To Infinity and Beyond - Becoming a Better DopeyBadger (Comments Welcome)

I have the HRM that Billy linked to, the sosche. I like it. It is optical but it's up on my arm not my wrist. It charges via usb. I like it better than the chest strap because I had issues with chest strap and a sports bra and chafing. So my verdict as a woman, I love the arm band optical HRM.

That was my concern with the chest strap. So I ended up buying the sosche last night. It will be in on Thursday which means as long as it arrives on time I'll be able to test it out on Friday.

Fun fact #10: The Japanese unicorn, or kirin (after which the beer is named) is a fierce creature able to root out criminals, instantly punishing them by piercing them through the heart with its horn. In China, the similarly named qilin had quite a different disposition. It harms no creature, and its presence is considered a good omen. Reportedly, a qilin appeared to Confucius' mother before he was born.

Side note: I never noticed the unicorn on the label and I've had my fair share of these at sushi joints.

I should probably refrain from piercing anyone's heart during the race. Looks like I'll go with the qilin.

Hello! First time on your log. I am a little late on this, but here goes: 2:59:51. On a good day, with good weather, pacing, fueling, etc. I reckon you're in sub-3 territory, so why not go for it. There are at least a thousand things that can upset any marathon, but I think you have about 900 of them covered with your incredibly detailed, passionate and inspiring approach to training. Regardless of breaking the 180 minute barrier, I hope you have an experience that you enjoy and finish the race wanting more. Enjoy the taper and DFIU :)

Got it down!

Thanks! Looks like I've got to find those other 100 things in the next few days. If the conditions are right, then I'm confident I'll be close. But whatever happens, I know I'll do my best to enjoy the experience. I don't race much, so I cherish the opportunity to do so. I'll try not to FIU. LOL!

Been having a rough go of it. Has been a tough work week was scared of my 9 mile progression run. It's so challenging but some much fun. I nailed it maybe a little fast but much closer to target. I have been having some left hip pain and right knee pain. I skinned the left knee on the fall. I was worried going into 9 this morning, but my knee felt good. Still dealing with a very specific sore spot on my left hip. The orb is doing a great job getting to it, just happy I survived today. Have a big, hard, long Sunday run. Have to travel next week may need a slight modification but want to get through Sunday first.

Prediction for your race 3:00: 21. It should be good enough for Boston.

How much too fast? On each interval or just a specific one?

Is the left hip a new thing or something you've dealt with in the past? Any thoughts on why? Stretching differences, imbalance in items in left hand vs right hand, old shoes, cambered roads, etc.

Sounds good. Just let me know.

Thanks!

Good thing I'll be running way behind dopeybadger, with all this talk of piercing!

Weather Watch has started!

START - Grafton, WI at 7:30am

Screen Shot 2017-09-22 at 6.40.38 AM.png

T+D of 94, no clouds, and 5 mph tailwind (as of 8:45am this dropped to 90)

FINISH - Milwaukee, WI at ~10:30am

Screen Shot 2017-09-22 at 6.43.15 AM.png

T+D of 108, no clouds, 11 mph tailwind (as of 8:45am this dropped to 103).

Accuweather actually has it as T+D of no higher than 80 (at the start) and increasing clouds.

How about the weather at the finish around noon? :)

T+D of 106, no clouds, 11mph tailwind at noon

The T+D has dropped to 103 at 10am.

The weather predictions for temperature become more accurate around 5 days in advance. The precipitation and cloud cover predictions more accurate around 48 hours in advance.

That looks pretty good, right?

The ideal weather conditions for a marathon are around a T+D of 100 or less. So if we can get some cloud cover for the sun, then it will be near perfect conditions. Having a Dew Point of 42 will make it feel like a crisp cool morning air. I'd personally like to see the T+D around 80-90, but given the current conditions I won't push my luck.
