Our 7 month booking window will be coming up soon, it looks like you can only book for 7 nights at the booking window, we will be going for 13 nights. We want to avoid having a split stay and rally do not want to move rooms. How do you do this? Do you call member services each day or can you modify the reservation online, etc?

Right now, you can only book for 7 nights when your booking window opens. Then you need to call every day after that to add the next night. At the DVC meeting last year, it was announced that they are working on a upgrade to the program to allow members to modify their reservations. So far, I haven't heard anything about when this will be implemented.

Hmm, I am wondering if it is soon because my friend who also will be booking at the same time was told that booking the entire vacation at the 7 month booking window shouldnt be a problem by then, dont know if that also means the 7 night rule is changing or not, but I honestly want aware of the rule before this because we never have had the issue where we wanted to stay at a resort where booking right at 7 months was important when we were staying longer than 7 nights, so I didn't think anything about it when she told me that until I saw the 7 day rule online

We run into this frequently as we book @ 11 months and stay for more than 7 nights. I usually book my first seven nights and then wait a couple of days to call and add a couple of nights and perhaps wait another couple of days to call and add the last few nights. Because I’m booking at 11 months I’m blocking anyone from jumping ahead of me to grab my villa, so I don’t worry about calling every day. W/ a 7 month booking though, I’d probably call every day to add the next day because someone w/ home resort could jump ahead of me. When you call to add they’ll just add the nights to your existing reservation, so no worries about having to move midvacation.

Yeah, they are legally required to have one each year, unfortunately it is always in Florida, even for the owners at the Grand Californian.

I attended the meeting last December at WDW (Contemporary), there was a meeting for California, they took a question by phone during the Q & A. They most likely joined by video conference.

Yep, we were at the Contemporary, too, and they connected to a meeting in California.

They haven't said anything at all about changing this. If you want to book all 13 nights at once, you need to wait until you are six days past your seven months booking date and then you should be able to book all 13. But you are risking not getting what you want by waiting. But the home resort folks may have already booked it up anyway.

Early January might be tough at seven months out with the Marathon. Do you have your home resort booked already in case you can't change?

Our home resort is Grand Californian, so that wont help. We are actually late January, last two weeks. Just trying to make sure I know everything that's going on before our booking window opens.

Not sure which resort or room category you will be looking for but it could be very important to be online to make a reservation at exactly 7 months out at 8 a.m. eastern for that time period. The Martin Luther King holiday is late next year and it adds to demand. However, the real game changer for that time of year for the last two years has been the NFL. The Pro Bowl was in Orlando the last Sunday in January in 2017 and 2018, and will be again in 2019. That has led to significant more demand for DVC rooms the last weekend of Jan (Thurs to Sun) than is normal for that time of year.
