    The Running Thread - 2020

Bring a change of clothes and change your shirt at least. You might even spray perfume on the shirt you change into to mask any smell. That said, anyone who signs up to ride in a car with people after a road race has to be prepared for odors. Comes with the territory.

More ATTQOTD: In Spring 2017, I was trained up to run the Maine Coast Marathon. The day before, the weather indicated a full-on Noreaster with high winds, driving rain and temps in the 40's. Having suffered through the horrible experience I referenced in my last post, I wasn't interested in...

    The Running Thread - 2020

ATTQOTD: From experience, completing a marathon when you aren't prepared and/or injured is the worst. Vowed to never do it again. It's possible to fake your way through a half marathon, but not a full. Save yourself to fight another day.

Official Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend 2020

Maybe going down Wednesday and doing parks through Friday? TP has the crowds significantly lower on the weekdays than the weekend.

Official Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend 2020

For those of you who have done Wine and Dine before, what are the park crowds like over the weekend? TouringPlans has them pretty large, up to 7's and 8's.

ATTQOTD: "Eliminating a variable" seems a smart thing to do. When it comes to running and injuries, better not to take the chance. That said, I have Hokas that are a few years old without much mileage on them and I use them occasionally. They don't appear to have deteriorated, but that's an...

Official Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend 2020

Just learned my son and his friend are doing Wine and Dine 2020... so I'm now thinking about doing it as well. Just thinking about it is exciting.

    The Running Thread - 2020

ATTQOTD: No MW for me, but I'm now considering Wine and Dine 2020 I've been away from this board for a long time. Since Fall 2017 I've been dealing with arthritis and the possibility that my running career was over. Hanging around this board just made me depressed - not because of the people...

Official Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend 2019

The 50's are a great decade in my opinion. Still young enough to do most anything - as long as you don't pretend you are 18 while doing it - but now with the time and wisdom to do it right. When I was 50 I decided to train for the Disney Marathon, with the idea that I wasn't ready to be old. It...

    Marathon Weekend 2020

It's all about classic Disney for me. I remember being enthralled with HM in 1978 on my first visit... so HM!

"Dead Horse" is a great name. What's the origin? There is a Dead Horse Beach in Salem next town over from mine that actually had a dead horse. Is it because trying to ride a horse for 50k would result in a dead horse?

    Marathon Weekend 2020

Pirates is the ultimate Disney attraction. It's an original Disney attraction (I remember being enthralled in 1978), so for me the memories and nostalgia it generates are almost unbearable. And it's also simply very good. The animatronics have stood up over time, and I didn't mind when it broke...

    Marathon Weekend 2020

With the late start for MW next year, Touring Plans has some relatively light crowds for that time next year. It has HS as a 3 on Monday the 13th, about as low as it ever gets. I get that the new attractions make it likely that's an underestimate, but will it get any better any other time. It...

Feb Totals Run: 132 miles Elliptical: 7.5 hours I was never a big believer in cross-training but I'm learning through experience that swapping out some running for the elliptical really mitigates the arthritis I'm now dealing with.

    Marathon Weekend 2020

SAFD: After both my marathons, went to MK in the afternoon with all-you-can eat at Liberty Tavern for dinner. I like MK because it's the heart of Disney and easy to get around, and Liberty has just the right food for post-marathon: tons of carbs in the stuffing and potatoes. If I make it back...

    Marathon Weekend 2020

I might be in for next year. Arthritis caught up with me late last year, and for a time my running career looked like it was over. Between losing some weight, cross training, running on forgiving surfaces, a lot of vegetables, spices and herbs, I've been able to manage it to the point that I'm...

Good luck everyone. Maybe someday I'll be able to do more Disney runs, I hope the best for you all!

    Downward trend in runDisney?

I haven't contributed to this forum for a long time but thought I'd chime in. Arthritis finally caught up with me after a marathon in the fall of '17 and I've been managing it ever since. For a time I thought my running career was over, but since then I've been able to implement some arthritis...

    4. Epcot 3. Hollywood Studios 2. Animal Kingdom 1. Magic Kingdom I agree - MK is Disney. Epcot seems to me to be a bunch of restaurants with attached gift shops. Great restaurants - but why do I have to pay a couple of hundred dollars just to walk in the door? There doesn't seem to me to be a...
