice would help my throat. The one downside I think there is to quick service is finding a table. The seating is limited and this day was very crowded. I found us a seat while my boyfriend ordered the food.

After we road Spaceship earth and then headed for the monorail. The one to the TTC wasn't that crowded, but the one to get to Magic Kingdom was insane. The line for both the express and resorts was all the way down the ramp and I think there might have been an issue with the express because it wasn't moving.

I'd never gone on the ferry before so we decided to do that. It was really fun, but was probably a terrible choice since I was so sick. We got a spot right in front where they unload for Magic Kingdom. It was so windy and cold it probably contributed to me staying sick for so long.

upload_2017-12-26_8-14-56.png

upload_2017-12-26_8-15-16.png

I got a picture of the monorail going by the castle.

upload_2017-12-26_8-15-43.png

I don't know if it's just me, but I always feel like the air looks crisper when it's cold out.

We were going to Magic Kingdom to use the paper fast pass we got the day before. Our plan was to use it on Space Mountain and pick up a 4th fast pass. At first there was only it's a small world available, but after refreshing a million times I was able to get us Big Thunder Mountain. So we rode Space Mountain then that. While we were in line I was able to pick up fast passes for Seven Dwarfs. This was awesome since it had a 2 hour wait and was the last possible fast pass of the day with the park closing at 6pm for the Christmas Party.

While we were on Seven Dwarfs the road broke. We were having some terrible luck with this. I don't think my boyfriend had ever been on a ride that broke and I haven't been on one in over ten years. The ride stopped while we were heading towards that opening that faces the Beast's castle. It was an awkward position to get stuck in since it was at such a steep angle it was tough on the neck. Luckily it was for only about five minutes and it started up again.

The people in front of us complained when we got off and asked to ride again. I think they had to go back in the fast pass line, which was now all the way to the Beast's castle. We decided to just leave since we had dinner reservations to get to for Ohana.

I was really excited about this dinner since the first time we went it was amazing. The last time we had a weird 4pm dinner since that was all I could get. This time we had dinner at 6:40pm. We took the resort monorail to get there. There was a really long line and we waited a couple times before we could actually get on. But there was no way I could handle another cold boat ride anywhere.

upload_2017-12-26_8-29-14.png

The hotel was really prettily decorated for Christmas.

I've reached my picture limit so I'll continue in the next post.

Ohana Dinner

When we got to the restaurant I was fully prepared to wait a long time to be seated. I have read about how they get really far behind on reservations and it was so crowded this weekend I figured it had to be running behind. I was pleasantly surprised when they seated us almost immediately. We got a great table by the window and they welcomed us back since they saw we had dined there before.

I love this restaurant. It's served family style, so they bring out all the food on big flatters to share, along with meat on skewers they give you. It's called all you care to eat and you can stay until you can literally eat no more.

We started off the meal with some ‘Ohana Pineapple-Coconut Bread.

upload_2017-12-26_8-31-56.png

Sorry for the blurry picture.

Next they brought the Mixed Greens Salad with a Lilikoi dressing.

upload_2017-12-26_8-33-40.png

This salad is really flavorful and comes with a lot of different ingredients. The last time I had eaten here I got so full I felt I needed to be rolled out, so I was trying to pace myself a little better this time.

upload_2017-12-26_8-34-38.png

I was a little loopy at dinner from the medicine I was on and how sick I was feeling. So I apologize for another blurry picture. They provide these sauces to be used for the meats they bring around on skewers. I absolutely love the peanut sauce (on the right) and put it all over my salad.

Up next they brought out a platter of food. This includes Pork Dumplings tossed in Garlic-Ginger Sauce, Honey-Coriander Chicken Wings, Stir-fried Vegetables and my favorite part the Noodles tossed in a Teriyaki Sauce.

upload_2017-12-26_8-38-5.png

We didn't want to get too full so we avoided the vegetables. :duck:

I did a bad job taking pictures of the skewers they brought out. They have shrimp, but you have to peel the shell off and I'm not a big fan of working for my food. I did have a couple that my boyfriend peeled for me. There was also chicken that was pretty good and steak. Normally the steak comes out medium or medium rare. I prefer my steak a little more cooked than that and they were happy to bring out my own.

upload_2017-12-26_8-40-26.png

Here's a picture of my boyfriend's plate filled with steak. They came by pretty frequently asking if we wanted more of anything.

My favorite part of this meal has to be the noodles. I like ordering a section plate of just noodles for two reasons. One, they are delicious and I can eat almost a full plate just myself. And two, the platter I think is prepared ahead of time and sits under heat lamps waiting for a table. When I order the noodles they have to prepare them fresh for me and they always come out hot and delicious.

upload_2017-12-26_8-42-15.png

I went to the bathroom multiple times throughout the meal to blow my nose and every time I came back our waiter would ask if I wanted anything else. I also heard a lovely story of a mother saying her son might have strep throat while I was in the bathroom. I decided to not go back after that.

Finally it was time for dessert. The dessert here is one of my all time favorites. It's ‘Ohana Bread Pudding topped with caramel sauce and bananas. I'm not even that big a fan of bananas and I love this.

upload_2017-12-26_8-44-55.png

It also came with delicious vanilla ice cream. I love ice cream, it's one of my weaknesses. So I asked for a little extra on the side. Probably not the smartest idea with being sick, but it was delicious.

After dinner we were trying to figure out how we'd get back home. If we took Disney transportation we'd need to take the monorail to Magic Kingdom and then boat or bus back to Wilderness Lodge. Depending on how crowded the waits could be really high and we could be looking at an hour and a half of travel time to get back. Normally I wouldn't really care, but I was feeling particularly horrible and just wanted to crawl into bed. So we decided to Uber back. It was nice and easy, took about five minutes to get back.

Before heading up to the room I wanted to take some pictures of the incredible lobby.

upload_2017-12-26_8-49-55.png

This fireplace was incredible. It went all the way up to the roof and had a roaring fire going. They had a couple rows of chairs in front of it that were all full.

upload_2017-12-26_8-50-47.png

upload_2017-12-26_8-51-9.png

Here's a view from our 5th floor. The attention to detail in this place is incredible.

Once again reached my picture limit. I only have a couple more before we leave for the cruise so I'll finish that up quickly in the next post.
