As I noted in my I75 vs I95 thread we wish to break up our drive from Sevierville TN to WDW... At the moment we are leaning towards I95 as there are more things to see on the way...
we plan to drive the 5 hours to Savannah and stay overnight somewhere south on 95..

Savannah question..
Can you recommend if it's worth it and doable to get of I95 and stop in Savannah for only 1-5 hours? I hear it's a great city, but we don't have more time... an overnight there would give us too much driving time next day...

But do you have any tips where we can quickly pull off 95, park and just see the main sights in Savannah for a quick dinner or snack and walk a bit around...

example for chicago I'll tell people stop by Navy Pier for an hour "touristy" break you see something.... Does Savannah have any central but easy to get from 95 and park sites??

Or should we just drive by.....

We stay at the Planter's Inn for 2 nights on our Savannah trips, love the historic section and waterfront. There's a parking garage next to Planter's, Savannah is laid out as a series of park-like squares and you can walk from end to end in an hour or so, there's one square with a large fountain. On the waterfront there are a number of dining and drinking options and a water taxi system for touring. I forget how long it takes to get from I-95 to the city.

Lovely choice... we agree!

We spent a few hours in Savannah in 2009. Parked in one of the large main lots and took a bus tour that lasted about an hour and a half. Got to see landmarks and learn about the history of the city. Very enjoyable. It took about 15 minutes to get from our hotel right off I-95. In total we spent about 3 hrs before we got on the road to head to Disney.

The area of Savannah that's closest to I-95 is the Hwy 204 area. There are several hotels & restaurants. If you want to enjoy the historical downtown area, you're looking at a 20-30 minute drive, depending on the time of day. If you want to take the time to drive downtown, it is nice & pretty. There's also the Southside area, which is a straight shot down Hwy 204. There's a mall & more restaurants & movie theaters.

Savannah is beautiful. I doubt you can see all of it in such a short time, but if you assume that you may come this way again, you can see something and feel good about it!!!
