Planning first RC cruise and have a few questions

We love Royal! After 7 sailings with DCL, we have made the switch to other lines, and after our Freedom sailing we were hooked. We are on the Oasis next week! 1. Royal has transfers from MCO. Your luggage goes under the bus. 2. The shower has a dispenser with a shampoo/conditioner/body wash...

About how long is the walk from Saratoga Springs to Disney Springs?

We have walked from the Carriage House around through the golf course many times. It's a nice walk, probably 10 minutes to get to the House of Blues, if you're over on the Grandstand side.

    Types of Discounts

I agree that in general, earlier is better, but I just checked my Sept. 24 oasis sailing and the price for our inside room category (but GTY instead of picking our rooms) went down $600 per room. We already had a great deal for 7 people in two rooms, so this was just a fantastic deal at $2490...

cruising w/ 9 month old or 14 month old "easier"

Younger is better in my experience. My second daughter sailed at 6mos (as did my second son, 2 years before). Easy least. We are sailing again next month when she will be 17 months. Hoo boy! It's gonna be busy. We sailed with my second son when he was just about 2 1/2 (when my daughter was 6...

    Types of Discounts

Royal doesn't allow discounting (none of the lines do), which means every TA offers the same prices unless they are holding group space. But if what you mean is they matched an OBC, that's different. Some TAs can afford to give away most of their commission, but most can't.

    Types of Discounts

Generally speaking, all the "sales" work out to about the same discount except the kids sail free. Book early for the best price. Royal has been telling travel agents they aren't interested in playing the last-minute discount game anymore. And they've been doing really really well filling...

Disney Dream vs Freedom of the Seas

I love the Dream, but my whole family loves FoS too. I wouldn't hesitate to sail her again, especially since it's half the price of a Fantasy cruise (or the same as a Dream cruise) for our family. We are on the Oasis next, but then we are trying an even smaller ship (Navigator) after that...

Any rooms to accommodate a family of 6?

We have four kids and we always just book 2 cabins. We've managed to get connecting cabins every time, which makes it easier. But I'm not opposed to being separated if that's what it takes to get on the ship. I'd rather have a vacation and sleep apart from my husband than not have a vacation at...

    Breastfeeding

I've never had a problem breastfeeding on a Royal, DCL, or Carnival cruise. I'm on kid #4, so I don't even cover anymore. If being discreet is a concern, it's almost always more obvious that you are nursing when you throw a big cover over yourself and baby. I've had several servers take my...

Will we be underdressed? Do I need to go on a shopping spree?

You'll be fine in shorts and sneakers for the guys and sundresses and sandals for the girls (or shorts--whatever you prefer). I promise, you won't stick out. And on a 3-night double-dip, you'll be so busy I bet a lot of people will be even more casual than usual.

DCL Price increases just floored me compared to our Hawaii cruise

Well, we have FOUR kids now, so we'd have to find childcare for all of them if we wanted to afford DCL. Not gonna happen. We'll just sail on other lines until DCL comes to its senses.

DCL Price increases just floored me compared to our Hawaii cruise

We paid $2600 for 2A 2C in an IGT for the Sept. 2 sailing in 2013. 2014 was the last year we sailed DCL, because we added two kids to our family. Now prices are double what we pay on Royal and Carnival. Maybe when our eldest is in college and we can fit in one room again....Do you think she...

    "Crowd" calendar?

We have found that there are fewer people on cruises just after school starts each semester and just before it ends each semester. Every room may be booked, but it tends to be 2 adults vs 2 adults plus a kid or two. The ship is much less crowded that way. We sailed a September cruise to...

Palo extra charges - are they clear enough?

This is a random thought, but I always assumed sparkling water in a nice restaurant meant water from a bottle (and therefore, always at a charge). And if you wanted free carbonated water, you asked for seltzer water or soda water. I don't drink sparkling water, though, so what do I know...

    Crowds during Run Disney

This year's marathon weekend was unusual because of the way Christmas fell. Central Florida schools were back this week, but many many other schools go back next week. My friends in the parks (here for the race weekend as usual) said the parks were crazy, even mid-week. Certainly when I...

Mick Jagger becomes dad again at age 73

Hoo boy! And I felt old when I had a baby (admittedly, #4) at 38. My husband was 50. People thought that was insane (TELL me about it!). But 73? I can't even imagine. I guess if I had a nanny, maybe. But I'm picturing Jagger giving his kid piggyback rides and dancing around the living...

Need Opinions If You Are At WDW Now.

To sum it up, bring everything. Not only was it cold this morning, but it RAINED. In December. Actually, it rained twice this week. But on Monday it was 86. Again, just bring it all. (Good luck! We also had a 0% chance of rain while it was raining today. Florida!)

Spin-Off of Flu-Shot Thread: Why DON'T You Get a Flu Shot?

We haven't gotten the flu shot in a few years. Last time we did, we ended up getting the flu anyway. It was verified by swab and was one of the strains in the vaccine. At that point, I did a risk/benefit analysis and decided to double down on disease prevention. None of us have had the flu in...

Bought tickets separately...Am I SOL for FP+ 60 days in advance?

Oh, no, I see what I was confused about. I read it as Dec 16 was 30 days out from the day they check in, in which case today would be 60 days. But they were saying it was 30 days out from today.
