Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Reaction and Discussion *CONTAINS SPOILERS*

This was one of my main gripes - don’t set something up as a mystery just to say it never was one. And she was plenty old enough in those memories to have, well, remembered it - I was expecting a more complex explanation for why it only came back to her when she touched the lightsaber.

This, 1000%!

If you're going to write the second installment of a trilogy, it's a cheat to just throw anything you don't want to deal with out the window. I guess that's Rian Johnson putting his own stamp on Star Wars.

I'm not the biggest fan of JJ Abrams. But TFA felt like Star Wars, and TLJ did not. So I'm hopeful that Abrams can fix all this.

To balance out some of my seeming negativity, here's some things I liked about TLJ:

-Mark Hamill's understated approach to playing Luke while still carrying the movie - I thought it was some of his best work
-Some of the quiet moments (Luke-Yoda, Luke-Leia, Luke -R2, even Kylo-Rey)
-Some of the sets were gorgeous - especially that red throne room
-the creature and alien work (particularly the porgs and crystal foxes)
-the scene of the Resistance transport going into the destroyer that's completely silent
-Benicio del Toro's role - he's a great character actor and that role looked lived in
-Falcon sequences (kept thinking of the upcoming ride in SW:GE - particularly those red crystal caverns on Crait)
-BB-8 sequences (he's no R2 yet, but he's getting there)
-choreography of the fight sequences

I'm sure I could think of more, but those stick out.

I really just don’t get this love affair with the force awakens and jj abrams. Not to sound like our good ole friend lockedoutlogic (who’s gone mia lately I noticed) but force awakens was a freaking rehash. A pretty, well made rehash, but rehash. In my opinion the difference between this movie and force awakens isn’t even comparable

Agree, this one is Attack of the Clones bad. While TFA was a fun StarWars romp whose homage crossed into outright copy.

There were a lot in my theater last night. I will say that there was not a lot of clapping after the film though in my theater which is strange.

I saw the first showing last night, same theater that I saw TFA at, and the difference between the audience response at the end of the film was huge. Thunderous applause at the end of TFA and just the tiniest bit of clapping for this one. Now, the audience did go nuts during the big reveal moment with Luke towards the end. But then dead silence for what happened to him next.

I actually felt there was more “noise” in my theater this time than TFA. That could have been the group of teenagers in my theater though.

Have you guys seen the Rotten Tomatoes audience score? It’s pretty awful, despite the high critics score. Looks like this will be a pretty divisive movie.
Looks like it’s currently a 57%. With 93% for critics. That seems to match the feeling here. Half seem to have loved it and half seem not so much.

I know it’s hard to compare but when Episode 5 came out were reactions mixed like this as well? I’m sure after 4 people had certain expectations obviously not like today but you always expect a sequel to go one way or another.

So, since we are criticizing a lot of the movie on here (specifically the comedy), I would like to ask what everyone thought was the funniest moment of The Last Jedi?

Mine was...When the two porgs were around Luke's lightsaber and one started to jump on it while the lightsaber was facing the other porg. I found myself loving the porgs, but this was probably the one time where I really laughed.

My favorite porg moment was when Chewie was roasting one and they were freaking out.

I loved when it was Kylo and Luke and Luke wiped off his shoulder. That was a great moment.
