I love credit cards so much!

you are limited but on the bottom it says an additional 10k is allowed during this promotional period.

Looks like 2x for SPG/SPG biz according to One Mile at a time. CSR will not code 3x as points are bought through points.com instead of SPG.com

edit: was able to buy 10k. i bought 30k earlier in the year. Will buy an additional 30k next year when they do 35% off again.

Oh this is so tempting... so if I haven’t purchased any SPG points this year, I can purchase 40k during this promo? I have a minimum spend I need to meet...

edit2: most blogging sites dont say what it codes. the recommend CFU if you dont have spg credit card. i check my statement, it codes for amex Category: Merchandise & Supplies - Internet Purchase. Only thing i can think that might get more points is the Access more card for 3x on internet purchases... unknown what it codes with master/visa.

Unclear how Amex SPG would earn 2x on points.com. DoC payments workshop points to a reddit DP that says CIP earns 3x UR on points.com (https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/70u9ur/daily_discussion_thread_september_18_2017/dn6tknj/). Tempting, but that’s not the card I’m working on meeting spend...

im not sure then. im wondering if it makes a different... it makes me want to buy some marriott points and see if SPG will code 2x too haha...

While Starwood points purchases are processed by points.com, they actually do earn bonus points if using an SPG credit card. So you’d earn double Starpoints if you pay for the purchase with the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express or Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express.

Be the DP!

I’m really considering it, but conflicted between trying on the CIP (possibly earn 3x) or the Amex SPG Biz (meet the spend and possibly earn 2x). Not sure if the CIP will really earn 3x UR or the SPG Biz will really earn 2x Starpoints. Maybe I should try in 10k increments?

If the CIP does earn 3x, I doubt it’s because it’s coding as “travel.” Remember the CIP earns 3x on Plastiq even though rent/mortgage no longer codes as travel/lodging for CSR. It’s probably some niche “internet” category.

I did spg biz. I find UR points easy to generate but hard to generate spg. whatever u value I guess.

I know for sure it codes 2x. did that last time.

If points.com codes 2x Starpoints, SPG Biz it is! I’ve got a minimum spend I’m getting a little nervous about (in part because of UR category bonuses drawing in so much of our spend!).

what are you using to take pictures of it? they are pretty!

My phone with an app called northern lights that allows a long exposure. Unfortunately it doesn’t capture the purple hues and makes it more vibrant green.

interesting stuff. SPG is having a 35% off buying points...

the interesting part is that if you already bought 30k, you can buy an additional 10k. $227. gonna buy mooooore! u can never have more! :]
OH! I thought I was the only person to buy SPG points....(I just love them) since I bought 30k this year,I may go for the extra 10...It was Giving Assistant- shopping portal that I got a small cashback on my last purchase....it was $17-18 back on a 30k purchase at 35% off..... question, if I don't have an SPG cc anymore, will I lose the ability to get in on these sales in the future? (I still have the card, but deciding what to keep)

Sounds like the perfect excuse to do some shopping through portals for a DSLR and tripod, then plan another trip ... southern lights in Australia, NZ, or Antarctica?

What kind of giving assistant membership do you recommend? I'm being given two options--savvy and power.
not sure.... I didn't even know there were options! I just joined like any regular shopping portal, mine says power (I went and checked) but I like the 10% back, so 10% of $227 is around $27 (well,it says up to) but last time I used this portal,it was slow, but it paid out as stated!

you lose out on the 2x, but no, you can still buy points. its not exclusive to SPG CC, its exclusive to SPG guest...

OOH! Giving Assistant is giving 10% back at points.com today! I may do this.....

EXCELLENT!! I will do this for the extra 10K.

My DP: I bought 30K SPG points earlier this year when they were running the same 35% off. Went thru TopCashBack - got 2.5% there. Used my personal SPG AX - got 2x SPG for that.

ETA: When I read the fine print on Giving Assistant, the 10% is only good on Virgin America, and it's only 1% on Starwood. So I'll stick with TopCashBack.

I get 2x on my spg card for buying points? I have the regular one.... thanks for letting me know...I have to decide on keeping this one or not....it's a tough one for me!

All this discussion about buying Starpoints makes me want to buy some. But idk what I'd use them for right off, except maybe upgrading to a balcony room at the Dolphin in January...

Where do the extra Shop thru Chase points show up? If they show up haha.
In the Ultimate Rewards tab, there is a separate category under Rewards Activity for the Shop through Chase. I am expecting quite a few between shopping at Macy's and Kohls, I think I have almost enough for a one-way flight.

FM has a post on how to buy these through points.com. It worked fine for me back in July.

In the more recent post about the SPG sale, one commenter said that he did not get 2x SPG points for paying with his SPG Biz card...
