I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

Got a Chase offer for $8 off a $12 AARP membership (auto-renewal). I have read some blogs about pairing this AARP discount with a Chase discount to buy cheap British Airway flights and then upgrade those flights.

IDK if I'll bite. Anyone find AARP membership worth $4-8?
I would for the car rental discounts and the 10% off at Auntie Anne's Pretzels. Inow have to go look and see if I've got it that offer.

ETA: I had the offer and signed up, even though I'm only 41.

A question on the Amex Plat Saks $50 credit. I purchased a $75 item (a Zwilling pan) online almost a month ago. I got the shipping notification a few days later and got the $50 credit almost immediately. Problem is -- the pan never actually shipped (the tracking just says the label was printed, no estimated delivery). So I submitted a question about it at the Saks website. Today I get an email saying that I was issued a refund.

I really WANTED the damn pan. Trying to decide if I should quickly order something else from Saks or just wait and see if they claw it back? Either way works (though the pan is no longer available obvs), I just don't want AMEX to get annoyed -- was NOT trying to pull a fast one for the $50!
I have had multiple returns with Saks and I always order something else. I don’t want a surprise bill from Amex a year from now clawing the credits back like they did with Dell that one year 🙄

Soooo not quick or painless for me. It took over 25 minutes of me respelling my name (which is Amy Porter, NOT too hard) address, AND email. In fact I respelt my email about 10 times. I said @aol.com, she said @yahoo.com? Then came back with @eola.com? She says she sent the letter, and I haven't gotten it. She says it can take 24 hours. I'm thinking I just need to call back and ask again. UGH! She had everything wrong everytime she would repeat the info!
Oh man! How frustrating. Just shows how much the representative you’re speaking with can make such a difference. Sorry this was your experience. I guess I’m lucky mine went so smoothly. Hopefully you can get it sorted easily.

My biggest problem is forgetting them! I have one more 5 off 10 food offer and DD is making dinner tonight and I can't drive today since I had a procedure earlier that required anesthesia. It expires today! I'm considering door dashing some Panera cookies or something (that I don't need to be eating!).

Replying to myself:

I loaded $10 to my Starbucks card which I rarely use. I may be off on this but I seem to be remembering someone saying it worked.

It also worked for me on a door dash order earlier this month. DD said order ice cream. Baskin Robbins, but I'll just sit and eat it til it's gone - as will she!

Here's another Chase tip: you may already know about this but I'll post anyway. I have 8 cards total so every so often I fill out the form and check to see if there is anything useful there. Sometimes it is UR's. These are called 'spend offers' and are in addition to other offers or regular rewards on your chase cards. It's also a reason for keeping certain no fee cards.

Your offer is activated.

From January 15 to March 31, 2023 you’ll earn 5X total Bonus Points on:

  • Gas station purchases
  • Grocery store purchases
  • Internet, cable and phone services
This offer is valid for every $1 you spend on up to $1,500 in combined purchases made with your World of Hyatt Credit Card.*

I get 5% on gas Jan til end of March using my Hyatt card.
Is it the form you linked? And it gives different offers? Definitely did not know about that! I tried it for my CSP and a SW card but it said nothing eligible.

Are there any CB sites that ever work on Disney travel? Figured I'd ask before I drop a ton of money on final cruise payments for my whole family (they'll pay me back but its for three rooms).

My dd and I are headed to London and Paris for her graduation trip this May. I have our flights into London booked via AirFrance and back home from Paris via AA, all booked with points. Our hotels in each city are booked, also via through Hyatt and the Cap1 Portal. (Yay!) I have been working on itineraries and the next thing I need to book was the Eurostar from London to Paris. Yikes! I should definitely have factored those costs when planning the trip and booking hotels. Because now we don't have much flexibility and the prices are high! $414. Much more than I had budgeted.

Anyone have any tips for utilizing points or getting a discount? I read online that you could transfer AMEX points to Club Eurocar but I don't actually see that as a travel partner, so maybe that is not available to the US? Or it was just bad info.

It might actually be cheaper to fly at this point but we were kind of looking forward to the train, so trying to make that work. I do still have 125,000ish URs that I was planning to cash out to cover our various activities for this trip, just didn't anticipate spending so much of it on the train!

Any ideas? Or do I just need to suck it up and pay it?

Thanks!
Sounds like we are taking very similar trips in May. I was also surprised by the Eurostar prices. It would definitely be cheaper for us to fly, but the Eurostar is kind of a bucket list thing for me. I don't have any info on ways to use points to do it, but I think I'm going to open a new checking account with a bonus to help offset the cost.

I do. They have a rewards thing where you earn points for watching videos, doing quizzes, etc. You can also earn points for exercise by linking a fitness tracker. Redemption options change often and aren't fantastic, but I've been able to get a bunch of random $5 GCs. AARP is also on capital one shopping and other portals.

I had so many of those offers, I will be all set for donuts for awhile LOL.
Now if they would credit...
I'll probably regret it, but I didn't use all mine because I wasn't confident they would credit. I wish they would be more consistent with their emails so I'd know if something actually triggered the offer.

Not that I am aware of. However, you can pay your Disney cruise with Disney gift cards. You can buy DGCs at a discounted rate through Sam’s or BJs and save a little cash that way. You could purchase DGCs at Staples or Office Max/Depot with a CIC for 5x on the dollar. You can purchase Disney GCs at a grocery store for 4x with an Amex gold, 3x with a Citi Premier, 6x with an Amex blue cash. You could purchase DGCs for 3x with a Chase Flex at Walgreens or CVS. You can always redeem your extra points earned for cash if that works for you.

Chiming in- Target Redcard is 5% off, too. I know that's a card a lot of folks have...

Or, if you have both a CIC and Sam's/BJs, buy the fee free Mastercards at Staples this week for the 5x, then use them to buy the discounted GCs at your warehouse club to stack the savings.

Thank you! We’re taking a quick Disney trip in a month so the GCs I have are earmarked for tickets and expenses.

My husband just got an Amex platinum so I’ll definitely look into that one.

I think the best I can do will be 2x on my CSP.

So probably a dumb question, but I had the original SPG Amex that was then converted to the Bonvoy Amex. What is it considered now? I see the Bevy and Brilliant online but don’t see one without a “sub heading,” and my card is old so it has nothing besides “Marriott Bonvoy” on it.

I found this online that may be helpful: https://thepointsguy.com/credit-cards/hotel/marriott/eligibility-chart-marriott-bonvoy-cards/ Looks like your card remains the same since you were grandfathered in.

As a refresher, here’s how the SPG Amex cards converted to Bonvoy Amex names:
  • The Starwood Preferred Guest Card from American Express became the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card (no longer open to new applicants).
  • The Starwood Preferred Guest Luxury Card from American Express became the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card.
  • The Starwood Preferred Guest Business Card from American Express became the Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card.

Unless you're only doing 1 or 2 day tickets, they're cheaper through Undercover Tourist (and can't use Disney GC).

Just for future reference if you do another Disney cruise, you can get about 6-7% back in Costco Cash if you go through them.
