***The Official AKV Owners And Lovers Thread***. Come And Chat

Mattress topper and extra blankets are your friend when it comes to sleeping on those couches.
Sometimes the resorts have them in a storage room, but it seems that during the shut down their mattress toppers were tossed. Not sure if they have any back in stock (they were usually the ones left behind by others who brought them or had them delivered)
Thanks for these tips. What is the best way to check on any available mattress toppers once we arrive - I assume we could ask the front desk or guest services?

Call housekeeping from your room. Most of the time they will understand what you are talking about, but sometimes they need to send the housekeeper to you to find out.

I know this has probably been asked a million times already, but how bad are the sofa beds really? We have a studio booked and are planning on our 3.5 year old sleeping on the pullout couch but I’m sure he won’t want to sleep on it alone and I’ll end up there with him? I’m trying to decide if I want to stick it out for four nights at AKV on the couch or drop on night and add a night onto our RIV portion of our split stay.

For adults, they're not comfortable unless a mattress topper is added. AKV-Jambo claimed to have no mattress toppers available on our last visit (dec '22), they tossed all the ones left behind by other guests when Covid gave them time to clear out the storage room. I suspect in time they'll build an inventory back up.

With young children I always found they preferred when I made their bed up as a special, safe spot. I did this by making a bed out of cushions on the floor with a canopy. Thre are better options these days ... such as adding child's bed tent into your luggage, it would not only provide that nest-like feel but would keep her from rolling off the edge.

Good luck!

Depends on how well you sleep. My nephews wife who can fall asleep anywhere and when there's down time (bus, boat ride etc) thought it was fine. :goodvibes
I’m a light sleeper but usually noise and lights bother me more than discomfort but I see so many people complain about them that I wonder if they are so bad that even I will be bothered.

This is posted on the WDW page for AKL-Kidani: From February 1, 2023 through September 2023, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village will be undergoing refurbishment. During this time, you may be able to see and hear construction during the daytime hours.

Is this just an update to common areas and restaurants? I didn't think rooms were on the schedule for refurb.

Probably wouldn't have booked last week, had I known there was going to be construction during my stay. ugh.

We're in a Standard View Dedicated Two Bedroom in June. From TouringPlans' website, it looks like some of those rooms are situated directly over the two designated smoking areas at the resort. We requested to be close to the lobby, but we don't want to smell smoke from our balcony. Any suggestions or tips?

Where is this info coming from? They didn’t mention anything about this at the meeting. When are they doing Jambo. Is there a room rendering?
I hope the pool isn’t being refurbished or I’m gonna wish I didn’t book an AKV stay in May.

Exterior Refurbishment of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge - Kidani Village Begins on Feb. 1, 2023

Last year, crews began refurbishing some of the buildings and structures located around Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village. The next phase of this ongoing project (which will focus on the roof of the resort) is scheduled to begin on February 1, 2023. This work is expected to continue through September 2023.

I'm not staying in Kidani this year, but wondering are Florida roofs done differently than northern ones?
Many people have a very hard time breathing around the hot tar smell. It can make some folk very ill.
Before someone says "shut the door", those smells can permeate through and there is no controlling what your adjacent neighbors do with opening their door.

Well that’s a bummer. They really need to put some focus on the rooms as well.

But AKL has thatched roofs...not sure if that's just for show and there's regular shingles underneath or something, but if it's all really thatched then I don't think tar would be an issue.
