DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Afternoon, Guys. We're deep in the middle of summer up here. I'm currently counting down the days, hours, minutes, and even seconds until Labor Day. 80+ hour weeks and the endless flow of stupid boater tricks are starting to add up.

The only downside to Labor Day is that our oldest starts Kindergarten. How the heck did this happen? Some of you with older kids can probably explain the time warp thing to me. I swear it was just a few months ago I was holding a 1-year-old in my lap on the Monorail, and pushing him through the back of Future World for a nap. Now we have one starting school and another that talks our ears off.

Wonder if I am doing yard work today.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MIAMI HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY, WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING. * TEMPERATURE...HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL RANGE FROM 105 TO 110 THIS AFTERNOON OVER PORTIONS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY. * IMPACTS...

Yes, but it's a wet heat.

It's just a jump to the left. :lmao:

Just wait until they're graduating...it's like wha.??? Of course the cost of all the graduation stuff (pictures, ring, party, etc.) has a shock factor of its own. Not only do you need a college fund, but you need a make it to college fund. I had two graduate the same year and I was thinking I was going to need a 2nd mortgage. :rotfl:

A bit late today, stopped by to see if Dan called it, will have to check back in a bit. Everyone have a great weekend!
Same here. Looking forward to Friday night so I can get a break. Heading out to visit my in laws Saturday night. It's a short one hour drive and I haven't been there since Easter so I can't complain. I don't mind going out there actually. They live in a small town and it's very relaxing.
Looking forward to tonight myself to start up the weekend. Safe travels and make sure the IL's have some cold ones for ya.
Sad to say that Disney Legend Marty Sklar passed away at 83.

From the Disney Parks Blog: https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2017/07/legendary-disney-imagineer-marty-sklar-dies-at-83/
Pretty sad day, pretty much the last real connection to Walt. Thank you Mr Sklar as your work has brought a great many memories and experiences to our family

That's all good stuff right there! I know it sucks to see them grow up, believe me, but that's what they do and you are just there to guide, coach, console, teach, praise, kick em in the pants and love 'em and enjoy every minute of there growth and associated new experiences. Have fun, celebrate Kindergarten with dinner at your oldest's favorite restaurant when the day gets here :thumbsup2

I wish I had decent inlaws. Glad you can enjoy yours.

If you could slightly trim back on the palm trees CJ, then I would have a full on Theme Park View. I can see the castle and the fireworks, but my view of Space Mountain is somewhat obscured. There's a good chap.
Evening boys from the world. Norm, missed you tonight mate, it was Backscrathers and Lapu Lapus at Kona.
Could be an expensive one tomorrow chaps, Victoria's and maybe signing the DVC papers.
I'll try and call it about 4 so everyone gets at least an hour off. Have a great evening boys.

Victoria & Albert's and DVC in one day. That is a big expense there. :scared1::eek::scared1:

Speaking of expense, I looked at Grand Floridean main building club level, thinking of DW and my 20th anniversary in a couple years. Currently, that is $1000 a night. Then, there's the flight down Fri and come back Monday. Then there's the meal at Victoria & Albert's. That's $5000 for a weekend. I thought about adding a day at Epcot for eating a drinking around the world. But if I'm staying club level, i want to try and eat and drink my $5000 worth. :lmao:

Or, I could add a day at the spa after the food fest and see how much flatulence odor they can massage out of me. :lmao:

I hope you realized I was teasing. I couldn't find a good smiley to put on that (hmmm...guess I need to see if there's a tongue sticking out one). Your toe hurts, but you're playing tennis, which aggravates the injury, so I found your comment about not healing funny. I do understand though...can't count the number of times I've played baseball or softball injured.

I did. Just showing you the way I think - which isn't often or very well.

Happy Friday. Accomplished quite a bit at work today. It's been a deep hole to dig out of left by the last guy. Only a few more weeks until my programs start back up, and I'm still not ready to go. I assume this is normal in the church world. But for me, I like having everything planned and ready to go at least a month before it's scheduled, because there are always last minute things to be adjusted.

.

But then they make it to teenage girls, and the time warp reverses. Days feel like years as you deal with all the estrogen hormones. :scared1: :furious:

:thumbsup2

You know. We are allowed to go drinking without Dan calling it.

Sorry boys. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Last one in Mizners lounge has to pay my dinner check. Have a great weekend.

Mizner's is great. Victoria and Albert's is way more. I don't want to pick up that or the DVC check. Have a great meal, and tell us how it went.

I tried making a "Lost on Safari " from Dawa Bar tonight. Considering I had to cobble together my own version of Pangani punch it turned out pretty well.

Can't explain the time warp. Just hold on for the ride. Just wait until they are 17 and off to parties with their boy/girl friend every Friday night. I'm trying to develop those nerves of steel but it's not working.

Of course the cost of all the graduation stuff (pictures, ring, party, etc.) has a shock factor of its own. Not only do you need a college fund, but you need a make it to college fund. I had two graduate the same year and I was thinking I was going to need a 2nd mortgage. :rotfl:
Yep, the prom dress shopping has already begun around here even though it's not until April. Trying to convince her to buy this years line at 50% off instead of waiting for next years dresses to come out. But of course I just get "but what if I like next years better?" :sad2:

I wish I had decent inlaws. Glad you can enjoy yours.
I can't relate to my father in law that well, but I actually get along with my mother in law.

But then they make it to teenage girls, and the time warp reverses. Days feel like years as you deal with all the estrogen hormones. :scared1: :furious:
True. Hormones at that age are not fun.

You're welcome. It is a really good, smooth blend. I'm willing to drink it with you as well. :lmao:
I'm in. Can you get it down here Norm? I was gonna take a little piece of Hayden history back with me.
Morning boys from a sunny Bay Lake. A little bit poorer than I was yesterday. Vic and Als was really good. We had the 10 course with the wine pairing in the QV room. The service was impeccable, I got star struck by the waiter I saw in you tube when I was researching the restaurant. The wine pairing was good, but too much old world for me. The bill was eye watering. But I would really recommend it. On your 5k weekend mate, we stayed GF club last year. I think it's worth it just to stay in the main building.

Sounds good. Did you make enough for all of us?

It's available at most liquor stores. I've not seen it on Disney property, but I've not looked that closely. It is called Basil Hayden. He is actually related to me, although not close enough to get any royalties. Good to hear about V&A. We won't do QV room though. But definitely the 7 course with the wine. Maybe the wine helps the pain of the bill.

I did but y'all didn't show up so I had to drink it all myself

Driving back home from the in laws later today. Heavy rain in the forecast, hopefully won't be a problem on the highway.

Morning fellas. This was annual recruitment day at the church, which means i had to get up front and beg for help for volunteer by speaking at all Masses. One more this evening. I feel like doing something today, but then i would have to change my church clothes.

And we don't want it back after you drank it. :lmao:

Evening Gentlemen, had a good weekend. Up Saturday bright and early, headed to Cracker Barrel for breakfast and back to the house for some inside work. Today, errands and a trip to Lowes for some plants and pine bark for the back yard. The plants will not be allowed to roam free and will be in a pot. With my black thumb they probably will die within a month anyway. Had one PITA call but just kicked my feet up after that. Seems the humidity broke a little bit so overall a good day.

The only downside to Labor Day is that our oldest starts Kindergarten. How the heck did this happen?

You think it is an express train now, wait a few years. It seems like yesterday mine was meeting Minnie for the first time and now she is wrangling sharks.

Yes, but it's a wet heat.

I like that. And it continues to be a wet heat.

Just wait until they're graduating...it's like wha.???

Yep.

Sorry boys. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Last one in Mizners lounge has to pay my dinner check. Have a great weekend.

About time. Totally shirking your duties now that you are in the World.

OUCH! Did a weekend at the Grand Flo about a billion years ago and it was about $1,000. No V&A but spa visits, tickets, and vouchers for other stuff. They called it the Grand Plan.

You know. We are allowed to go drinking without Dan calling it.

Now you remind us.

I tried making a "Lost on Safari " from Dawa Bar tonight. Considering I had to cobble together my own version of Pangani punch it turned out pretty well.

Sounds good. Never had a "Lost..." have to look it up.

The service was impeccable

We joked they had cameras focused on each table and the guy controlling the Eye in the Sky would give directions to the wait staff. "Albert, it looks like he is going for a roll, get ready. HE PICKED IT UP! MOVE, MOVE, MOVE, NOW!" Almost before I put it on my plate, he would unobtrusively step in and replace it. Not a coffee drinker but the coffee brewing thing was cool.

Good stuff. Someone gave me a Booker's small batch and I also enjoyed that. The father of a very good friend of mine was a lawyer and filed the incorporation papers for Maker's Mark. They offered him a flat fee or a small percentage of the distillery. He took the flat fee. Oops.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Wow, where did that weekend go? Have a good week and may it go as quick as this past weekend.
But then they make it to teenage girls, and the time warp reverses. Days feel like years as you deal with all the estrogen hormones. :scared1: :furious:
Yep.................

.............been there done that and wait til the wedding dress price tag.............

They sure do grow up way too fast............... All you Dads with younger ones hang on for the ride and enjoy!

Seems like we have a new tradition goin here so didn't want to mess that up.

What's in that? Sounds like a great idea to start having WDW drinks on the weekends. May look into doing that even if it's regular stuff like champagne (remind DW of her fav from EPCOT), Yuengling which reminds me of HS, Dawa Bloody Mary, Tusker Lager, the vodka lemonade slush in France, etc.

Great bourbon, thanks for the info on this Norm.

Ughhhhhhhhh, not a good call

Happy Monday. I managed to forget to do some work online trainings, so I'll be clicking away here shortly. Looks like i have some down time for a couple weeks, even better once the dds go back to school and i don't have to drive then all over town during the day.

Ouch. Hindsight is always 20/20 though.

I've tried Booker's. I don't remember it being terribly unpleasant or super great, so that's all i can give you. I finished my last St Bernidus Abt 12 this weekend. Time to make another trip to the liquor store for more.

Seems like we have a new tradition goin here so didn't want to mess that up.

Yes, that lemon vodka slush in Epcot is a must do. I like to get a slush, drink it while i wait in line in that bakery in the back, get a croissant, and then go get another vodka slush. :drinking1

Funny thing on the coffee I texted it to my FIL, and he came straight back and said they were all the rage in the UK in the 60s, he's digging out the back of his cupboard for me...

Stay safe up there with Emily coming by. Hope it doesn't affect park hours.

I ended up finding one somewhere and bought it for a gift.

Cheers bud I think it's gonna pass through in a bit. It was pretty ropey weather up here yesterday, so we sacked off Fantasmic. Didn't fancy standing in that Bus Q for the hotel. We should be out of MK by about 8 tonight, BOG for dinner, giving it one last chance. On the tonga toast this morning, and Kath is already on the mimosas. Kath made the point this morning that the Poly seems to be the hotel where adult beverages are the most encouraged....
