Glad to year that Mom had a good day today. She was due one, that's for sure.
For today's update (Thursday), I will admit to being lazy. Although I did get up at sunrise for a photo, there were high gray clouds and low level fog to boot. So no pic today.
But the winds were less after sunup...
I always come down the Baldwin/Foley Beach Express Highways from I-10 and avoid the toll bridge by driving over to Highway 59 via County Road 4/Cotton Creek Dr. as mentioned in the link above. But my destination is Gulf Shores anyway and the avoiders they are referring to in the link are guests...
Today, Don, I am reminded of how well Spencer writes as he did last month.
He's direct, concise, and of course, he paints a mental colorful picture with the words he chooses to use. It gives me chill bumps to see it again.
Nerds like me, when on vacation, will search out used book stores hoping to find a few good, cheap train books. My criteria by definition is along the lines of:
- mostly/exclusively American trains and not a lot from other countries if any
- mostly steam locomotive related but not necessarily...
I am behind so let's do yesterday (Wednesday).
It was cloudy at sunrise and also foggy down close to the ground so no sunrise pic. But the winds were less so I got some puzzle time in.
Late morning we we in search of a big used book store on the north side of Foley (10 miles north of Gulf...
A hair less than a mile from the Settlement Bus Depot to the Bus Depot at Wilderness Lodge, @mco65. I assume, based on current reports, that Frontier Way (which runs past loop 2000) will be unavailable in the near term for the CFW conversions.
We visited the local fish monger.
Red snapper was our menu item which would be blackened with cajun and garlic/herb spices.
This is the staple of my spice pantry in one form or another.
Does anyone else have a problem at the beach with the moisture/humidity caking up their shakeable...
Getting caught up on a Gulf State Park data dump.
Sunrise photos are always a question mark. Today clouds on the horizon blocked a horizon type photo.
I went to take my shower and came back to this.
Plenty of bird life around the campsite. Mister and Misses Cardinal were out and about...
Gulf State Park data dump incoming. :duck:
Night before 5pm scare when I was prepping the camper and loading up and found this in the battery box.
Thankfully a quick drive to the auto parts store provided some replacement copper lugs to crimp on. Crisis averted.
Smooth drive down yesterday...
It just feels funny to me that they shut down a sit-down/ADR restaurant in Trails End (that had developed a pretty decent take out offering at P&J's adjacent) only to convert it to grab-and-go with no service.
Then they want to build a sit-down restaurant with service over by the pool? And...
You were a real BIRD DOG on this one, @Love Ft Wilderness . You knew something was up before everyone else did.

Ya know, @lanejudy , if someone is a die hard FW fan, the extensive transportation cost to get a legacy cabin up to NY state may not be too much to pay. :confused3
We knew they were going to build something here back in January 2024.
It was this thread started by @Love Ft Wilderness .
