Anaheim Hotel/Anaheim Plaza Hotel Reviews?

Does anyone have any experience with the Anaheim Hotel/Anaheim Plaza (I've seen it as both) on Harbor between Castle Inn and Ramada Maingate?

Went end of Sept/first of October for 3 nights. I would not stay there again. Staff was very nice but multiple issues arose, and the long and the short of it is that the place has a nice lobby and restaurant but not nice rooms. I would much rather pay a little more. Even with the upgrades, the place is really a dump IMO. Don't go by what they show in the pictures!

I agree with the others. We used to stay at this place until all their "upgrades". It was cheaper and very short walk to the parks. But after the new owners came in they remodeled all the common areas and our last stay, the room was pretty bad. No chair or desk and the fridge and microwave were at the foot of the bed nearest the bathroom which made it really awkward. The carpets, drapes and bedding were very worn, and we paid for a deluxe room, which was a joke. I think they do have some rooms they've worked on, but not enough.
We have now stayed at the Del Sol and the Ramada Plaza and have been happy with both. We got a great deal on the Del Sol last summer, I think around $120 a night. They do charge for parking, but the Anaheim Hotel does now too.

I've have not heard many good things about the Anaheim Plaza but we have never personally stayed there. We have stayed at the Ramada Maingate and we didn't like it. When we stay off property, we stay at the Park Vue Inn or the Hotel Indigo. Neither one of these hotels charge for parking or have resort fees.

I've last stayed there before the remodel, so my review is kind of outdated. I found it okay. Staff was extraordinary nice - I was waiting really early for a friend to come and pick me up for a day trip and immediately someone was out checking if I was okay and kept me company until my friend arrived. Yes, the room wasn't the newest. It was clean though and definitely bigger (although standard) than at the Desert Inn.

I usually stay at the Desert Inn when my friend comes along. Their staff and service have gone down the hill. Last stay was the worst yet. First they tried to charge us for a cancelled reservation. In that wake had some correspondence because of a switch of credit card - other one (which they tried to charge for the cancelled booking, so at least that didn't cost me) was compromised, bank forced a change, couldn't be helped. We even left my room mate's card as a backup because she was getting in earlier and we were worried my card might get flagged after the last drama (I was in Florida before) as the Desert Inn had already threatened us to cancel the room in the earlier correspondence.

Three days before I left while I am standing in line in Animal Kingdom I get an e-mail. Card refused, call us at once or room is gone. WHAT?! It turned out they somehow had tried to use a long expired card from a stay several years ago. Why they even had it on file still: complete mystery to me. Beyond of a mystery was that no one noticed the card expired in 2013 and of course it would be refused! It took several calls and e-mails to solve that, and I never even got as much as an apology.

I did check their rates for the trip next fall just as a matter of habit. Usually when I booked that much out I did get rates from 89 to 109 Dollars - perfectly okay. Now their reservation system is showing me a nightly rate of $149 for the same period - beginning of October, nothing special.

That was the last straw. I am back to walking longer distances now. I honestly don't think the place is worth that price.

Thanks for the reviews everyone. I was a little suspicious of it coming up under different names and the one only had 18 reviews on Tripadvisor :) I'm looking at booking with credit card points and it was slightly less and slightly closer than the Hyatt House on the corner, so I knew I could get good info on it here! Sounds like new owners are trying to charge updated prices for only updated common areas... :sad2:

We might have a car when we arrive as we're coming from the San Diego area from a wedding, but we'll drop it off and shuttle or uber to SNA. We've done that at the Alamo location on Katella Ave before. So I'm not too worried about parking charges.

I'm leaning towards the Hyatt because it's quite a few less CC points than the other hotels on Harbor, and we're trying to conserve them so we can use them for a few more budget friendly trips. We've stayed at Alpine Inn on our last trips (with good experiences) so we're okay with the walk to the Hyatt. I'd consider Alpine again but they don't come up on the CC portal.

@Vala that's really weird that had such an old card on file. That would make me a bit suspicious.

Oh yes, we were and still are. The card used is being very closely monitored now. Thankfully all other cards used there in the past are meanwhile dead.

If this hadn't been a runDisney Marathon weekend I would have probably told them to just forget about the booking and had gone elsewhere. Unfortunately that close to a race weekend there isn't exactly much of an alternative.
