Anywhere that sings (or just makes a big deal..) for a birthday?

We are surprising my sons with a trip in June to celebrate the older one turning 14. I would love to snag a dinner somewhere they will sing to him, or something along the lines of making a spectacle of him. He will love it.

Any ideas? We are open to any park/resort/area.

Is there an Appleby's near Lake Buena Vista?
Saw a vid of a birthday celebration there and it was definitely a spectacle;).

Please take no offense, but I really hope that no restaurant in Disney does the Red Robin type of celebration. While it might be fun for the one, I find it very annoying, loud and rude when I'm trying to enjoy my meal. I could see this totally getting out of hand at Disney too.

The good news for you is that Disney already offers a host of ways to celebrate a birthday. Here is a good list of ways;

I don’t think any Disney owned restaurants do anything more than a cupcake. So many people celebrate birthdays at Disney that if they did an over the top celebration for everyone they wouldn’t have time to serve the food.

Thanks! They did a little "thing" for my husband at Boma once upon a time (not sure how they even knew it was his birthday!)...confetti on table, signed card from the staff and characters, etc. Was not sure if there was anywhere else...my kid is an attention *****, so I would love for him to get the spiel :)

I imagine 50’s Prime Time or Whispering Canyon might incorporate a birthday into their usual banter, but I agree with others that it would get ridiculous if everyone requested a special shout out for every occasion.

50's Prime Time will do a birthday song and/or some jokes. I've witnessed some pretty funny routines. Some servers are better than others. On a visit a few months ago, the server yelled at those of us sitting at nearby tables for not being enthused enough about the birthday boy (a middle aged man). If you choose to go there, have it noted on your ADR, mention it at check-in and to the server. They may not offer a free cupcake, so be prepared to order a dessert and request a candle.

No offense taken. I would hate to see it in most restaurants, too. I was thinking, like the examples below, the places that already have a schtick, doing it. FWIW, flying my bad-parenting flag here, we typically take them to Hooter's for their birthday as they love the celebration that goes along there... way over the top. Like I said, attention-seekers. Already at a place that is over the top. I would never expect anything at a "nice" restaurant. Not even something like Chili's....

These are the two places I was wondering about, honestly. We have a Sci-Fi booked currently as he likes the car/movie-thing, but was looking at WCC and 50PTC for the schtick factor. I have no desire to get anything free, and even not getting anything acknowledged is not a big deal...I just know that if it was offered, he would eat it up.

I definitely know to not get any hopes up in WDW - anything outside the norm is a bonus.

When it was my wife's birthday at Sci-Fi, they had her stand up and the entire restaurant sang Happy Birthday to her. She was *beyond* embarrassed, but they gave her a complimentary sundae which kind of made up for it. This was some number of years ago, so I don't know if they still do it.

It is luck of the draw if they will acknowledge a birthday or other celebration at all. You cannot pay for added attention from the staff. I have had the servers at chefs de Frances sing happy birthday in French to my mom and I've had them make no mention of any celebration we had...even when we had a specialty cake delivered.

There are soooo many people celebrating at Disney that it would be non stop singing and antics in every restaurant if they did something for everyone.

I 100% agree and I would never expect anything. I should have worded it better - was looking for any place that I would have better luck at him getting the attention at. I know one of the dinner shows (used to) call out people who were celebrating birthdays...I had thought about that, but...eh, $$$ and time I do not care to spend.

Thanks, all - rethinking my course now. I wouldn't mind a fancier dinner, either, and he has shown interest, lately, in higher-end food (or at least, expanding his palate..)...

Maybe Yachtsman?

What about something like Teppan Edo in the Japan Pavilion? Or California Grill at the Contemporary Resort?

I had the experience of a life time when I was in 8th grade and got to eat at Club 33 in Disneyland with my parents, of course I had to sit through a whole dining Etiquette course first but that's another subject lol.

Not a birthday, but when we were on our honeymoon, we had it noted in every single ADR and got little touches of pixie dust in each place. At Oktoberfest/Biergarten/Whatever the restaurant in the Germany pavilion is called, the Oompa band on stage called our names, had us stand up so everyone could see us, and then sang a special drinking song for us and got everyone to applaud until we kissed (and then applaud louder!). I imagine they would sing happy birthday as a part of that entertainment if you asked for it.

[Also, at California Grill, our waiter came over and told us, "Look, I see you're on your honeymoon and I want to give you guys complimentary champagne, but my manager says I have to card you first because you look too young." So we pulled out our id's, and he said, "Great, now act surprised when we bring the champagne flutes out!" :rotfl2:]

I can tell you Le Cellier doesn't do anything except add a white chocolate "Happy Birthday" to your dessert. I didn't know this and we celebrated DD's 10th birthday there. (I'm only mentioning this because you said your son has shown interest in a fancier dinner).

Crystal Palace DD got a cupcake and some confetti and a card on our table, no singing, though. I can't say I blame WDW for not making a huge deal everywhere about people's birthdays, though. I've been to so many restaurants where one person says it's there birthday and then 5 more people say it's their birthday, too! DD has a friend who claims it's her birthday every time they go out to eat - the girl is 15 years old and the parents allow it, drives me crazy!

I would ask for id to confirm dob if I was a suspicious server, lol.
Seriously though-I can not understand ; are the parents aiding their daughters deception or are they the founders of the birthday lie?!?
