Marathon Weekend 2025

@XoxoAmy and @The Expert, I 100% agree!! A trip to HS would not be complete without that salad. During covid I looked up the recipe and we made it at home to the best of my abilities, but nothing compares to the HBD Cobb Salad. I won't even look at another Cobb salad. I didn't get to experience this salad until we did a VIP Day of Thrills tour which included lunch at the HBD. I had the salad as an appetizer as recommended by our guide and that was it, I fell head over heals for it! I am not sure if we are going to HS this summer, but if we are, I will be there for my cobb!

Today's run harassment was brought to you by the car of guys that rolled down their window to shout at me. I started to get nervous as I approached their car at a stop light, but thankfully it changed and they drove off. After reading about the Montreal policy, I thought about looking into one in my area. Then my mind started going through how a case like that would even be prosecuted or ticketed? Something I will continue to ponder on some of my runs...

When I'm out running and hear someone shout something at me, most of the time I'm not sure if it is encouragement or harassment, so I try to assume the former. (And on occasion later had someone tell me "I say you out running and honked" which made me glad I didn't do any rude gestures....). But it is for that reason that I don't try to shout any encouragement to anyone that I see out running when I'm in the car, particularly if the runner is female. I may put a thumbs-up out the window, but otherwise nothing.

I've heard others on this board talk of some blatant and ugly run harassment, of which I would not deal well with gracefully. My biggest problem on the neighborhood runs are the people who roll through stop signs, if not blatantly go through without slowing down at all. I was passing by one afternoon when the police where patrolling for that and shouted a "thank you" as they pulled someone over. That was enough for everyone else on the sidewalk to chime in their appreciation.

Be safe out there.

I love this! I’ve always wanted to try Garden Grill, but usually go to Epcot during festivals and want to eat at the food booths. With no festival going on I wouldn’t feel like I was missing out on food booths and would be hungry enough for a big meal! I don’t know if I’d make it until dinner though… 😂
Booths are awesome! I always have grand plans of festival booth hopping and then realize I'm too tired/hot/cranky/whatever and just need a guaranteed seat for my butt 😁

After our Ragnar races, my friends and I had to remember to not shout to other runners or ring our cowbells. All of that is encouraged in Ragnar, but then again your team vans are pretty distinguishable and you know who is running the race. That being said, as a woman, it just is different when you are shouted at or honked at. Best to just give runners space both with your car and with comments or gestures.

It has been a long time since I have been with a running group and DH and I usually train together, but I am thinking about joining one for a few runs here and there. I also really love virtual groups like you all!

Oh on Friday, I went out for about 4.25 miles and I was at a 9:33 min/mile pace with my RWR! It felt amazing! Today was warmer, but for 4.50 miles I managed a 9:50 pace with RWR. It was a good 10+ degrees warmer between Friday's run and today's so I kept telling myself it was ok to slow down. These paces are good for my new running phase of life.

SAFD: My usual post race tradition is to get the grapefruit cake at Hollywood Brown Derby (usually with an espresso martini). I'm very much a chocolate person, but this grapefruit cake is probably the best dessert I've ever had. Anywhere. I love it so much. I try to get a reservation at HBD but if I can't I go to the HBD lounge right when they open at 11. If I'm hungry I'll also get the famous cobb salad - it's so good.
The lounge at HBD is a favorite of ours. We go for cocktails, Cobb salad and Grapefruit Cake regularly!

SAFD: This year after the marathon we went to Steakhouse 71 for lunch. The stack house burger and a twisted fig were absolute perfection! My first marathon we ate at Hoop Dee Doo but I couldn’t stomach the chicken. It’s usually a favorite but it wasn’t hitting that day.

When we do the HM as our big race, we tend to “celebrate” with a Whispering Canyon breakfast.

SAFD:

A little late…. But this weekend has been one of celebration as my oldest just graduated from MSU and has been excepted into Grad School! Making us both alumni of MSU and me feeling very old! But it was a wonderful weekend that spread right into Monday; that’s how you know it has been a good weekend! Ok, parental brag is over.

For the past few years our celebratory meal at the end of Dopey has been Boma. On Sunday nights they serve my favorite stew, amongst so many other delicious items! I eat way too much and always finish it off with multi Zebra Domes; they are fantastic!!! Then we sit outside for a bit to watch the animals before heading back to our resort with tired legs and full bellies!

It kills me they are still closed on Sundays and Mondays!
Right?! Add this as a reason for moving our celebration to November, we usually stay Wednesday to Wednesday for Wine and Dine as opposed to Tues to Tues for MW. Love the queens room but now are thrilled to find the main room is basically the same with the table being yours for the night and the option to add on the extras.

Peeked at the DVC availability this morning for studios during MW (Wednesday-Monday) , and it's WILD. SSR (preferred) and AKV-K are the only places with full availability still. I decided I needed to quite waiting, and changed our reservation for SSR since BIL/SIL are coming down to join us, and standard 2br lock-offs are already booked up there. We wanted preferred anyway, but the fact that a category of 2br at SARATOGA is already gone, well before the 7mo mark, is crazy.

Hopping in late, my husband and I in for Dopey. We ran in it 2017 and again last year. I'm getting ready to retire from the military, so looking forward to being more active in the Run Disney season (he's still active so I'm dragging my oldest to Wine and Dine.)

SAFD: We ate at Le Cellier last year and it was great, but a very long walk to get to! I don't remember what we ate in 2017, I just remember being so tired.

Congratulations on your near retirement and thank you for your and your husband's service! My dad served and both my brother-in-laws serve.

After reflecting on post-race celebrations, I'm considering doing a post-race massage after the Princess half at GF, then hopping the Monorail to go to the Poly and checking out Captain Cooks and getting a Dole Whip. Anyone been to Captain Cooks? I've never been inside the Poly and figure post-half would be good for some resort hopping to keep my legs moving.

When staying at the VGF, we often place an order from Captain Cook's for our daughter. The tonga toast there is the same as Kona cafe, but cheaper. Well I guess not totally the same because there are not the little extras, but still, it is a great meal that she looks forward to. I really like the Poly and the lobby and the main store are quite nice. You could walk there from GF if you want to stretch those legs a bit more or you could also take the boat. I think it still goes from MK to GF to Poly.

SAFD: I'm also solo during running trips. This past year I did the fireworks dessert party at Magic Kingdom and I loved it so much I am going to try and do it again this year. There were lots of other runners who were friendly, and willing to take pictures etc. Unlike the desert party in California Adventure where you can only have two drinks and you get a tray with your food already portioned, it's a buffet at WDW. Lots of fruits, crackers and cheeses in addition to all the sweet treats.

I love captain cooks! The Tonga toast for breakfast is delicious and for lunch/dinner the noodles & vegetables and burgers are my go tos! The inside of the poly is beautiful. Would also recommend stopping at Kona Island for a coffee!

I have been watching availability too... hoping to switch at 7 months.... so far Cabins at Copper Creek are still good but yeah soo much is already booked up. I have Jumbo at AKL as my backup and it is all booked already too which is a little crazy.
