DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Hello gents, hope all is well. For those who haven't seen on my FB, I'll share a little chuckle for you. First, context. You may remember that I work on rotation overseas in southeast Asia, I am there now, the weather is tropical, remember that. Now, go.

So, bad winter blizzard hit my hometown last night and today, 25cm/11 inches of snow, high winds caused a lot of drifting. Pretty nasty stuff and not fun to deal with. DW posts this picture on my FB.

DW: Going to be fun to shovel this!
Me: Those are some wicked peaks. I had a rough day too. A palm frond fell on the car and I had to take it off.
DW: I guess you haven't been told where to go today

Yeah, I think I may be sleeping on the couch for a night or two once I get home. Oh well, sometimes it's worth it for a good laugh.

Should be a quiet weekend up here with no basketball as DS hits exam week to end first term.
My DD has turned the basement into study central, it's just a sea of books and notes. Exams start Monday for her too. Should be a fun week.

The DW has finally agreed to 2 weeks in Disney! I argued that sucker through better than Johnny Cochrane. There were mind games. There was using all my weapons (mainly the 3 year old). She agreed ON the proviso we have a few day trips. How long is that swim from here, cause I think I'm gonna need all the dough I can save.
When your weapon is a 3 year old, it's perfectly acceptable. My wife's day trips usually involve shopping. Some extra cash would definitely come in handy.

Just for fun and to shock you gents in the south (or across the pond) here's another picture of the driveway back home today (taken from inside the garage).

I have to hand it to DW, she did a pretty good job with it. She knows how to handle a snowblower (yes, you may insert snowblower jokes here, although we may have exhausted those already!). After pics:

Happy Saturday. Did my first other job thing today - co-leading a 2nd grade first reconciliation mini retreat. Everyone survived and ate pizza, so I guess it was a good day.

I don't remember seeing that option there.

Evening boys, from a sunny but cold London. After a ton of faffing about, finally booked a trip to the World. Well the hotel and the tickets anyway. The DW has finally agreed to 2 weeks in Disney! West Ham won 3-1 away, so all is tickety boo (that's a real one) in the London branch of Disdaddery.

2 weeks sounds fun. When are you going?

Way to antagonize and taunt your wife. I'm sure that will go over well when you return home.

I don't think we can make snow blower jokes about your wife. There's some type of guy code or Disdad code.

You know you are old when you go to the movies and the punk behind the counter automatically gives you a senior discount. Saw Hidden Figures, very good movie.

Hope you all have a good one.

So far so good. Some winter cleaning upstairs tomorrow but plan to be done with it well before the games. Hopes are for the Pack and Steelers. Glad you are are having a quiet weekend.

After a ton of faffing about, finally booked a trip to the World.

Congratulations, let the planning begin.

We have no choice in the matter. The littlest one demands it. Non-negotiable.

Been there. She wouldn't even be distracted by the chance to get a Mickey bar.

Something similar happened to my Brit friend. He was on the phone with his wife and she asked him what was the background noise. "Oh nothing, just the breeze blowing though the palm trees." She was dealing with snow in the UK. Oops.

Very good job. You owe her, maybe bring one of those umbrellas they put in tropical drinks?

Happy Saturday. Did my first other job thing today - co-leading a 2nd grade first reconciliation mini retreat. Everyone survived and ate pizza, so I guess it was a good day.

Sounds like a win to me. The pizza is a bonus.

My wife's day trips usually involve shopping.
Me and you both brother. I work in one of the world most luxurious shops, where I get a very reasonable discount, yet she still finds gear to buy.

We ended up in the Poly Club Level, they were offering 4 nights for free.
For those who haven't seen on my FB, I'll share a little chuckle for you
I was chuckling last night, erred on the side of caution in not commenting so as not to inflame the situation further. But I agree with Darcy, that was a "she'll calm down after a few days" special.

That would shut us down for a week.

There are indeed. Wives are to be referred to by others as "The Saintly Mrs (insert surname or disdad name)
Everyone survived and ate pizza, so I guess it was a good day.
Norm for the win!

Running, Cinema, Homework for the 6 year old and doing that thing where you try and link your reservation to MDE when you really know its not going to be there yet. Oh and the early game tonight. Have a great Sunday fellas from a -3 London.

We ended up in the Poly Club Level, they were offering 4 nights for free.

Very nice! How many nights total?

We stayed at Poly Club level once. We were suppose to be at AKL with a Savannah View for the last 3 days of a split stay but that was when they were building the DVC resort. People had been complaining about the construction so they started to move people to other resorts, mostly Saratoga Springs. We didn't want to go there so we said we wanted the Poly, which they granted. When we checked in, there was a mess up and they tried to charge us more money, saying we still owed on the package. After 20 minutes of discussion they realized their error and checked us in. They then asked for the keys back, when I asked why they said they wouldn't work where we were going. At his point I was really confused because the cards looked like every other card at every resort we had stayed at. It was at this point they explained that we had been upgraded to Club level. It was amazing and I think we had one of the best views in the World.

We were on the 3rd floor overlooking the lagoon and could see everything. Even recorded the Pirates and Princesses Fireworks Show from the balcony.

Morning gents. Another day... another day at work. Not much else new.

Please. I've seen enough of that already. Looks all too familiar.

Happy Saturday. Did my first other job thing today - co-leading a 2nd grade first reconciliation mini retreat. Everyone survived and ate pizza, so I guess it was a good day.

Survival is key.

I mean you, of course. Heck with the rugrats. They're resilient.

You know you are old when you go to the movies and the punk behind the counter automatically gives you a senior discount. Saw Hidden Figures, very good movie.

Well, 1. ouch, but 2. chaching!

That movie is at or near the top of my "must see" list.

It was at this point they explained that we had been upgraded to Club level. It was amazing and I think we had one of the best views in the World.
Thats nice to hear Darcy, cheers. We are there 14 nights. We kept messing around with a split stay around a beach house. We were going to do Yacht Club for 4 to hit Epcot and the studios, 6 Nights at a rented beach house, and then 4 nights at the Poly for MK. It was getting way to complicated, so with the offer we have basically saved about 2.5k on the hotel, we don't need as big a car as we only need a little shuttle about, so all in all probably looking at a 3k saving. It will let us do all the parks at a pretty leisurely pace, as well as hitting the beach a couple of times, and maybe even a visit to the dark side. We tend to visit resorts before we stay, we walked over from the GF when we stayed there last year, and thought it looked pretty cool.
Packers and Steelers. That is all.
This. Laters, chaps.

Saw Hidden Figures, very good movie.
I've heard good things about it. I'll have to try seeing it.

We ended up in the Poly Club Level, they were offering 4 nights for free.
Wow, you can't argue with a deal like that. Sounds great.

That would shut us down for a week.
It shut the city down for overnight Friday and most of Saturday. The city has so much equipment on the roads that it doesn't take too long to clear it all up. We have no choice, we get so much of the dang stuff. I know I've joked about 1/2 inch of snow, but I completely understand in a place that simply isn't used to it and doesn't have the equipment in place to deal with the clean up (or salt/brine on the roads for prevention of ice).

Please. I've seen enough of that already. Looks all too familiar.
Yes. I think we're good now. Old man winter can go away.

Saw this on FB. :lmao:

I'll grow up one day. Maybe I'll get old.

I'll pull the trigger on Poly one day. The points to stay there is just so much more than the Boardwalk.

Sorry mate. Read that as where. July 19-Aug 2.

No worries. This year, we are going first two weeks in June. Next year, it will have to be last two weeks of June. That looks like my vacation schedule for the next several years.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Thanks for the support on the wedding stress. DD is home for a couple of days here and we had a good long talk last night to try and lower the stress levels and get on the same page on some things. Went well and hopefully we can enjoy the stretch run of planning this thing.

Congrats on the trip and nice sang with Poly. We are staying there DVC villas during upcoming March visit.

:rotfl2::rotfl2:Definitely a brave man there, distance was for sure your friend on this one. Like others said, worth it and she is likely calmed down by now.

Hey, we are gonna need all the discounts we can get as we get older :sad2:

Toodly pip? My Google translater app can't figure that out. :lmao:

:rotfl:

Things are slow on the new job front, trying to get the computer people to log me on, get keys, etc. So, I really am not sure what is going on, but it is still going.

I missed the previous posts, too... congrats on the new job! Hope it works out well for you and the family. No more long commutes?

Thanks gents, appreciate the support. I first want to say the kid pretty much has her act together and we are very proud, but she is way off the reservation right now. Will try to keep this short and at a high level. Backround is that we are paying for the entire wedding, yep the whole shooting match with no effort from the grooms family. I don't care what anyone says, we are giving our daughter a wedding and therefore have a say in the thing. While appreciative, DD does not think we should have input and she can do some things she wants as it is "her wedding". I was clear up front that it is their marriage and wedding day but it is DW and mines wedding we are giving them - this is a lot of money and I do not want things done half @$$. We have not been overbearing, cheap, demanding, had to approve guest list (outside of total number) but DD has just not engaged DW into this nor incorporated any mom's likes rather deferring that the groom doesn't like that?! I don't care if he doeasn't like a lace runner on the tables if mom wants it then that should be it! There have been several things like this along the way and DW just internalizes because she don't want to make waves. One was that DD argued with DW that she wanted her in a short dress not a long dress - I stepped in and smacked DD on the head on this one with the ruling mom will wear whatever she wants for her daughters wedding. Well another item popped up with the wedding invitation in that DW changed some parts of it after we all agreed on it? When i informed DD to go back to what we all agreed upon, as the invite is from me and DW (also a debate despite paying for the ENTIRE thing) DD decided to counter with "it is my wedding and I will do what I want". Needless to say I have finally blown a cork. Everyone says, and books / articles reference that there will be stress, arguments, etc call me old fashioned but we are trying to give our daughter a great wedding and if I am shelling out this kind of coin a little compromising from DD on things we would like to have or do would be nice. We really are not paying for the wedding to control it as DD picked the place, her dress, the decor, flowers, photographer, colors, etc but when we do want something a certain way the answer should be sure that's fine. Thanks for the vent gents and there may be more as we are just about 4 months to go.

Sounds like you are being reasonable to me. Good on ya for wanting to buck up and give your daughter a beautiful wedding all taken care of! Hope the situation softens over the next weeks!

That is the way it is when they get older. She really had a good day yesterday and that is all that counts. She came home for a bit after the boat and then went to a lecture and out with the shark people. Guess that beat my suggestion of ChuckECheese. They had great luck with the tagging. A Great Hammerhead, 2 Bulls, a Nurse and a tiger, all around 8-9 footers. She secured the head on the Hammerhead and the Nurse. It was an adventure. The Nurse was a big male and he didn't want to have anything to do with the tagging. The Hammerhead they work up in the water because they are a bit fragile so she had to lean over to hold his head. Their business end is placed a little differently than other sharks and as she was grabbing she touched a tooth. Oops. Funny how she retold the story to me.

She really sounds like she's enjoying what she is doing. What a beautiful thing it is to have your kid grown up and do something they really enjoy doing! You've supported her well over the years for sure. Good job!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 That's great news! Thanks for the update. Praying for smooth sailing from here.

I can't believe it's been over 3 years since our last visit to the World for our family. I've tried talking my two women into another trip back, but they say they don't want anything more to do with Disney. Me... I'm ready to go back, but couldn't imagine going there without them. Been a mental struggle for me over the past few years... and partial reason why I don't get on the boards or the FB group much. Thanks for letting me whine a little here.

Now I need some input from my men here. The family vacation request for this year has me doing a lot of research and now I'm looking for advice/input from people I trust and have experience in this area. If you could provide any personal experience here I would greatly appreciate it!

Here are the demands in order of importance:
- Clearest, blue-est water we've ever seen and on the beach
- Caribbean. No Mexico. Preferably Puerto Rico / Virgin Islands due to passport reasons
- Prefer a resort... all inclusive if possible, but not necessary
- Golf within 20 minutes

So basically if you've had any experience in the Caribbean on the beach I'd like to hear what you have to say. Our family has not traveled together outside the USA so this is our first adventure off the range so-to-speak. I've also tried to see if a cruise would be of interest, but that has fallen flat, too. So much for adventure! lol. Thanks ahead of time!

Gawrsh! Seems like forever since I've been over here. Life just crazy sometimes and haven't been on the boards that much. Tried to read-through everything I've missed. Hope everyone is well.

Sounds like we need to have an intervention with those ladies of yours! Not wanting to go back to Disney....now that's just crazy talk! But whine away my friend. I know we keep saying it, but we really need to catch up for lunch sometime soon.
