First time EVC rental. Can you park it for a period of time?

I'm sorry if this is asked repeatedly.. I did search before starting a new thread.

My SIL is renting an EVC for our upcoming trip due to poor knees and recent surgery. I've done multiple Disney trips but never with an EVC. I think I have most of the info understood, but I still have a couple questions.

She can walk, but not the amount of walking necessary at Disney. Do people ever park their rented EVC's for a period of time? If we're in Fantasyland, she can walk to most attractions in the area without the need for the EVC, is it ok to leave it with stroller parking or is that not safe? I assume they have keys that you can bring with you? I'm sorry if that's a stupid question...

Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Yes some people do park there ECV and walk most of the time stroller parking is ok some time the CM have a place for your to park your ECV, so I would ask a CM. Just like stroller the ECV can be moved to make room for other ECV/ wheel chair. so you may want to take a collerfull scarf or something to tie to the handle so that you can see it easy. also take your key with you and do not leave anything that if walked away would ruin your vacation in it. My friend use one and we do leave our food in it, but not our phone and things like this.

Sure! I parked my ECV in stroller parking by the Haunted Mansion, went over to Columbia Harbor House to eat, then came back about 45 minutes later. Same thing at Ellen's Energy Adventure. In all cases, no one knows (or cares) whether the ECV has been there for 2 minutes or 2 hours.

Thank you both so much! OK, so parking it isn't a problem, and we need to take the key with us every time. How will CM's move it without the key? (I'm sorry if these are really dumb questions...I'm sure once we get there and have it this will all be clearer to me). I know not to leave anything important in there since it's similar to leaving our stroller parked somewhere. But can we park the ECV next to her sons stroller? There's no special spot for them specifically right?

There is a is a leaver on the base of the ECV that you move to put it in manual mode so that the CM can move it.

And no dumb questions! All of us who use ECVs/scooters here (whether full-time, or only at Disney) - every one of us had these same questions at some point.

Ask away - that's why we are here! :)

I wanted to add a couple of suggestions, if I may?
Always take your key. I have a little stretch bracelet key chain for my keys. Then I just wear them so I do not loose them.

Cover the power box on the handle with a plastic bag if you leave the scooter parked. FL rains come up fast. Shower caps work great. Fold seat down if possible to keep it dry and not so hot from the summer sun.

Do not park it near the smoking area. It will get moved (by guests) and used as a mobile work station while they smoke. Boy was I mad on that one.

Often scooters are parked by the strollers. In Tomorrowland at MK there are designated parking spots by the Rocket Tower. Scooters are like horses. We tend to just herd together. If one is parked somewhere, there will be five there shortly.

Tie a scarf or something unique to the scooter so a cast member can help you find it if they move it.

You did not say if you were renting from an outside vendor. Hope so as Disney runs out of scooters.

If SIL has a handicapped parking pass, and you are driving, be sure to bring the pass. Makes it much easier.

If you are renting from an outside vendor, be sure to plug the scooter in each night to charge. Watch that the power stays on to that outlet once the lights are off in the hotel room. Most chargers have a light that shows it is charging.

SIL may want to bring a cane. They are handy to boost oneself out of the boat rides.

Have fun.

Be aware if it may rain. Put a plastic bag or shower cap over the controls if you are not parking it under cover

Also, never leave anything you want to keep on the ECV. Bring your bags or personal belongings.

Not a dumb question at all! I remember asking the CM who'd moved my ECV at KS, "How did you do that without the key?" That's when I learned about the handle at the bottom that they can lift up and the ECV "free-wheels"-that means it can be pushed around without the key. First I knew of that!

Thank you so much for all the tips!! <3 <3 I definitely can use all the help I can get! This is all very new to us.

I am renting from Apple scooter because I saw on here they are a Disney vender and will deliver to our hotel. I rented it for the whole week.

I am concerned about rain for sure... what if it's actively raining? Is covering it with a poncho enough to be able to keep moving or do we have to wait somewhere dry?

I really hope you have a good experience with Apple, but their record hasn't been the best lately. Last I looked they had an F rating with the Better Business Bureau.

I experienced this on a past trip when it rained most of the evening during the MVMCP I attended. I covered the handle and power box with a clear rain poncho, secured with a bungee-type cord. That way I could still drive the ECV but it protected the key parts from getting wet.

My WDW packing list now always includes two rain ponchos - one for my ECV and one for me. :)

I bought a proper full-cover ECV rain cover that, if necessary, I could completely cover myself sitting on the scooter with only my face sticking out. It is still in the bag!

Last year we were there during an extremely wet day (tail-end of Gaston and 2 days before Hermine). I wore my poncho, but instead of poking my arms out of the sides I flapped the whole front of the poncho over the tiller section and operated the scooter almost completely under cover.

If you are caught in severe rain, if you can't get right out of it for the worst, the thing to do is go quite slowly so you don't set a 'bow wave' going and try and keep out of any puddles which could splash up and cut the battery out. If it's only a bit of a drizzle you can drive in that without worrying. I asked my scooter people about driving in the rain, and his response was "Don't worry about it - you've just seen me drive this over here from the van."

Regarding parking up for any period, I personally wouldn't do it unless I could guarantee it's fully under cover. We went to BoG and I took it inside with me, parking it in the foyer where the restrooms are.

Cute but it still won't cover all the scooter and the seat and any backpack you may use will still get wet. This is what I have:

Well, while the description for this UK site purchase doesn't indicate the measurements as Amazon does, they appear to be the exact same item. I'm curious why you don't think a 40" long back panel will protect the seat and a backpack - which the OP never indicated is being brought?

I never said it was a personal recommendation for the OP. I said that was what I had bought for my OWN use and my own requirements. Looking at the two pictures, they don't look identical to me. Let's not get caught up in the details because it's a distraction and a waste of time.

Just another tip. For fair skinned people pay attention to your arms. They will be stretched out in front of you as you hold the handlebars. Load up and reapply sunscreen.

This! My hands burn every year. This is one reason I tend to drive around one-handed. I put sun cream on, but keep forgetting to re-apply after bathroom breaks, so my hands get quite damaged.
