Opinion on banking points now for October use year?

I would really like some opinions from more seasoned DVC owners on this.

We just bought Poly in November. We have October use year. We have 90 points. So I've booked a stay in May 2018 that uses 68 points. I think we want to also go in early November 2018. So I was thinking I would bank my remaining 2017 points so I can go ahead and book November 2018 (which requires about 120 points).

I know that once I bank those points I can not get them back for 2017. So would it be a bad idea to bank them already so I can reserve that room? We aren't concrete on our November dates, we are flexible. But I think we will want to go so I should go ahead and get the room while I can, right?

What do you all think about that? What would banking my 2017 points now cause that might be restrictive? I don't think we will want to go back between May and November, but if we do, I would just need to pay cash for my room, right?

Since you need either banked and/or borrowed points for the November 2018 and don't have any particular plans for a second trip prior to Nov 1, 2018 I'd go ahead and bank. If the Nov reservation is 120 points then you are also going to need to borrow so I'd be relatively certain about going before booking.

If something came up and you cancelled the November trip and decided to go a little earlier you could always borrow in 2018 points to your 2017 UY for a trip prior to Nov 1, 2018.

Lots of what if's with another stay in your 2017 UY but if you really wanted to use points you could get more 2019 points borrowed into your 2018 UY and have those reallocated to your Nov 2018 stay to free up 2018 UY points that you could borrow into 2017. There's also one time use points from DVC - up to 24 points that you could buy at 7 months to use towards another 2017 UY stay.

But if you are flexible and just need a little more time to figure out if the November trip is one you'll take and if you might want to travel earlier you should be able to wait a bit to decide. Then I'd just wait to bank. PVB won't book up all of November that fast that you need to book right at 11 months.

I generally try to plan quite a long time ahead. For instance, I know that I will be planning a large family trip of 10 to 12 people in June 2019. I have a June use year, and plan on banking all of my 2018 allotment after our first planning meeting in June 2018, then booking the rooms in July 2018 at OKW.

You can always wait till your banking window ends, but I wouldn't wait till the last week to bank your points. You never know if the website is going to be down or DVC whole system will be down. It happens quite frequently.
