Will my 3 year old be willing to wear a magic band?

Sure people have asked this, but I haven't seen it:

What if he doesn't want to? What if it keeps coming off? Will I be able to simply wear 2 on my arm and scan it for him?

Thanks!

No NEED for him to wear it.
(Yes, you can scan for him.)

OTOH, I've seen many reports that once a little kid sees everyone ELSE
wearing a MB... they WANT to wear one, too.

(That's why Disney sends them to kids even younger than three, and those kids don't need
a MB for anything at WDW.)

Our 2.5 yer old wore hers the entire time we were there last time. We all had one on, I had painted cinderella on hers which is her favorite, so she LOVED it. Showed it to everyone, told them how big she is, like big sister. Obviously, YMMV, but ours really liked theirs.

That said, it doesn’t actually matter, you can clip his to your belt or purse, or wear them both. He will only need it for FP, since he won’t be charging to your room or opening the room door.

And when we went, our 2.5 year old REFUSED to have anything to do with hers! :rotfl2: I just kept it on my purse strap so we didn’t lose it. I’m fairly certain we won’t have the same problem this trip (she’ll be 5.5) but if we do, I’ll just do the same thing and keep it on my purse to easily scan, when needed.

one last trip when youngest grandson was 2.5 he had to wear his just like his big brothers. any time theirs were scanned he had to scan his. it depends on the kid if they will wear it

You can always buy him one of the attachable accessory Disney Character pins and that will most likely solve the problem....it did for my two kids!

Depends on the 3 year old. My friend's child took his off and threw it in the bushes- never to be seen again because you do not dig through Disney bushes (snake potential). They had to go get a new one from the front desk. She kept that one for him since he hated them. Other 3 year olds want to wear them to be like the older people and love them.

It's really a non issue :) My kids are 6 and 7 and they loved the idea of having them but when we got there they didn't want to wear them. So they sat in our stroller the entire trip. I made such a big deal of it as though they were a "must have" because the inconvenience of us having to swipe for them was too much to handle.. lol. All we did was use the plastic cards to swipe for them. It's really not that big a deal. I honestly wouldn't buy lanyards either if you aren't pin trading (in the event you think that lanyards might be more convenient if your kiddo won't wear a MB.) Maybe it's just me, but it's really not inconvenient at all to have a kid who doesn't have a MB on their wrist.. it's a quick swipe and you put it back in your pocket or wherever and you'll only do that a few times, even less if you aren't staying on site :)

My son was 4 when we took him for his first time this past January. I made sure to pick a magicband in his favorite color, and once he saw he could use it to make mickey's head glow green at the FP turnstiles, he was hooked. He even wanted to wear it to bed at night (in his dreams, I'm sure he was prepared to make mickey's head glow green a million times for 7DMT)...

The CM at checkin told our youngest that the magic band held the Disney Magic and when he touched Mickey to. Mickey you get Disney Magic. We let his band open our room door first thing and he was hooked. Did not take it off the whole trip.

Wear one on each of your wrists or purchase one of these to hold his Magic Band puck and attach it to your park bag.

No, he definitely won't 'have' to, but this is funny because dh & I are at Disney now, and we have commented on the number of 'littles' that we have seen wearing bands and loving it. It is so cute - bands could almost fit on their legs, lol.

Does he have a favorite character? While my girls are much older (8 anf 17) when they saw the plain bands from WDW and the character bands they could get me to buy they both spent weeks researching their choices. And there are a lot of choices. My 17 year old selected the most g*d awful green band with Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter for example.

There is a similar product on etsy (BDI something or other, just search magic band), we LOVED them on our last trip. Everyone got to pick their favorite characters (Stitch for me, a glow-in-the-dark Haunted Mansion for DH, a Rapunzel for my daughter and a monorail for my son, but they have a huge variety of them). When the kids WANTED to wear them they had them on a lanyard. When they didn't we just put theirs around our necks too. Easy peasy, and we got tons of compliments. (I'll never forgot my 3 year old son attempting to impress one of the Stepsisters at 1900 Park Fare with his monorail magic band!).

The trip before, we didn't like the bands much (sweaty) and the kiddos hated them (my daughter's was attached to our bag/around a plushie neck almost the whole time). These were so much easier to keep track of, much more comfortable and easy.
