20 years later we still said "I do!" Our TR for our VR on 4-13-2011 (updated 5/17/11)

Awe Joanne you are too sweet! Thank you!!

Manning - you never know, those squirrels could be related! I couldn't believe the little guy just sneak up grab a fry and then just eat it in front of us. Most squirrels I've come in contact with have stolen food and ran away with their treasure! :rotfl:

Day 6 continued

After the parade at Hollywood Studios, we decided to head back to the Boardwalk. We grabbed burgers & fries from the little kiosk on the Boardwalk and met up with our French fry squirrel. Yes, he came out again! Then we decided to go to Epcot to see Illuminations.

We walked around a little, took some pictures and grabbed something to drink then started looking for a good spot to see Illuminations. We didn’t want to go up front like we usually do, so we decided to try something different and stayed in Morocco to view the show. It was awesome! I took a few photos but I was more interested in watching the show. After the show we took our time and headed for the boat back to the Boardwalk and ended up watching a couple of the street performers.

Day 7:
Animal Kingdom day! We got up early to make it to AK so that we didn’t have much of a wait for the Safari ride. This is my #1 ride in AK! The animals were in abundance this morning! We saw Rhinos (a few kept following us), elephants, giraffes, an okapi (which I have never been able to take a picture of), pink flamingos, antelope, Thomson’s gazelle, and even an ostrich (and her eggs) just to name a few animals.

Picture035-1.jpg

We then went on the Pangani Forest Trail. That was pretty cool and entertaining. One of the gorillas decided to entertain the crowd by taking it’s bowl and carrying it on it’s back. After the Trail we wound up taking the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. We had never been to Rafiki’s and it was interesting. Even got to touch a 7-month-old alligator (or was it crocodile?) and we saw Rafiki too!

Then it was back on the train and the search for food was the game plan. I decided we needed to try Flame Tree BBQ and I got the thumbs up from the hubby. We both got the Pork Sandwich which is served with baked beans, and we ordered a basket of onion rings and of course you can’t have BBQ without coleslaw! Everything was yummy and we were stuffed!

Picture124.jpg

After lunch we headed over to Dinoland and Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama. I had fun playing the games and ended up with a few stuffed animals (a small & large turtle and a medium snake). After taking a few dozen pictures we decided it was time to head back to Boardwalk since we were tired and it was getting hot.

Day 8:

Our last full day at WDW! :sad2:

We had reservations for 1900 Park Faire for breakfast this morning. Food was great and the characters were hilarious! I was so busy eating and laughing I totally forgot about my camera! Won’t happen again – next trip! We then headed over to Epcot to see about meeting Tinker Bell – well the line was extremely long so I gave up. I took a bunch more pictures (I think I took a total of 750 pictures this trip). We did the Canada tour – it is one of my favorite spots in Epcot.

From Epcot, we decided to take the monorail over to MK. Once at MK we had our hot dog fix at Casey’s and then of course had to have a Dole Whip. Then we waited for almost two hours to see the characters from Tangled. I think we were the only adults (not including the parents) that stood in line waiting! Finally Fin & Rapunzel came out!!! Fin was just adorable and Rapunzel was very pretty. Both were so sweet. After they did their song & dance with the kids, everyone stood in line to get photos & autographs. Hubby stayed to the side (since he was on his scooter and minus the leg) while I stood in line with about 20+ kids & parents. When it was my turn they greeted me and noticed my anniversary pin and asked where the “Mr was”. I motioned that he was waiting on the side because of his scooter, so they escorted me over to him so they could meet him and we could all take a picture. They were just too sweet and they have now become my favorite Disney couple! (Sorry Cinderella!)

and my favorite: (I love Fin's expression!)

We were going to wait for Wishes and the Electrical Parade, but after Fin & Rapunzel – I was happy, plus I could see hubby was tired – it was a long day and we were leaving the next day and I had to finish packing.

Day 9:

Leaving for home

We left roughly around 10:00 AM and drove and drove and drove. We stopped here and there, and then when it was starting to get dark we decided we would stop and spend the night. We were in NC by this time. Little did we know that a tornado (actually a few tornados) came through NC the night before! We noticed all this debis off on the side of the road and then our friends who had been at our rewedding called us and told us about the tornado the night before (they had missed the one that hit Raleigh!!) We tried to spend the night in Smithfield but all the hotels were booked because Dunn, NC, (which was the next town over) had gotten hit pretty bad. So we drove up to Rocky Mount, NC, and found a Marriott which had two rooms available. We booked one and spent the night. The next morning, while having breakfast we heard on the news that Raleigh had gotten hit hard. Very sad! We arrived home safe and sound and got our furbabies (who were extremely happy to see their mommy & daddy.

Now I’m planning our trip for October 2011 – hopefully!

next up Vendor Reviews, Wish I did/Wish I didn't, and our budget...

Vendor Review:

Wedding Planner: (A) – We had Tanis Armstrong as our DFTW planner. Tanis was great – sometimes a bit slow in getting back – but I think that is more because we (bride or “re-bride”) we want answers immediately and unfortunately that doesn’t always happen if you are not speaking directly (i.e. on the phone or in person) with the person. KWIM? Anyway, the day of our VR Tanis was there and had everything in place. She made sure everything was in place and we didn’t have to worry about anything. So much different than our original wedding 20 years ago! Steve & I had planned everything (with no help) and we really didn’t enjoy our wedding because we were sick (both of us had the flu) and we were worrying about making sure everything went smoothly (and most of the time it did).

Update: I am tempted to change the grade to a “B” only because I have tried to call & email Tanis in the past week to see about the website with our photos. I left a phone message and sent an email. I got an automatic response via email stating she was out of the office due to weddings that week. However, she has never returned my call or sent an email. Personally I think that is bad business – we spent a lot of money at Disney for our VR, I would think a follow-up call to a former client would be in order. Instead it makes me feel ‘got your money – don’t care if you are happy or not now’.

Floral: (A) – Rosie did a fantastic job with my bouquet! I absolutely loved it and the hidden Mickey too! There was even a hidden Mickey on Steve’s boutonniere! So cute – we loved it! And our cake – wow! It was beautiful and so delicious. We had a marble cake with butter-cream icing. It was really moist and delicious and there was a ton of cake left over since there were only six of us. We ended up giving the cake to our friends (they were going to visit family the day after our VR.)

Update: regarding the website with our photos – after getting the automatic message from Tanis I emailed Rosie and asked if she could help. After 3 days I finally got a response saying only “there has been a delay”. Not quite the response I was hoping for!

Beaute Speciale: (A) – Jackie arrived on time (although she called and said she was running a bit late). It didn’t matter because she did a wonderful job on my hair and make up. I have baby fine straight hair that usually never holds a curl and Jackie not only gave me curls but made me feel like a princess! I didn’t have a trial session with Beaute Speciale so I brought a few photos of what I would like my hair to look like and Jackie did an excellent job! My make up was perfect after we toned down the eyeliner a bit. I’m not used to wearing eyeliner so it looked very heavy to me at first, but after it was toned down it looked great and Steve was very happy with it (especially since he was paying for all of it!) Jackie had a great personality too – very easy to talk to – made our 2 hours just fly by.

Photographer: (A) – We went with Disney Photography. I had requested Amy, Regina, or Mike Strickland because of all the great things I had seen and heard about them. Well – I didn’t get either of them. Tanis said that Amy was on vacation, Regina was getting married and Mike was her photographer – go figure! So we got Stephanie. Stephanie was a doll to work with. Steve has crutches (due to his artificial leg that he’s only had since November) and Stephanie managed to pose us in ways that you couldn’t tell. I can’t wait to see the actual photos!!

Update: The photos online have arrived! I would give it B – only because for $750 I expected a lot more photos to be taken (hubby counted 157 and some are duplicates but in black & white). Online the photos look awesome – but I will wait to see the photo album and the DVD and the 11x14 before I give the photos a final grade.

Rev. Jack Day: (A) – Rev. Day is the sweetest guy I’ve met. Tanis said he’s like everyone’s grandpa! He talked with us for a bit and made us feel very comfortable. I’m so happy that he was able to perform our ceremony. I sent him basically what I wanted and he said it was just perfect and didn’t change a bit. It was a beautiful ceremony if I do say so myself! 

Musicians: (A) – The organist and the violinist were fantastic! The violinist came with us to the Cake Celebration and Robert (if I remember his name correctly) was awesome! He can play just about ANYTHING (Disney and beyond Disney). If he can’t remember a song – he’ll look it up and he’ll play it. He really entertained our guests and us! Oh and the sound system at the WP is awesome! They played our CD and it sounded just so good in there!

Limo Service: (A) – Victor was our driver and he was great. The Limo was part of our Escape package (which we had for 4 hours).

Wish I did/Wish I didn’t:

Venue: As much as I loved our VR at the Wedding Pavilion, I think if I had known that we would have a total of 6 people (which included us) I think I would have gone with the Memories Collection or perhaps stick with the Escape Collection but had our ceremony at the Boardwalk or at the Yacht Club or perhaps at Sunset Pointe at the Polynesian; the reason being…to make it more intimate.

Welcome Bags: I probably would not have gone overboard in putting the Welcome bags together. The bags were FULL! I had bought stuff through the months of planning and had anticipated have almost 20 people, so our four guests that did come reaped the benefit by having very full welcome bags. :)

Bouquet: I loved my bouquet but it was heavy. I wish I had gone with my first choice the Island bouquet; (even though Steve wasn’t crazy about that one.) I think the Island bouquet would not have “melted” into my dress – to clarify – in some of the photos you couldn’t tell where the bouquet ended and my dress began. LOL

Shoes: I wish I had a backup plan regarding shoes! I loved the shoes I purchased for the VR but I did not anticipate my feet swelling and so my shoes were killing my feet! As soon as the ceremony and pictures were done – I swapped them for my croc flip flops. I really wished I had a backup pair of shoes.

Photography: Now that I think back I wish we had chosen an outside photographer. I say this now because I have had time to think and I would have been able to talk to the photographer about certain shots I wanted BEFORE the event. Never once did Disney Photography contact us about what shots we may have wanted, nor was a list requested from us. So if I didn’t think of it that day – we didn’t get the photo – we basically went with whatever our photographer suggested. I do like the shots Stephanie took but as I think back now there are other shots I wish she would have taken.

That’s about all I can think of in the “Wish I did/Wish I didn’t” department!

Michelle sweetie - OMG I have just finished looking at your beautiful photos!!! I understand how you were a little upset by the quantity of the photos, but IMHO they are stunning!!! You both look so happy!!! I completely disagree about the flowers!! I think the way they seem to melt in to your dress is really lovely and adds a certain something to your pictures. I am glad that you didn't choose the 'Island Bouquet'. I am not a fan of it (like your Steve). I think your flowers were stunning!! I agree about the weight though!! My bouquet was similar to yours in shape and was extremely heavy!! I loved it though.
I am sorry you have some regrets about the WP. I must admit that when I was considering a DFTW, I would have loved to use the WP, but always thought that small parties would look a little lost in it!!! It really is so pretty though!!
I am so sorry that your TR is over, (not boring at all) but keep in touch sweetie, and I hope you will contunue to follow my mad ramblings as I continue my TR.
Much love sweetie, and know that you were a beautiful VR bride!!

Your pictures are lovely! I particularly like the ones by the pews with the windows in the background - so pretty! You both looks so happy in every shot.:goodvibes Jackie did my make-up as well, I agree about how easy she is to talk to - really put me at ease. We stayed at the BW for our VR and I saw Rev. Jack around several times when we passed Seabreeze Point (I think he was waiting for a rehearsal one time and a wedding the next). He looked so sweet and peaceful sitting there reading his book - seems like a really nice man!

Congratulations on your special day - I hope the memories make you smile for years to come!:goodvibes

Hi Joanne,
I will definitely continue to follow your "ramblings" and I don't believe they are mad! :) I may have a few regrets - but I don't regret the whole VR! I am so glad we did it and the WP is so beautiful - to be honest, I only noticed how empty the place looked in the photos. I never really noticed while we were there!
Love & hugs!

Thank you! I really like those pics too.

Rev. Jack is a sweetheart! After our VR he had to rush to another event. He definitely needs a microphone though - he is soft-spoken. I'm really glad we were able to book him.

I completely agree! Those are my favorites! :)

I like those and the ones of us at the altar. Steve was tired then and was leaning while waiting for Stephanie to set the "pose" and she ended up liking that and took a few.

Our proof book, DVD, and 157 photos arrived today from DFTW!!!! :cool1:

Now we get to look and order photos for our album. I didn't realize the pictures in the album would be 8x10 sized photos! Plus we're getting an 11x14.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions! :rotfl:

The DVD is cool! It has all the photos Stephanie took and it gives us permission to make copies (at least that is what hubby told me). :)

Just wanted to share!

Thank you so much! Stephanie was a great photographer!

The pictures are beautiful! So much love and devotion in them. Congratulations!

Thank you so much! DH & I have been through a lot together (especially the past few years). I'm glad he suggested doing a VR; it really gave us a chance to reflect on our life together and know that - yeah we'd do it all over again!

I loved Rev. Jack - he is just the sweetest man! I was so happy that he was available to do our VR. I love your idea of a VR in a grand villa! You know...that gives me an idea! Maybe for our 25th we'll do something like that. Just a few friends...maybe not actually renew our vows, but just party!

You definitely have time to plan it - but I'll tell you - time will fly once you really get into the planning of it!

I can relate to planning...I LOVE to plan! If & when I ever retire I am thinking of working as a bridal (or party) consultant - I just love weddings & parties!

I loved reading your report and your pictures are beautiful. Congratulations.:)

Thank you so much for reading along and for the compliment. We are very happy with the pictures (other than I wish there were more - I can never get DH to have portraits taken).

Currently we are awaiting THE album and the 11x14 picture. I sent off the info on July 22nd and they said anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks, so I'm trying to be patient. I can't wait to see the final product!

Thank you ever so much for sharing your wonderful day. Everything looked so beautiful.

Sarah xx
