Question about leaving bags in Scooter while on rides?

I have read on here that you don't want to leave anything that you don't mind losing in the scooters and I was wondering if there is any rule about having a small back pack that has pull strings to close it that could be tied around the basket and then have a small pad lock on it while enjoying the rides etc.? I know you can't lock the actual scooter, but I wondered if the CM would cut the lock off the basket? Thanks for any input on this.

only way I would leave a bag on scooter would be where I left as I got on ride not in stroller parking. how is a lock to a basket going to stop someone from going through the bag? strings are too long for a lock to help with most draw string bags

I don't think the lock itself would be any problem; CMs aren't going to bother a lock that is only locking your bag to your basket. However, as PP points out, the pull strings on most string bags are quite long and might not secure well (it would secure to the basket, but people could open the bag). If the bag only contains something like a poncho, sweatshirt, waterbottle -- that might be a risk you are willing to take. I would not leave a wallet, camera, tablet, or anything of value in the bag even if it is "locked" to the basket.

Enjoy your vacation!

It's not a bad strategy. A thief would want to go through a bag looking as casual and natural as possible. Tearing a bag apart is the opposite of that. It would do nothing to stop a determined criminal, but let's be honest, what kind of determined criminal pays for entry into a park in order to steal $15 worth of bric-a-brac? Ask anyone who's owned a soft-top jeep wrangler how often they get broken into. I had mine for 15 years (5 in Brooklyn) and never had a problem despite that canvas door posing no obstacle to a thief.

The CMs won't cut a small lock off of your scooter basket. For one thing, doing so would be akin to vandalism. For another, why would they want to? The only reason they'll touch your scooter at all is if it ends up in the way and they need to re-park it.

I have a KYSS bag that I lock onto my ECV. It's a locking bag with a chain. You can look up their website for pictures. Even though it locks, I still don't leave anything valuable like cash, credit cards, or expensive electronics.
The CMs will not bother anything on your ECV, they just need to be able to move the ECV if necessary.

A thief would just cut the string on the bag in a split second and walk off with it. Even if it wasn't attached to the basket, they're not going to go through it right there. Someone who is stealing will grab any bag for the chance that something is valueble. They won't take the time to assess a bag's contents to only steal when there's something valuable.

Thank you for your input on this. When I talked about the draw strings on the pack it is a small pack and I thought I would tie a knot in the strings and then put the ends with the loops through the wire on the basket and then put a small pad lock on it. I would only want to put things like my poncho and maybe a sweatshirt and maybe a an extra pair of socks in case I got my feet wet. I would never leave anything of great value, but I wouldn't want to pack those things around on each ride if I could figure out a way to keep them fairly safe. As far as cutting the strings, are knives allowed in the parks? Just curious. I have never tried to bring one in, but I would think that would be something that they would check for.

if all you have in the bag is a poncho, socks, and a sweat shirt in your bag I would not lock it the region is with a lock there looks like there is something of great value and region too steal. you can get a poncho for I think around $5 they sell socks for around $15 and they do sell sweat shirt for around $45 so if your bag got stolen you can replace every thing and more then likely ( I really would not want to test this out, but knowing how Disney is) they would replace it for you if you reported that someone stole your stuff. My friend leaves a bag in here ECV all the time, it has out things that if they walked a way we could replace at the park, things that are not that big of a deal. like rain poncho, some food, a towel, things like this.

as fair as if knives are allowed in the park this is a yes and no question, I know some people that carry a small ( maybe 1 in/2in) knives with them at all times they live with in an hour of Disney ( so they are there just about ever week) there have been times they have forgotten that they have there knife if there pocket and have been able to keep it. and not every one gose thought. a medal detector all the time,

I think your best bet is just put them in a bag leave them in your basket and if you feel the need to locket I would hide the lock so you can not see it so that people will not think you have something of great value that needs to be locked and needs that extra protection only to steal it and find there really is nothing of great value there.

I understand - I am one of the worst (or best?) "overprepared" people ever; my friends say I have a "Mary Poppins" complex all the time because I can pull stuff they never thought of packing out of my purse... LOL It's a curse, I swear!

However, bag check and the security lines at WDW have forced me to reign things in a bit. Instead of bringing as much with me into the Parks now, I try to only bring things I can't buy or source in the Parks or at Disney Springs. I have started creating a budget item for these things, and if I get to the end of my WDW stay and I didn't need to use that money I go on a tiny shopping spree at Disney Springs!

The bonus is that I roll into the Parks with only my MagicBand and a small bag that clears security quickly and easily; and I actually feel... lighter and freer! I have been practicing at home - trying not to carry so much "stuff" in my purse all the time - and while it's a work in progress, I am doing better! :)

We went with a stroller back in 2008 and I have accompanied my sometimes chair-bound friend to WDW a large number of times. A sack full of middling priced non-essentials would get left in our parked chariot without a second thought. Heck, often enough I'd just leave the stroller with my camera bag (not the camera) and souvenirs. Sure, there's always a risk it will get taken but not so much I would worry.

These days we padlock a cellphone into my friend's ECV when she wants to walk onto a ride. Then if the cart gets moved we can track it with my phone. They even make locator "tiles", little chips usually on a keyring that pair with your phone and let you know where they are. They can be set up to alarm if moved too far from the paired phone as well.

I think if you padlock a bag full of items to an ECV, a would-be thief might assume there is something valuable in the bag. Sort of draws attention to it!

I'd simply put your non-valuable items in a bag and put it in the basket, without a lock. Sure, you take a chance that it might get taken, but it's a small risk. I never had anything taken in my three trips using an ECV.
