Time To Get Girly!

Oh thanks again to all---I so appreciate all of your time and help. I've never heard of spin pins, interesting!

I swear by Spanx for the parks. Keeps my things from rubbing together, keeps me looking and feeling flatter, and gives me some extra support. Every time o go without I'm sorry.
I wear cute skirts and sandals, which helps me feel my cutest, I also get gel manicure and pedicure so my nails are awesome.
I get my trusted stylist to touch up my cut about a week before I travel anywhere, not just Disney!
I sweat off my makeup, but I do wear waterproof mascara and carry lip gloss.

I wonder about this too! We will be going in November and while I don't need professional photos, I would like nice photos :)

I don't wear makeup at home, so can probably get away with that, but am thinking of trying some of the foundations/powders recommended for oily/combo skin types. I think a translucent setting powder after sunscreen might work well. But I'm probably going to just wear a sun hat in the parks and not need sunscreen on most of my face, just body, so perhaps just the powder?

Also, I have long curly hair that does NOT do well in humidity. (I grew up in Florida... I know the horrors.) I've been researching keratin hair treatments to keep my hair either straight or straight-wavy, and frizz-free. Then rain showers, sweat etc. wouldn't be any issue, and getting ready wouldn't involve much with my hair. Just air dry and go!!! What a dream :) I think I'll try one this summer, and if it goes well, get another in early November...

As for undergarment type things, you might try spandex, high-waisted underwear under whatever you plan to wear. I used to always wear semi high-waisted boyshorts under sundresses if I was bloated, on my period etc. in the summers. And though it's not quite the same as shapewear, finding the right kind will be smoothing and flattering.

ETA: if the keratin treatment turns out to be a bust, I will probably either opt for french braids on park days (dear partner will have to learn too ) or maybe cut my hair to shoulder length.

I just wanted to comment that I also have long super curly hair (my avatar picture is documentation of the last time I decided to spend the 5 or so hours it takes to straighten it). My hair has also never reacted well to blow drying so my normal practice is to let it air dry, and at the parks tie it up after 30 minutes when it becomes annoying. Lately though I've been conditioner washing and product setting it at night, then putting it all at the top of my head (while still wet) in a high ponytail with a tie that won't crink, then letting it dry in my sleep and having it ready to wear down in the morning. My plan is to do this next disney trip, as it cuts down on humidity frizz and does not require any additional work other than the two minutes of adding product/scrunching/finger combing that is part of any curly hair process.

First, lmao @ 5 or so hours. I feel you.

I have a similar process. Curly haired girls unite! :goodvibes Always shower at night, so I'd pile my hair into a bun on top of my head, tie it off and go to sleep. Perfect curls the next day - voluminous, minimal frizz. Add coconut oil to my dry *** ends and be on my way  But sometimes this gives me headaches! Even with loose buns/ponytails, I barely last more than a couple of hours  it's why I switched to spin pins for buns; I need like 6 or 8 to really keep the hair in place, but it evenly distributes (or eliminates) pressure. And it's not like I was doing tight styles before, either. I *think* maybe my scalp is suddenly sensitive to a freaking ponytail/bun because there's a whole lot more head/neck/shoulder tension from computer work, and any extra tension (however minimal) exacerbates it. Low and loose side ponies have been my go-to recently. Or maybe I'm just aging and my hair is thinning, which I assumed wouldn't happen for many more years :faint: Anyway, it is still an excellent routine, and it totally works in Florida.

On the other side of the states - the first time I visited NV was a real treat. I'd step out of the shower, my curls would instantly coil and stay that way, and my hair looked like I was fresh out of the salon. Semi-arid and dry regions, how I love what they do for my hair :lovestruc

Again, thanks all! I just love hearing everyone's stories, tips and fun products they use, etc. Very helpful :)

OMG, don't get me started on thinning hair. It's crazy how much I've always shed, but it feels like I am losing hair in droves now that I've reached my mid-thirties. The bonus with curly hair is it rarely looks thin, but you always know it's half a thick as it used to be! I need to go get a haircut and give up some length.

The 'Instagram Trick' of primer/setting powder/liquid foundation works surprisingly well even with sunscreen. If you really want the matte look, that holds up better than anything else I've tried. I slap a bit of Bare Minerals powder on top instead of sunscreen if I'm wearing a wide-brim hat all day - actually all day, the sun will burn given five minutes of unprotected shine. Lip tints are my go-to in daily life, and my L'Oreal Manga Lash mascara flakes a bit but doesn't melt in the heat, so that's excellent.

If you're a bit combination/oily like me, face blotting sheets are 100ct for $5 everywhere, and dry shampoo has a lot of uses.

(I'm contemplating trying the ice water setting method during our next trip, just because the ice water would feel amazing.)

For clothes, I cannot say enough good things about Jockey slip shorts/skimmies for under sundresses and skirts. They are breathable, cool and prevent friction. I am a huge fan of Old Navy compression capris. They are high waisted and fit a bit snug. It prevents the jiggle but does not feel like sausage casing. This is probably TMI, but I find a padded bra helps prevent sweat stains under the bust area on super hot days.

Makeup advice may seem complicated, but it's not that involved. Sunscreen, BB cream (Neutrogena skin enhancer), bare minerals foundation, waterproof mascara, and Maybelline Baby Lips in a bright color.

For hair, I scrunch in some anti-frizz cream and air dry. Then I put it up with spin pins--they are like bobby pins on steroids.

That tip for the Jockey's slip shorts is one of the best ones I have ever heard! I bought some for my recent trip because I love to wear dresses (it is cooler!), and unfortunately my thighs have always rubbed together even when I was a size 4! The slip shorts are also moisture-wicking, so you don't have sweat running down your legs.

I also wear Bare Minerals make up, and had no issues with it running.

when my family goes to disney, we go in the dead of summer so we'll head back to the hotel midday and so i only need my makeup to stay on for the morning and then again in the evening. i tend to wear makeup a lot at home and vacation is no exception but i still want to be comfortable and so i've learned that a primer, bb cream, concealer, a powder, either blush/bronzer to bring color back to my face, mascara, and a lipstick (eyeshadow and eyeliner optional) are good for me. i linked the products that i use when i go and frankly, it seems like a lot when listed out, but it doesn't end up too heavy and it works well in the florida heat and in pictures. i hope i was helpful and enjoy your trip!

Oh thank you again everyone, so many good replies! Thanks Longlostprincess, awesome post as well! Yes, like I said in the beginning, I'm not aiming to become some model strutting down Main Street; I just want to feel like I look okay in photos and such. I also don't plan to cover my face in makeup but am just wanting some basic good products. Minnesota (where I am) and Florida are quite different (obviously!), and I am very thankful for the great replies here!!! You are all awesome.

I'm going in August too! I am absolutely starting the day looking nice for the same reason as you mentioned. It probably won't end that way:rotfl2:. I try to take a lot of pictures early in the day. For makeup, IT Bye Bye Pores powder has been working well for me but I haven't tested it in Florida yet. I also tried some new eyeliners that again are holding up here but not sure about there! Marc Jacobs eyeliner that was my free birthday gift at Sephora is so far the winner. Last time I went in the summer I blew my hair straight and wore it up what a disaster! This time I'm going to embrace my fine, wavy hair and scrunch. I hate my hair up so I'm not sure what I will do. I have been trying different anti frizz products no clear winners yet. I do like a scrunchie or Invisibobble for my hair because it holds my curls and no dents so if I do put it up? Invisbobble has been working better at holding it on top of my head at night. I have the spin pins and I must not be using them correctly. I'll have to try them again.

For clothes I'm doing shorts and tank tops. I have a few Disney tanks then I bought a few work out tanks that don't look like work out ones to keep cool (Old Navy) . My friend recently moved to Florida and she said everyone in Florida wears cute dresses because of the heat. I haven't found any that I like how they look on me though I have yet to find an undergarment that doesn't make we sweat too much or give me a stomach ache. Maybe because I by the imitation and not the original Spanx? Also from what I see from the teenagers it's all about how you stand to make you look better in pictures. Hence all the hands on the hip! :rotfl2:I think there are pins on pinterest, "how to look better in pictures".

Minnie, when in August are you going? We are doing the very last week. I loved your post--I can relate to alot of it. I have shoulder-length blonde hair, non-curly, but I realllly don't like it up. However, with the heat and humidity and all, I don't want it down my neck and in the way, etc. I want to check out spin pins, where do you get them?
You know, I currently own ONE pair of jean capri shorts---I need to fix that situation! I will probably visit Old Navy, I hear they have great things. Like you, I would love to find a cute sundress, and also like you, I can't seem to find the "right" one (s).
I really don't enjoy the idea of any undergarment, but picture-wise, I know I will thank myself for that later. I'm wondering if alot of women/girls go for an all-in-one bodysuit at all??? I've had issues where the Spanx I was wearing, just kind of rolled down, and that is no fun.
Yes: I'm with you; I think it IS all about how you stand for a picture. Ha, I'm sure there ARE any number of links and threads and posts for "Looking better in pictures". My thing is, I don't want to spend all this money to go down to Florida and after the fact, be grossed out by the pictures. That's why I did this post in the first place. I see any number of cute women/girls at Disney, and they managed to do it :)
Thanks again for the post, I like your style!!

We are going the second to last week of August. I have shoulder length blond hair too!:) I got the spin pins at Target. I have seen them at Harmon, Amazon and I think Walmart too. They have different sizes, mini and regular and they are by hair color. Here is a picture, this a multi pack but they still weren't this expensive:

https://www.amazon.com/Pack-Goody-S...TF8&qid=1499796206&sr=8-14&keywords=spin+pins

I think they also have Spanx tank tops but I think that then rolls up instead of down. :upsidedow

I'm glad you did the post, I love the tips too! No snarky comments either, bonus!

I love tunics with a cute pair of shorts and sandals. The tunic hides any tummy and prevents the muffin top, plus some of them are long enough they're more like a short little sundress. We went last year in late August and they were perfect, not to tight, made from a cotton blend like a t-shirt, which let them breathe and dry quickly. Also they come in just about any color you could think of, I found them on Amazon and would buy different colors that reminded me of Disney characters, light blue for Cinderella, yellow for Belle, etc.. it was my lighter way of Disney Bounding. As for hair, I tossed it up and pinned into curls, I can't braid, but we're going again this August and I learned how to do a pull thru braid so I might try that, anyway it goes if you have long hair, find a cute easy up style. Onto make-up I really don't use it, but I also know what you mean about the pictures. I used my normal eyeliner, and then Lipsense because it's a lip stain and it really does stay on lips for the entire day, unless you eat something really greasy, but then I still only have to re-apply once. I was super happy with my pictures from last year, and can't wait for this August!

Do you have a link to the tunics you bought on Amazon? I love sundresses but love tunics too as they hide muffin top.

OP, for August I definitely recommend practicing updos as it will be so hot with your hair down. We went in Sept and I am anti-updo and had to give in a couple times because my shoulder length hair was just too hot!

I have not so great skin that runs oily and due to products I use to keep my skin under control, it makes my face more prone to sunburn. A great makeup routine is key for me in WDW so I don't end up looking a bright red oil slick in pictures. We went in late October last year and end of May this year, and these are the products I plan on using when we go in September to keep my face in check (and they work great!)

-Murad's oil-control mattifying moisturizer
-bareMinerals prep step broad spectrum
-TooFaced primer
-A solid liquid foundation (currently using Lorac's porefection)
-Lorac's Porefection Baked perfecting powder to set my foundation
-TooFaced finishing powder

And then I use a waterproof mascara and eyeliner so my oil skin doesn't leave me with raccoon eyes by the afternoon.

Not my favorite picture of me overall, but this picture was taken after a full day at MK (pre-opening breakfast at BoG) at dinner at Citricos around 7 that night with no touch ups throughout the day to my makeup during our trip at the end of May this year.

Oh very pretty picture LadyD! Thanks for chiming in, I just love knowing how everyone stays so nice looking at Disney. Good product list too, thanks!

I always wear makeup in the park but we also dont go during the height of summer. I use a high spf moisturizer (50 or higher) under my foundation and make sure I am wearing a light coverage liquid foundation. Tarte has a really good one that's light coverage and SPF 15. Other than that I just do eyeliner (also tarte) and a basic neutral eyeshadow and lip gloss. I stick with lip gloss because who the hell cares if it come off, you dont need to reapply unless you feel like it. I never ever wear mascara since it always ends up flaking or running while at the parks from getting sweaty and running around. As for clothes, well wear what fits you best. Muffin top and not looking great seriously just comes from people not dressing their bodies properly. And as i just had a nine lb baby and a c section i'm pretty sure i'm going to have to buy a whole new wardrobe even after all the baby weight is gone because things just aren't the same anymore lol. Have fun at the parks!!

Clothes: I only wear black exercise capri in the summer months. I have 6 or 7 pairs lol and I choose nice tank tops or short dresses.
Hair: I pretty much always put my hair on the side like a side braid or chignon. Just slightly more dress up/flattering then a regular ponytail lol. Caroussel photos is in October 2016, the other photo is in July 2015. I have natural wavy hair so I just try to not let it in my face and forget about straight lol.
Earings: I usualy wear cute earings. They are not anoying in the heat like a necklace and don't leave tan marks
Make-up: In october 2016: BB cream, waterproof mascara, Revlon colorstay lipstick in a natural color, and I fill in my eyebrow.

Veronique, such beautiful pictures, wow. I love your pretty hair too. I WISH I could get my own hair into a braid or two!!!! Maybe I'll practice doing that before we go, ha ha. Yeah, I am still on the hunt for "bottoms"----I have some cute tops/tshirts to bring though.
Thanks for your nice post and helpful advice!
