I love credit cards so much! v5.0 - 2022 (see first page for add'l details)

Sorry.. more Capital One Venture X Questions.

I will freeze Experian prior to applying to see if that helps.

I currently have a Capital One QS card that I got before we went to Japan in 2018. Anyone know whether that helps/hurts with approval?

I can use the GE credit for my husband since I already have it (or will have it in hand in a couple weeks) and it will be nice for us both to have it IN CASE we actually get to travel internationally together in the foreseeable future.

Question on using the travel credit/Capital One travel portal: Is it pretty much the same as Chase's travel portal, i.e. don't use it because it's a pain in the rear when things get canceled, or do you find it pretty useful? Is it just like Expedia (which I only use for price comparisons and then I go straight to the actual hotel or airline)? I just want to make sure the AF is worth it before I do something stupid. (For reference, the only AF card I currently have is the CSP which I am keeping because I do have to rent a car on occasion and I like the insurance). Also the slightly higher UR redemption rate). I just want to make sure I'm going to get use out of the $300 travel credit if I am approved.

What do you all do with the miles you earn on this card? Do you book through Capital One Travel or do you transfer them to your hotel membership accounts? I am not able to find a list of hotel/flight programs that I can transfer to... I'm sure I'm just missing it somewhere. Is there a link one of you experts might be able to provide?

Sorry for all the questions.. I'm just not sure I'm ready to drop a significant AF on this card unless it's easy to take advantage of the perks.

Thank you!!!
I booked a hotel and a 1 way AA flight with my Venture X - credits in my account in days, have not flown or stayed yet. Prices same or a few $ lower than direct. I "erased" charges for a Lake Michigan ferry, Delta luggage fees, UT Park tickets, and bought excellent MLB baseball tickets for 5K points each during a summer promo. I plan to get full use of the Priority Pass and TSA benefits. I have not tried to cancel or change the things booked through the portal, so I can't weigh in on that, but its a keeper for me! I use it for 2X on everything that's not a category on another card. Orthodontist, electric bill, medical bills...

I’m very new to CSP (originally only got it to purchase my DVC contract and earn the SUB it offered). I didn’t realize the magnitude of how great a card it was when I applied! 🤦🏼‍♀️ I have been learning so much about its benefits on this thread!

Anyways here’s my question…we are going to WDW next month, I charged our SWA flights on my Chase Freedom card that we’ve had forever, not knowing that I should have charged on our new CSP for the travel coverage. I keep reading about all the flight delays and I’m a little worried, as we have a late flight. We don’t want to get stuck in the airport overnight with a toddler. All that being said, I’ve been thinking about changing our flight to an earlier time and charge the difference in price on the CSP card. If I do that, would we then be covered with the travel delay reimbursement (if it comes to needing that) even though our whole flight cost wasn’t charged on that card originally?

Switched dd’s car to Atlanta and was surprised they didn’t increase my rate. She’s in an on campus apartment so she wanted her car for grocery shopping and a part-time off campus job. Of course my mom thinks she’ll get carjacked: She didn’t seem worried when she moved me to Chicago when I was 20.

I got the Venture x in December 2021. I also had the Spark Biz from Jan or Feb 2020 when there was an insane offer for a $50,000 spend over 6 months (we have an actual biz so able to make that spend). I have since closed that card in Jan 2022 after transferring 450,000 points to my Venture x card. I was going to be a hoarder and try for 1,000,000 points by applying for another big offer Cap one biz card, but decided to get a United biz and CIU instead. I finally redeemed my $300 travel credit on a NYC hotel suite at the Manhattan Club earlier this month. My sister joined my 25 yr old son and I for 1 night and she used her Venture x $300 credit as well. Then I decided to book a 3rd night and booked thru the Cap One site. I paid using my Venture x card to get 10x the points, then when the charge showed up on my app, I erased the charge thru the “cover travel purchase” under “redeem reward miles”. I decided to erase $868 in various travel charges (plane ticket, hotel, Megabus) for 86,000 points.
When I travel with my daughter and her family, we stay at Airbnb’s (book thru Airbnb app) which code as travel so easy to erase those charges as well.
The Cap one travel site is very easy to use. I’ve even canceled hotel reservations and the credit went back to my card within 2 days. I have a flight from London City to Frankfurt in September booked through the Cap one travel site so I’ll post if I have any issues.
There are at least 16 loyalty programs you can transfer points to. Go to “redeem miles”, then “convert rewards”. I have not used this feature yet, but it looks similar to transferring UR points.
Lastly, the Priority Pass is a great card to use when you have layover time at an airport. I don’t hold any Amex Platinum cards as I can’t justify that high AF. I’ve redeemed for food credit at Dulles ($56 off the bill) and most recently La Guardia for 30 minutes in a massage chair. 😊

For the Venture card, I booked a one way flight through their portal to use the credit. I haven’t used it for anything else. I was looking at car rentals when I used it but they were wayyy high and you still had to pay a bunch. To use the points you can charge whatever travel to the card and then just erase the charge with your points. I got it for the killer bonus they offered at first I don’t know if I will keep it. I doubt it.
To make sure I am clear... you just happened to want to book a one way (as opposed to RT??) so that's what you used it for? Just want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Another one way ticket! I don't fly much but when I do it is always RT... do you mean you just paid the return using cash?

So I am clear... when you say "erase the charge" is that like the Chase "pay yourself back" for things that code as travel, correct? I've done that and it is handy.

I guess for me, because I normally stay in Best Westerns because I am cheap, is making sure I use the $300 travel credit. If I can be sure I am doing that, then I will be happy.

Thank you all so much for your help... I'm super comfortable with Chase but I think it best to lay low with them for awhile.

Yes, it is similar to PYB. A list of eligible charges to erase comes up, then you choose which ones you want to erase. But their "travel" category is more limited than Chase. I don't think parking or uber rides come up. I typically do hotel, rental car or airfare.

As far as the one ways go, there are many reasons to book one way. With Capital One, I did to use up the balance of my $300 travel credit. Sometimes we book one way on one airline, return on another. On SWA, I always do one way to make it easier to change when necessary. The only time NOT to book a one way is when using the Amex Platinum. Their insurance only works with RT. Gone are the days when you get a better fare with a roundtrip.

Thanks so much! Definitely things to consider (2 one-ways instead of a RT) the next time I book flights I have to pay for! (Lately it's just been for work so they're paying for it). I did not know that.

Does the $300 travel credit have to be used all at once, or can it be used in smaller pieces? Never mind I found it on their site that it can be used in smaller pieces!

same! I wanted to use the rest of my credit - and I used SW Rapid Rewards for my return trip. AA has already changed our flight twice, so if I need to cancel/change/rebook, it won't affect my return flight. Of course the opposite is true, if SW messes with that flight, this one isn't affected:-)

Does anyone know if Delta ever offers more than 70k bonus for their card. Once in a while
I will see this. I'm thinking more and more I might apply for the card in the future as they
seem to be opening more favorable flights from the West Coast. Thanks

This is what it looks like. If I want to erase the delta charge, just click and confirm. Credit will appear in a couple days. I also see Spin scooters on here coded as travel - in case anyone is interested.

Smaller pieces work!

In general this is true, but as always, do your own research. International flights are almost always more expensive if booked as one-ways using cash. They can sometimes be more expensive using awards too - this seems to happen more often now that the fixed price award charts are becoming less common.

Domestically, it is usually safer to book one-ways - and I generally do for the added flexibility - but I have seen instances, especially on Delta, where a RT has priced up less than 2 one-ways.

Yes, just like PYB. Also, you get a Global entry which you can use for anyone. Just pay using your Venture x. Also, Choice Privilege rewards and Wyndham rewards are travel partners you can transfer points to.

OK well thank you all for your tips... froze my Experian file and applied and was approved! Although when Capital One texted me to verify that I was the one who applied, the website errored out. I have a welcome email from them but the new card doesn't show on my Capital One login (I currently have a QS). I hope this isn't an issue!

**editing to add a question**- I assumed that both cards will now show up in my existing Capital One login but I guess I should have asked that to make sure? I know a new Chase card shows up immediately when I log in but I am not seeing the new Capital One card yet... anyone know if this is normal?

I have a DL trip coming up in early October that I need to pay for and I think the travel credit will go toward that hotel stay even though it's just a BW, so that will be nice.

Thank you all again so much!

Yes, it was as screwy flight situation and I needed one way.
I should also add, it was a Delta flight, and when Delta changed my time a few minutes, I was able to change the flight through my Delta account to a better flight for free, with no issues at all. Just got an email from Cap One telling me Delta changed my flight LOL.

Mine did not show up in my login, I had to add it after I got it.

My new cap one showed up with my other when I logged in but it took like a week after approval. Definitely not instantaneous like Chase.

Which Centric are you looking at? There are two - Mag Mile and The Loop. We stayed at the Mag Mile one using FNCs. Not a bad use for those since I struggle to use them, and a decent location, but it's just ok as hotels go. Nothing special. The PH looks nice, but of course more points. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that we stayed there in case it's the one you're considering and you have any questions. Oh, they did give us a huge suite for Globalist, but even with that it was just ok. We chose it for the location and the ability to use up our expiring FNCs and for those things it was perfect.
Thanks. We are looking at the Mag Mile location. Last time I stayed at PH with my boys. It’s only 30k points compared to 100k for PH. How was the breakfast at the Centric?

We stayed there June '21 so breakfast was complicated. One day it was order only because of Covid (but we could order anything and I remember it being good) then another morning it was a buffet (even though there was no real change in Covid) and that was good as well. So I think it was a bit wacky just because of things being complicated back then. The breakfast was good the three mornings we were there. They were also nice enough to give us a room at 7am after we flew in across the country on a red-eye, so the room was very much appreciated. The suite itself was pretty dark because there are just so many tall buildings nearby, but it worked well for us. I love PHs, but that's a lot of points compared to the Centric. We also stayed at the Westin on Michigan (biz trip) which was fine, and at the W using up some Marriott FNCs. The W was... weird.
