DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Definitely heartbreaking to see the results in the Caribbean. Been to BVI and US VI on DCL a few times and it's tough to see areas we have been at and the people we have met there having to deal with this.

Enjoy your vacation time.
We did a mission trip to St Croix and looks like Maria went right over. We saw the touristy areas, but spent most of our time on a very hot roof replacing it. I would say pray for them, but I'll say pray for all of those islands. Between Irma and Maria, so much has been destroyed.

Morning Guys.

Damp Wednesday up here but safe from what looks like another monster roaring through the Caribbean. We did get word from NCL last night that our March cruise will be changed and we should know within the next two weeks. It is going to take a long time to get some of those islands back to a good place I think.

The good news for today is that I finally remembered to bring the lunch I was suppose to bring on Monday.

You can see how close the fence is with the tree.

Glad the fence (and the rest of your property) survived!

It could be. The missus is Deputy Queen of the world, or something like that. In London a Nanny is ridiculous wages, about £35k,which meant a very large portion of my pay would be to fund that, as there is no tax break, so that comes out of our net pay. So it was a bit of a no brainer to take a step back and let DW not worry about one of the kids being sick or being called home. She in all honesty could be on the board of a big company (she's only 38 and is one job below). If it's my job to help her get there, that's the best thing to do for our family, we are a team. I'm gonna do some consulting in March/April time, but for now I'm hopefully gonna just enjoy the kids for a little bit. Still freaks me out a bit though mate. I've been working since I was 13.

Good luck with the change! Hope it works out for the best, for both of you.

Thanks Dan

Happy belated birthday, Darcy!

Keep the Caribbean in mind; especially the regular folk. What they're all dealing with now is bad, and I know people will reach out to help in the immediate (we're all good at that). But what they're going to need in terms of true help is long term support for the rebuilding (which we're generally not quite as good at).

Two Cat 5 storms right in a row. That's unimaginable.

A spot of vacation this time around. The Missus has three days left than need to be used or lost and we have a place where we can stay on the coast this week, so heading out is a no brainier. We'll pack up a bit, head down there tonight and pick us up a nice little medium sized holiday for not too many dollars. I much prefer my beach-chair office life over my regular hamster-farm office life.

Glad you're getting a break. Heading to Myrtle Beach again?

Dealing with some medical stuff that took me out of commission second half of last week and into Saturday. Got checked out cause I figured I had kidney stone issues again which I do as they have returned in both kidneys. Kicker was in addition, doc identified that abdomen pain was not from the stones but from diverticulitis.

Yuck. My wife ended up having to have surgery for diverticulitis. I know that's no fun to suffer through. Hope you recover quickly.

Hey guys. Still in recovery mode. This last week kicked my butt and looking back, I was severely dehydrated. It was too the point that I think I was hallucinating a bit. Not sure if some of the scenes I experienced were real or a bit cloudy. Happy to say the body is rehydrated and I slept a lot. Feel much better. One funny thing that happened is my daughter called the cops on me. It was Monday night. We had no power and Internet obviously but there was also no cell service. Couldn't reach out to her so she called the police asking them to check and see if I was dead. I was sitting in the car because the house was so hot and a policeman walks up. They called her back to let her know. She then posted on my FB letting everyone else know.

Glad you're on the mend! Hope the hallucinations were pretty, at least.

Still raining this morning so hard that the car starting losing grip on the Interstate at 70 mph.

:scared1:

Spent the morning cutting down branches on the deck. Made some progress and it should be cleared tomorrow or the next day. Leaving things like the broken trunk that is about 8 feet in the air for someone else.

Evening boys from a still Autumnal London. Youngest DD first day of school tomorrow. Heaven help them.

Like father, like son perhaps?

It is going to take some of those countries years before they recover completely.

And unprecedented I think. Still waiting on Maria to turn and head somewhere else. Feel bad for others but I'm not ready to deal with it again.

Leaving things like that broken trunk...
If I had the vacation time, I'd offer to come down with my chain saw and take care of it for ya.

Hey CJ, I think you might need some more hydration. He said youngest DD...not sure how that would be like father like son.

Yeah. That's what's so saddening. Some folks probably didn't have much to begin with (many islands have a tourist area, but get away from there, many are extremely poor) and now have nothing.

And unprecedented I think. Still waiting on Maria to turn and head somewhere else. Feel bad for others but I'm not ready to deal with it again.
Well, the track shows her turning north and following Jose, but we all know the track predictions and what actually happens may differ.

Spectrum to the house and say it's not a line problem. So, DW buys a modem, but can't get it to work. So, i wire directly to desktop computer, and it works. So, it must be router. DW buys another router and I hook everything up after tennis tonight. Then, change all the device passwords. What a long day. I should get to relax on campus for 1/2 day tomorrow.

I guess the lightening must have shorted out both? Or, maybe a surge thru the cable wire? The storm hit at 2:00 AM, so it's not likely I would have unplugged everything either. :headache: :furious:

Well, that's CJ. He is getting up there in years. :lmao:

My bad. I still am a little bit out of it. Let me amend...
?

And after another day's work. Take it easy man.

Like mother like daughter?
She's got a steely mind like her mum and a temper flare like her dad. To quote a midsummer nights dream, Though she be but little, she is fierce. We're working on keeping the steely mind but losing the temper.

Morning gents, I've been having a very busy week at work and today's schedule is no better. Tonight is curriculum night at youngest DD school, so it's shaping up to be a long day.

At least you have the talent to be able to do all that. I'm not not sure I could, although I've fiddled with a little of that stuff before.

I don't know the laws up there or the building code, but you might have a valid claim against the cable company. Their line is supposed to be grounded and if a lightning strike came through their line and fried your equipment, that's on them. (or should be)

I think he's around the same age as me or possibly younger, so I'm not going there.

Morning Gents!

Welcome to the last day of Summer. Beautiful day up here, hope you all have a nice day as well.

Dan, big game this Saturday Bud!

I looks like Maria is making the turn north. Current projections have it continuing to turn so it dies in the middle of the Atlantic. Hopefully it keeps this path. I for one am feeing better.

Hi all. Was off the grid for a few days.
Just quickly skimmed. Happy belated birthday Darcy.
Glad to hear the Maria might be skipping the US.

Happy Thursday. Tennis tonight. I think I'm going to bed early as haven't slept well this week.

Probably should have picked a career field in that area, as I seem to be able fairly adept in that area.

It's Spectrum. They bought out Time Warner. Mega Monopoly company, so not much of a chance.

Glad to hear you are safe for this one.

Watching Cubs / Brewers game 1 of a huge 4 game series as well as the Blackhawks and Red Wings. Have a good evening and catch yas tomorrow.
Look after yourself mate, watch Disney on You tube to make yourself feel better.

Oh yes. Go Cubbies.

Understood. Sorry.
Thanks and nice to know your a Cub fan too and regarding the calling it, that's better.

Cruise industry is gonna have some challenges for a while I fear with rescheduling as a big chunk of the western Caribbean ports unfortunately are gonna be down for a bit. I'm worried some may not come back on line. Hard part for those needing to recover is that tourism is basically the whole economy.

It certainly is mate. West Ham Spurs tends to kick off early, to prevent carnage breaking out. So 1230 it is. Ain't looking forward to that one. Southampton away is a good test for Man U, not many go to St Marys and get 3 points. I'm not taking the boy to the Spurs game. Too tasty. I might not go myself, as I'm at the NFL game on Sunday, and 2 days out on sports the weekend before the missus starts FT work might be pushing my luck a wee bit.
Hi all. Was off the grid for a few days.
Hey, welcome back. Cheeky trip?

Last day at work today boys, so may be slightly delicate in the morning. Have a great day, and I'll be back as soon as is humanely possible to call it.

Morning Guys, welcome to Fall!

Dan, enjoy your last day at work; I'm sure you new adventure will be just like a vacation. :rotfl2:

Wait! You're a Cubs fan and a Bears fan? The weather in Chicago isn't like London, so I must ask...why the Chicago love? Doh, just realized. Thought I was asking Dan. Disregard.
Heck of a win. Wish it weren't so late so I could've seen it.

Yeah, without the tourism, not much as far as natural resources or other employment to help.
