June 2017 Disneyland Check In!!!

I should have added the caveat that it's 5 months if they don't add days on at the end of the school year. We've missed like 6 days due to snow and ice... but hopeful it's still 5 months away and won't have to be changed to August instead!
I don't care if they add days (daughter has had 8 or 9 snow days -PDX) I did tell her that she may have school after our trip. LOL Seriously though, I saw on the news something about the schools applying for a waiver from the state to not have to make up the days since this winter has been extremely out of the ordinary.

Hi! Looks like we'll be going 6/4-6/9! Just booked a 2 Queen Deluxe in Bldg. 2 at Hojo. It will be me, DH, 13 yo autisic non-verbal DS. My 15 yo DS, a trombone player, will be at Disneyland 6/5-6/7 and may be staying at BWPPI, they haven't reserved any rooms yet. We may switch to their hotel but being a planner I wanted to have a room reserved! So excited!

Uh oh....I do too. Were we on the same "side" or no?
I think we ended up on the same side once you came around ;) I'm the "use the car seat on the plane and don't rent a nasty, possibly unsafe car seat at your destination" lady.

Ah. Yep. That's what we did. And what we'll be doing this time too (had to get a new car seat for it though since he has outgrown the cheapy seat from last time.)

So who has booked airfare already? If you haven't, when do you plan to? (And anyone driving....I am jealous! I wish we could...but it's not an option this time.)

We booked our flights last week. It was good enough on Southwest that we figured we should go ahead and purchase. It was $220 total per person for decent times (i.e. not 6-7am) DAL-LAX so we booked it. Having our flights set makes it much more real!! The kids know we're for sure going and we can count it down. Only 150 more days to go!!! :cool1:

hey everyone, finally sorted my flights and hotel for my annual June trip. Staying at Desert Inn and Suites June 18 to June 21

Hi! :yay:

We will be traveling June 10-16, flying in from New Orleans. Staying at Best Western Plus Pavillions. Attending E3, Disney, and some general site-seeing. Anyone have suggestions for anything else around the area? We have one "free" day to plan, not sure what to do. My husband and myself have been to Los Angeles/Anaheim twice now, but this will be our kids first attendance with us (6 and 17 YO)

Will be in Anaheim 6/25-7/2. Renting a house with my parents and brother's family. We will also be doing universal a couple days, so haven't decided what days we will actually be in Disney yet. Getting excited already!

I bought my tickets last week. I bought them using points and I'm glad I did, because a) the WannaGetAway fares are now gone on the flights I wanted and b) the amount of points needed for the other flights has gone up by about 15% since the flights first came out.

Boy Howdy! A bunch of new people planning on a trip in June! I think I've added everyone to the list who has posted. Please excuse me if I missed you. The list is getting so long, I can't do it very easily on my phone any more, so I have to wait until I'm on an actual computer and not doing actual work. :rotfl2:

June definitely feels like it's getting closer with so many new people joining in on the planning. Let me know if you hear of anything fun happening in June. I'm trying to keep my ears open for any events (or ride openings/closings and other items of interest).

Looks like we'll be one of the few driving. From NC to Vegas to DLR, back to Vegas to NC.

thinking about booking the Park Vue or possibly springing for a night at the Disneyland hotel depending on whether they have an offer come out for my date.

I really, really love to stay on-site, but I stay off-site when I go as a chaperone for school trips with my elder DD and our family stayed at Park Vue Inn the Thanksgiving before last. It was a great motel and the location could not have been more ideal. It's so, so close to the parks. The room was very clean and the bedding and decor was much nicer than I was expecting for a motel. I would not hesitate to stay at the PVI again if we didn't want to spend the money to stay on-site.

It is our first time at Disneyland after years of Disney world.

If you haven't already, definitely read Hydroguy's thread: A DLR Guide for WDW Vets!

It will be me, DH, 13 yo autisic non-verbal DS. My 15 yo DS, a trombone player, will be at Disneyland 6/5-6/7 and may be staying at BWPPI, they haven't reserved any rooms yet.

Will your son's band be performing, taking classes, or both? My 14 yo DD, a violin player, goes with her school's music program each March. The classes at Disneyland are amazing!!! I especially like one they did last year where they were in a recording studio with a professional conductor and sight read pieces of musical scores from Disney animated movies. The conductor would work with them on the piece until they were playing it the way he wanted and then they would record them playing. At the end of the session, they played the parts of the movies with the accompanying scores - the first time they played the piece through and then the last time after working the piece. It was really amazing listening to how they sounded after working on the piece and listening to how it sounded as that part of the movie played.

The kids know we're for sure going and we can count it down.

I bought my tickets for me and my younger DD last week and she feels the same way! I think until then she was worried the trip might not happen.

Are you looking for other amusement park outings (like Knott's Berry Farm, Universal, etc.) or more educational type outings (like the Science Museum or Griffith Park Observatory)?

That's quite a drive! Oh my! How long is that going to take you? My DD and I could drive. Technically it's only a 6 hour drive. By the time we drive to the airport, go through security, wait for the plane, fly, get a ride to the hotel, it's probably about 4 1/2 hours from the time we leave the house to when we arrive at the hotel. But, even though that only saves us an hour and a half, that's not counting any stops we have to make over a six hour drive or running into LA traffic.

I can't book our flights until next month until our flight voucher activates (we get an annual companion fare with my CC on WestJet) which is a bit of a bummer because the flights that I really want have a really good price right now. Oh well just another couple of weeks until I can book them and then a couple weeks after that we'll be in Hawaii soaking up some much needed sunshine!!!

That's quite a drive! Oh my! How long is that going to take you?

It's roughly 30 hours from our place to Vegas. We typically make it in 2 long days and one short day. I'm an early riser, so we usually shoot for being on the road no later than 5am. My wife will sleep until breakfast or so. We usually do a nice sit down lunch and dinner, then stop somewhere between 6pm and 8pm for the night. I know it's not for most folks, but I-40 across the country is a pretty nice ride and it lets us bring the dogs. We'll meet up with our kids in Vegas and board the dogs there, then we'll all ride down the DLR together (about 4 hours if all goes well).

We just booked our flights a couple of days ago. The good thing is that we had enough points for all three of us (barely). June does feel much closer now that it is the new year we are almost through January already!

$220 round trip? Nice! Ours were around $200 each way last I checked. I have one more month before I can book. I am really hoping the flights don't go up much more. Maybe I can figure out some exact "back up" days for next February and then book a little sooner.

Do you know what determines when the "wanna get away" fare disappears?

We overlap at the Desert Inn for 1 day. :)

Yes, $220 round trip. We were flexible so we looked at the fare calendar and picked days with $110 flights for each way. There were even some $84 and $92 flights but they weren't direct and were really early or really late. Now, I'm not against connections or even an early flight (we took two trips last year where we had 6am flights, ugh!!), but $110 for a good time and direct was great on our account.

I'm not sure about the wanna get away fares....I feel like they don't necessarily disappear, but they just get more expensive. But I could be totally wrong! Fingers crossed you get your flights at a decent price!!!

oh cool, I will be in the parks Monday 19 and Tuesday 20. Wednesday 21 I will just be chilling at the hotel and Downtown Disney until lunch time and then heading into LA to meet friends. I see @Prof Drake is there too at the same time, maybe should arrange a mini Dis Meet Up :) ?
