I love credit cards so much!

@calypso726 Have u applied for the CSR yet? I guess going in branch, getting an preapprove letter can get u around the 5/24 rule... seems like a lot of DP confirming that. Your still in luck! lol

I lowered my credit lines with Chase in preparation, dumped $10k in the Chase checking account and went to the branch. No pre-approval but I applied anyway with the banker. Got the dreaded 7-10 day pending message. I'm waiting on the denial letter and I will have the banker call recon on my behalf. I doubt it will do any good. Fees are too high to consider the Chase private client route so I will likely hold off on apps until next August. :-(

I just went into the branch to inquire about the CSR, but there was no pre-approval on my record and the service rep recommended that I wait 3 months to apply because I just recently paid off a bunch of credit cards and improved my credit score. OK, so I got back to my desk and decided that I'd apply online anyway. Guess what...I was approved!! I just need to wait for the card to get here and then I'll book our UK tickets with it which will help tremendously with the initial required spend. I hope it gets here soon! I'm very excited about this! I feel like I've just entered a whole new world...

You can call their lending dept directly, too. It is 888-245-0625. They even helped me rearrange some spending limits to make my card line up work better and allow a quicker acceptance.

Can't hurt to ask, right?

Normally I'd be calling re-con to expedite. Since I am way past 5/24 it won't be a matter of rearranging credit lines or closing an existing card for me. It will be the "too many cards opened in last 24 months". The current school of thought is not to call recon with Chase when your're over 5/24 and let it ride on the off chance it processes through until you get the denial in writing and then call and plead your case. Worst case scenario I get the denial and recon doesn't budge when I call. Then, I wait a year to get the card. I'm willing to wait because it will give me the perfect opportunity to not only get the card but also product change my existing Sapphire Preferred to a Freedom Unlimited. Wish me luck though. Here's hoping I slip past a 5/24 denial :-)

Ah, I see. Good luck!!! :goodvibes

2-3 months is to allow the reporting dates to hit properly! Fantastic and solid advice!

We've figured out every single reporting date (statement close date) for every CC we have and we pay the balance we have in full 2-3 days prior. This gives us a continued 0-10% utiliization score.

It's all about learning the "game". Once you know the "secrets" you can, and should, use them all to your advantage.

I think I've spend more time researching this than I have spending time running my business.

Definitely go into your local Chase branch to check for pre-approval on the CSR... I am WELL over 5/24, so knew an online app would be instant denial. Just spent less than 5 minutes in Chase and, due to having pre-approval, will be receiving my new CSR soon!! SO excited!

I cannot believe I'm seriously considering driving to another state to do an in branch pre-approval check for the CSR. There are a lot of things I don't like about it, actually, but those bonus points, tho. I'll probably just have my husband apply for it. I think he's at 4/24 and 2 of those are AUs.

I just saw reports that Chase is sending out a targeted mailer offering 100K bonus on the Ink+. My husband is on a targeted list for Chase so if he gets targeted for the Ink+ and gets the CSR...I don't know how on earth we'd meet the minimum spends but that would be a hard deal to turn down.

Well, if you get the targeted offer in the mail they'll probably match it if you have the mailer code. But, it's very targeted and they're not honoring it as public so you can rest easy knowing that you didn't lose out on anything! But, really, just sit back and get used to it. There's always a better offer just after you get approved for something. It's the 2nd law of Travel Hacking. :)

I went into my local chase bank and said I wanted to apply for the reserve. I wanted this as my own card, not me being an authorized user on hubby's card. So I told her, told her our family income for last year, she asked for my ID, plugged it all in and said I was approved. Just like that. Still waiting though. Lots of folks got a UPS delivery after two days but today was two days and nothing so far. I was only 1/24 and fico 820. These rewards are awesome and undercover tourist is a travel expense so that will be a nice purchase at 3 X the points. :)

And ladies, if anyone of you is a stay at home mom, or a part time worker with a pretty low income and you don't think you can qualify for a card on your own, please know that the Consumer Financial protection bureau changed the Card Act back in April of 2013 which now says as long as you have a reasonable expectation to have access to family funds, you can apply for your own card. This was a huge and wonderful thing for homemakers. I tell all of my homemaker clients to get their own card in the event something should happen and they end up in a tough spot as a single woman.

Not sure if it's best use but there are Alaska non stops from SEA to MCO if you can make the connecting flights work. I think it leaves sea at 8 something am and gets back at 10 something pm.

Otherwise I would look to see what other airlines connect to another hub from there.

Are you in Spokane or Yakima? Too far to drive to SeaTac?

This is probably a stupid question, but I rarely used credit cards for everyday spending. When trying to meet the $4000 minimum for CSR, may I pay my balance off weekly, rather than wait for the statement closing? Or will this somehow affect how they look at my minimum spend?

Tri-Cities (Richland). And it's never too far but going over Snoqualmie Pass during December is a crap shoot.

Always remember "spend" does not equal "pay"!! As long as you spend the money you'll hit that $4k mark. We always pay off our CC balance before statement close. Still accumulate the points!! :hippie:

Thanks so much! I would kick myself if I did something dumb like pay early, and it delayed my points! Good to know there is no penalty for paying early.

UR gives u access to SW and UA.

SW, depending on date is around 35k each way... UA, ive found some at 12.5k each way... UA is probably the way to go...

I know the question was answered but I thought I'd add to the pp's answer. I never wait for the statement to close on any of my cards and pay them off here and there and in full before the statement closes. I have always received the bonus for the spend.

Personally, I only use credit cards for regular spend and never use cash. Cash pays me nothing for using it. Credit cards pay me for using them. Now, I do treat my credit card spending as if it is cash and don't carry balances. :-)

We do the same as we pay from various sources (checking, savings, etc). As noted, the Bonus Points are awarded after reaching the $4k spend, not payment of the outstanding balance.

It was quite a paradigm shift for me to use cc's this way. I was brought up "old school" that credit cards were only for travel and emergencies. How foolish I was.

I now use the cc's to pay for everything I can that doesn't incur a transaction fee: groceries, insurance payments, membership dues, etc. They all rack up points and as long I pay off without carrying a balance, I can use someone else's money and get value from the loan! Woohoo!:smooth:
