RCI into DVC more difficult these days?

Hi all, In 2013 we used my parents' RCI to book a 2 BR at SSR the first week on November. For that we had started an ongoing search early spring. In 2015, we snagged a 1BR at SSR last minute in August. We were not expecting to go, so had not done any ongoing search, just got lucky. Last year we tried again, for the first week in November (Jersey week) and no DVC ever came up for us which I blamed on an online search that I set up too late. This year I have an ongoing search set up for nearly a year, again hoping for November- Jersey week. Nothing has come up. Last week I saw that SSR was available for the end of November and a date or two in December.

So my question is, have I missed the boat? Should I try an offsite place? (Suggestions would be great) Or do I test out nerves of steel and hope for a last minute DVC match?

Thanks for any advice!

I am not sure exactly how it works that DVC rooms become available on the RCI site.

However, I do know that DVC rooms only become available when DVC members aren't booking them. November is right in the middle of the busiest DVC months and members have been having trouble booking those rooms.

It sounds like you are waiting for someone to cancel a reservation.

I'm guessing you are monitoring and participating in the RCI/DVC Sightings thread over on the Timeshare User's Group (TUG)? While sightings are only available to paid members, the membership is cheap ($15/year or better in multi-year blocks) and provides access to some highly successful timeshare minds! :)

Minnie Tink, we have tried for that week exchanging through RCI for the previous two years without success. It seems to be a super busy week. Last year we ended up with Bonnet Creek in a 1 BR and I think we snagged that in the late Spring. I've seen some posts on TUG about SSR exchanges getting much more difficult to find recently and some mentioned that it happened after SSR started showing up on some other travel websites - Costco was one of them if I remember correctly.

As far as I know dvc only puts in inventory into rci whenever a dvc owner exchanges into rci.

Also I think they can pick and choose whenever that inventory is taken out, don't need to wait for 11 or 7 month window.

Maybe the lack of inventory is because fewer and fewer owners exchanges into RCI.

Which makes sense since the rental market is currently robust and lucrative, and it isn't hard to find a timeshare to stay in via the internet for cash - often at a huge discount. No need for members to use the RCI trade function.

I suspect that since SSR switched to the preferred-standard views, DVC deposits only preferred weeks into RCI and since preferred weeks take more points, they deposit less weeks. That's why at the time I said that, as a SSR owner, I was happy of the switch, RCI and last minute reservations pay the increased rates, while as a owner I can book preferred at 11 months for less points.

Also, DVC has waived the fee for members who choose an exchange, which indicates they want more deposits into RCI. Not sure, but DVC may have guaranteed RCI a certain number per year.

Getting a 1 BR with an on going search and sufficient TPU or points (weeks vs points RCI) shouldn't be difficult.

Disney has been depositing them later into RCI. Usually around 7 months out is when they start depositing. I have only seen 1 bedrooms at SSR and OKW. I did get a unit 2 months out. Quite a bit nerve racking as I got the confirmation from Disney Vacation Club 32 days out. I needed the confirmation so I could book fast passes before the 30 day window opens up to everyone. The TPUs have also gone up. So if you do not have enough TPUs, you may not able to match.

Thank you. We have enough points. And the ongoing search has been active for nearly a year. It's just getting close to being just three months out. I just don't know if the window is closed and I should just book one that is off site? Or hang on and be hopeful we can match close to the date?

Thanks for the reply. We have plenty of points. In the past we matched about 5 months out. We are close to just 3 months out now, so I'm just getting concerned the ship has sailed... but I guess we will hold out a little more. Thanks again.

That really depends on when your are going and what resort you are looking for.

SSR is doable with a search for the first 8 ish months of the year, also a lot of inventory is available as open bookable vacation. As for the last part you need a search. Some inventory goes into RCI as points inventory meaning no search will ever match those. Even weeks deposits which should match has been reported not to.

A lot of people is searching for all and everything that becomes available for oct-dec those that are lucky match SSR or OKW.

Last year very few AKV units was reported matched or picked up in open inventory during that period.

For the sake of it, I have a search running in RCI with my other timeshare and it's set to match anything else than SSR or OKW. I have had no matches and the search has been running for 2+ years.

Best option is to stalk RCI multiple times daily as there are currently no fixed time for when DVC makes their next deposit.

I agree but the OP was looking for anything down to a 1 BR as I read the note I responded to. I have a search currently for a couple of months from now that's only the higher end options 1 BR. I don't expect it to match but you never know.

Don't know if it works for the OP or not, but right now there is a week in a 1Br at SSR with checkin 12th of November

Not true. My exchange this past February was Standard.

Getting a 1 BR with an on going search and sufficient TPU or points (weeks vs points RCI) shouldn't be difficult.
If you are looking for a specific week (as the OP is) vs. being flexible: not necessarily. It depends on the week.

OP: My advice is to make backup plans.

We have had an ongoing search for a 1-bedroom in September. Still no matches less than 2 months out.

Seems to have been in weeks after all. It's not unheard of that the RCI searches don't match even if they should.

we just got (as in last week) a Jan 2018 for SSR via RCI. we exchanged BlueGreen Points through RCI. This is my first attempt at DVC via RCI. We got RCI confirmation, but I am still waiting for Disney Confirmation. I have called Monday (3 business days after RCI) as well as yesterday. MS says they can't see reservation yet and check back next week.

is this wait normal? I check RCI account and it still has SSR confirmed in Jan 2018.
