Disney's CARIBBEAN BEACH RESORT Information & Questions

I called the Caribbean today to ask about the construction. The first lady I spoke with was very vague and saying she didn't have the info but told me it had already started. So, I'm thinking if you are actually there, tell me what they are currently doing! But she couldn't. I confirmed I was speaking with someone actually at CBR and so she got someone else to speak with me. That person asked when I was coming which is last week of October. She told me Old Port Royale would be under refurbishment, meaning the food court. She said they would have an alternative available. Couldn't be more specific. For those of you who have stayed here (I never have) and those more familiar with this, care to speculate any from this? What food might actually be offered? Do you think this is actually all that will be affected? Given that we are traveling with several others, and this hotel was our best agreement (compromise, whatever), I really don't want this to be a big deal! But I also know one of the families we are traveling with was going on and on about the food court so I think it may be a big deal to them. Haven't told them yet :)

They will probably setup a food court in Shutters. This is what they did at POFQ when they redid the food court there.

Shutters isn't taking reservations starting in May. Website shows no times available.

This either confirms my theory above or may mean the entire building will be shut down. So in other words @michelle06, nobody knows yet what their exact plan is.

Can you explain how this works? Would it be basically the same as it normally is just in a different location?
Thanks for answering!

Right now the Disney web site is showing no availability for anything I look up, so hoping it is just a web site issue.
Well unfortunately, it is still not showing any availability and Shutters is never completely booked this far out. It definitely says something is going to be happening at Centertown in May. Does anyone thing that the new food and beverage area currently being built in Trinidad North is actually the temporary food court?

I have now heard from 2 sources that OPR will be gutted. So far they are planning to either have a large air conditioned tent or multiple trailers set up for a food court. But of course, this is not official.

This is pretty much what my TA told me she heard from a CM friend...off the record.

The resort is a big part of our vacation experience so I am extremely unhappy about this. A moderate resort at the Fun & Sun discount but this vacation is still going to cost us over $7000. I am not paying that much to eat in a tent or out of trailers and of course the only other resort available for our dates is CSR. 1st World problems I know, but this was to be a special trip.

FYI, I was thinking for construction but two permits were just filed for trailers so maybe. I could see kitchens in trailers with tents for dining.

I guess I had just assumed the new restaurant would replace Shutters, then Shutters used as you say for food court ... while they begin the work on the building. The overlay photo that has disappeared (wish I downloaded instead of copy/paste) looked like similar building outline but honestly demo and new build is probably easier and cheaper.

Letters have gone out to CSR guests warning of the big 2 year project. I think it's just no way around a major impact to both resorts so they are just hoping for the best with bookings and powering through it. I feel for you. I am a regular and any given trip could put up with stuff since I don't spend much to travel, have APs and use resort discounts .... but honestly if they are keeping the prices as is, I will not book either of these resorts during this construction. I can't imagine if I am spending a small fortune.

The Shutters page isn't loading at all on MDE????? Other things are working fine. When are they supposed to start gutting OPR again?

ETA: Ignore my crazy! It must have been MDE because it shows now and has times for our dates in April, but since we are going late April I had a momentary freak out!

Got this in my email this morning for our late April stay

We are delighted you have chosen to stay at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort!

In an effort to continually improve the Guest experience, we often refresh our offerings and atmosphere. In preparation of your upcoming stay, we would like to make you aware of Resort refurbishment work that will be taking place during your visit.

Upon your arrival, you will notice construction work in various areas as we enhance our Resort. Noise may be heard while this work is being completed and certain pathways may be unavailable.

Additionally, Old Port Royale Food Court, Shutters at Old Port Royale, Banana Cabana Pool Bar and Calypso Trading Post will be closed for refurbishment during your stay. While we work our magic, there will be a variety of dining options available to you for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Centertown will serve breakfast and dinner and a selection of grab-and-go meals will be conveniently available for purchase in three island markets located in the Aruba, Jamaica and Martinique regions of the Resort.

We apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause and appreciate your patience. If you have questions or need assistance with your reservation, please contact your original booking agent.

Just got back yesterday. We stayed in Martinique building 26. Everyday had a weird smell when first getting in room but after awhile didn't notice it. For those who haven't stayed here when returning from parks, the bus stops are Jamaica, Aruba, Barbados, Martinique, OPR, North Trinidad, South Trinidad. We got on the buses at Martinique and got off the bus at OPR. Our room was clean. Really liked the resort. My boys 17 and 18 enjoyed the pool. We took Uber to the airport. We would have had to been on the bus at 3 am for a 7 am flight. So we scheduled uber the night before to pick us up at 5 am. He got there a little after 5 and we were at the airport in 45 minutes. We used Uber XL even though there was only four of us but with luggage and carry ons figured we would need the extra room. I will tell you that it cost $80 for Uber. Didn't mind paying the cost for extra time at the pool the night before.

Any thoughts on length of time? Will centertown be done by September? How far out will we get emails about construction?

I just got the same message, our stay is May 9-18. So much for a nice 25th anniversary trip......I have a feeling we are stuck here given the availability of other MOD resorts we can afford with the Sun and Fun discount.....perhaps time to consider off site this time. I only have RO booked, so my options are wide open to an offsite stay now.

I also got the same email this morning. I'm a bit concerned where I'm going to have breakfast before hitting the parks. It's going to be chaos at the resort, trying to get all those families fed, depending on how busy it is. Can we go over to an adjacent resort and have breakfast there? I guess it would be OK as it would be the same as eating at your own resort, but you'd have to go to the TTC first and transfer to another resort bus. It wouldn't be worth it then because you'd be 80% of the way to a park, and you could simply eat at the park.

Or maybe CBR should set up a multi-bus bridge over to the nearest resort and drop people off there to eat. Wouldn't that be easier?

I am staying at the end of May, and also got the email this morning. It says Breakfast and dinner will be available at Centertown. I have never been there before. What is Centertown and is this a reasonable accommodation?

I believe this is Centertown... it's not quite the food court that other resorts have, but given the number of fast-food outlets on the "street" it might not be so bad.
