The traditional "end of summer" Labor Day weekend is coming up and I am wondering if any of you DIS campers are going to be taking those campers/tents/rv's out for the long Labor Day weekend. I am down here in the southeast and always on the lookout for new camping places close to me but I would love to see where everyone else is headed.

Personally I have a little Corps of Engineer campground scheduled less than an hour from the house for us and our Aliner. It's on a river, has a wooden deck, and is a beautiful water view. It's only $24 a night and I am bringing the satellite dish and tv/DTV receiver to spend a 4-night weekend (yes, arriving Thursday) watching college football, maybe jumping in the river, grilling burgers, having family in, and relaxing.

(oh and training for the stupid WDW marathon in January, dammit).

I'll post more later but who else is headed out and where are you going? :car:

I have reservations for 3 days in Hannibal, Mo. The home town of Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens. There is a lot of history and things around the Mark Twain tourism. On the banks of the Mississippi.

Hopefully we will be going. Truck threw a check engine light on the way home from work tonight. It says its the DEF injector pump, but a coolant temp sensor is acting weird since our trip home from the Smokies. The fan clutch is staying engaged. It's controlled by this temp sensor. I bought a new sensor, but haven't had a chance to put it in. I'll do that tomorrow and see if the injector error goes away. If not, I'll likely call the dealer. The pump is part of the emissions and should be covered for 100,000 miles.

I wouldn't worry about the DEF injector except when the engine light came on, it pulled power (turbo boost).

Headed to Normandy Farms camp resort in Foxborough, MA for the Fri-Mon. Very hard to get holiday weekend ressie unless you book way out, but lucked into this open spot with a daily check...been wanting to try it out...looks very nice. Of course, for the first time since I started at my current job 4 1/2 years ago I ended up being scheduled to do a flight on one of the holiday weekends...so I have to leave Sunday late morning for airport and will get back to campground to pack up Monday around check out time. Wife and boys will stay. At least I have Friday to Sunday morning to check it out. All ready booked site for next Labor Day there (I had done that before finding this opening for this year). So, if we like it, will keep next year on books.

Ed, you must be going to Jennings Ferry?? That is such a beautiful, quiet place to relax, and the sites are A-1. We have camped there a couple nights a few times. Really nice with spacious, paved sites - unusual in a Core campground (to us anyway). Have a great, relaxing weekend!

We've also reached that 'magical' number in age to have the 'Card' that gets you half price at Federal/National campgrounds/parks!! Might as well get some 'perks'! :D

Actually, North of Mouse, I'll be at Deerlick Creek which is also along the Black Warrior River but up near Tuscaloosa. It's "upriver" from Jennings Ferry and closer to home.

Oh, I've considered it. If it wasn't for the cost of everything (pipe and programmer) I'd consider it. It also depends on how much the dealer decides this will cost. 1st time the truck has been to a dealer in 6 year and 91,000 miles, except for a computer flash to cover some recall thing.

Hubby and I will be tent camping in Wharton State Forest in southern NJ. We are doing an overnight kayak trip. Paddling about 5 miles to the campground, setting up the site, then the next day paddling another 5 miles to our pickup spot. It's very remote and very peaceful. And very primitive.

I have a truck update.

Reset the check engine light and put in a new coolant temp sensor. Good news is, clearing the codes gave the truck it's power back. Bad news is the temp sensor didn't fix the fan clutch. The fan clutch isn't a huge deal. It just means the fan stays engaged all the time. Other than the noise at higher rpm and a slight hit to fuel mileage, its not anything that will prevent me from going camping. The clutch is $250 and about 4 hours of work. Still better than replacing a transmission clutch on a race car, on the paddock at the race track.

I made an appointment with the dealer for Tuesday. I'm taking the truck to work tomorrow. If it still runs ok, I'll cancel. If the light comes back on, I'll have to take it in and see what that will cost me.

We are heading out with another family for our annual trip to Hidden Ridge RV Resort near Martin MI. It' about 1/2 way between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.
It's about a 3 hour ride. It's a really nice place, very friendly and lots of activities for kids and adults.

Unfortunately nowhere this labor day. DW had a couple of surgeries the last 3 weeks and on top of that I got run down and dehydrated, (a bag of fluid in the ER is your friend) so we are taking the long weekend to just chill. Have a site for Sept 9, like bama ed, take the dish, receiver and my bigger tv, set everything up outside and watch football all day!

Looks like we should be able to make the Hannibal trip. Dropped the truck at the dealer this morning to have the engine light and loss of power checked out. DEF injector is dead. And I'm 6 months out of warranty for it. $700 later, I should be back on the road. He said it should be fixed tomorrow or Thursday morning.

Bring bug spray, the mosquitos have been bad this year for some reason in this area. Its hard to stand for a couple of minutes outside my house at night.

....and here comes Hermine to crash (possibly...but more possibly than I would like at moment)....the northeast Labor Day fun....

Truck is back from the dealer and trailer is attached sitting in the driveway! $1200 and all is well. The fan clutch decided to give up on the way home from the Smokies. They only wanted an extra $450 to replace it. Best I could find one online was $244 and they are a pain to do. Dealer got the pleasure and a little more of my money, but I'm good for the long weekend.

I'll post pics when we get there.

Not a happy camper right now. >:( I have paddled in the rain. I have tent camped in rain and thunderstorms. I think I have to draw the line at paddling 12 miles and tent camping in a tropical storm.
This happened to us last year too- Our first overnight trip had to be postponed due to a severe storm with straight-line winds that knocked out power and closed down the state parks for days. It just sucks bc it so so late in the season that I don't think we can do it another weekend. :(

Jim, glad to hear you got your truck back.

Mummer, sorry if the weather doesn't cooperate for you this weekend.

I rolled in today and set up by myself slow but sure. The Aliner is not the issue. Putting up the EZ up by myself (spreading the spider frame open without breaking ANOTHER strut) and setting up the satellite dish and getting it aligned requires a steady pace.

Here is my site on my poor little Corps of Engineers campground with the river in the back. The dam is within earshot over to the right.

Here is the view post-setup. I'm going to put the EZ up over the deck/tv once I get someone out here to help me lift it. Still pretty empty around me.

I am ready for 4 days of college football. DW will join me soon plus we are going to have a family hamburger cookout with the kids coming in.

Oh and i also have something else to spend my time on while I am here till Monday.

I keep hoping tiggerdad, flametamr, or southalabama5er are going to come walking up and help me put it together. But I'm going to have to cover it when my Type A DD comes on Sunday (those of you who followed my posts in the January 2016 Trip Thread might remember why).

Bama Ed

PS - Little rain shower passing by now to drop the temps for tomorrrow. Good piece of plastic covers the tv and receiver. AC in the Aliner feels good but I am going to try to spend as much time outside as possible.

Ed that some sweet site you got yourself there. we had hoped to get away only work and other things got in the way

Ed,

Nice setup and great site. I'd swing down and help with the puzzle, but you are 8 hours away. If you want to pack up and head to Hannibal...

I bought an HD DirecTV antenna. Just finished wiring in the SWiM switch and power inserter. I'll be taking the HD DVR and Genies from the house. My poor old SD boxes look pretty bad on the bigger TVs in the new trailer. Hopefully I don't have as much trouble aligning this one as Randy did at GSP.
