This weekend in Bahamas

With the storm hitting Bahamas this weekend, will Disney cancel? The three day cruise is too short to reroute. No word from Disney yet. With strong winds there is no chance the boat can dock in Nassau or Castaway.

If the storm hits the Bahamas, the cruise can be rerouted to stay near the US coast, but may not be able to port anywhere. Given that many people choose not to get off the ship in Nassau anyhow, and that inability to dock at Castaway happens several times a year, my guess is that as long as Port Canaveral is not in the path of the storm, the ship will sail but may have 1 or 2 sea days. That is just a guess, though.

Isn't that against American sea laws nowadays, to just have a "cruise to nowhere"? It's one thing if they plan to dock and can't, it's another if they say right from the start "we won't dock at any ports." Someone more knowledgeable than me can weigh in on this one, hopefully! Maybe a re-route to Key West? Or Cozumel instead?

I think in the case of storms there are exceptions or the cruise line just eats the penalty.

The little information I've been able to find on the prohibition of "cruises to nowhere" (for example: https://www.travelweekly.com/Cruise-Travel/Change-brings-end-to-cruises-to-nowhere) indicates that cruise lines may not sell passage on ships that leave from and return to the US without a foreign port. When passengers purchased this cruise, it was intended to stop in the Bahamas, and it will stop there if weather permits, so I agree with Dug720 that it should be permissible in this case.

im on this cruise too and it's fine leaving friday. my concern is coming back monday and how bad seas will be that sunday night into monday. And my flight back on monday. my wife is a teacher and school starts tuesday, so she needs to be back. if that's an issue, i'd prefer it to just cancel. i know a friend in the past was on a cruise and they stayed out to sea 2 extra days to let it clear the port.

we were all looking forward to our first ever cruise, and granted we knew there was risk in sailing in hurricane season, but what a bummer :(
My kids are so disappointed, and I am truly hoping Dorian doesn't make it to Bahamas.

Looking at the map today they've got the storm right near PC at 2AM Monday morning. I would think the Saturday Fantasy cruise will probably be okay, but the Dream that gets back Monday / departs Monday seems like there could be an issue.

based on that info you just referred to, the Dream wouldnt be able to return to Port on Monday until after the storm had passed which means it would be floating around at sea on Monday until it moves clear of the port

DH and I are booked on this too... 20th anniversary trip. We are just glad we live in FL and do not have the added stress of getting to FL and not knowing if there will be a cruise.

A friend on the same cruise called DCL yesterday and was told to expect a last-minute decision. 24-hours out or less...

We are scheduled to leave Saturday on the Fantasy. It is certainly stressful, but I went through this 2 years ago when I got canceled because of Irma. It’s deja vu for me! Ugh

The stress of sailing during hurricane season is why we stopped. We live in FL and sailed 2 weeks after Irma. The stress of wondering if we would have a house was enough, then adding what to do about the cruise, and what if another storm came... we are done. No sailing from June-November now.

I hope everyone sailing this weekend is safe first and foremost, and that if possible you still get to enjoy your vacations.

We were cancelled by Irma and are headed out again next week. This will definitely be my last try for a Sept cruise! I don't do well with the stress!

Fingers crossed that the islands stay safe and everyone can enjoy their vacations.

On the same 3-day Dream leaving Friday. From the latest projections, doesn't seem like there is any issue leaving Friday but coming back Monday doesn't look likely as of now. Of course these storms speed up, slow down, and move in unpredictable patterns all the time so all you can do is go with the flow and enjoy the trip! Of course if we ended up with an extra 1-2 sea days I PERSONALLY would not mind at all :-) but I can see why this would be an inconvenience for anyone with travel arrangements.

I was thinking the might shorten because of the difficulty getting back on Monday (potentially). I feel like they would shorten it versus have us floating out there for a couple of extra days...but what do I know?

If they shorten it, they would likely move all guests off ASAP and turn around and head out empty other than crew. And the following cruise would either be shortened or cancelled. Ships are far safer at sea than sitting at a port.
