    Can you mourn a tree?

It was a beautiful tree. I have mourned 3 trees. A 200 year old pecan tree lived on my grandmother's yard. It was huge and had many years of plentiful pecans and generations of people whe enjoyed them. As kids, my cousins and I would hold hands and never could reach all the way around it. It...

How many miles a year do you drive?

About 12,000 for my auto and 15,000 or more for dh. I drive about 10 miles to and from work 5 days a week. Dh 90 miles to and from work 2 days a week. And he referees soccer several times a month. My car is the bigger travel car. Our kids are grown, so no daily kid shuttles. But we often go...

    Old greeting cards and Notes

My grandmother kept every card, note, announcement she received. It was a treasure to find them when we cleaned out her things. Many of them, I returned to the sender. It was an honor to find them and see the history in our family that she kept.

    Car buying?

We bought 2 used in 2020 from Carmax. No haggle policy. Was a fair price and because of Covid, no salesman on the test drive. Easy and painless. We bought 1 brand new in 2022. New cars were still scarce and another buyer waited in the showroom to see if we were buying the car. Again full...

2 other ideas See if your shelter needs foster parents for dogs awaiting homes. That way you don't have a full commitment unless you decide you want to. Look for an older dog that needs a new home. Our son and his wife adopted a 5-7 year old dog that had been in an elderly person's home...

An adult threatened my 6 year old

You want the employee's head. It's not on you anymore. It's on the employer. You've already stated you won't shop there anymore. You are starting to be a stereotypical 'let me speak to your manager' person. Not a good look.

An adult threatened my 6 year old

Sorry. You're still mad from the incident. Nothing the store says is going to placate you. Read my earlier post and the other replies again. Time to let it go

An adult threatened my 6 year old

Yes, it ticked you off and rightfully so, your protective instincts came out. But other than avoiding the store for a while and using it as a teachable moment with your child, it is truly not a big deal on the long arm of parenting. And will be one of the family stories you have to tell. Just...

    Baltimore Key Bridge collapss

I heard a report yesterday on NPR that there was a support there at least several years ago as another ship hit it. But did not do serious damage to the bridge because of the barrier. The speculation was that the ship in the previous incident was not as large or heavy as ships are now.

    Declining Dad

This. Have someone come in when mom needs a break, appointment, errands, church, etc. Talk to his doctors, can home health come check in on him. Does he have a walker to assist? My grandmother was 93 and started falling. At that time, my cousin took her in to live with her. But Gran still...
