We surprised our kids when we went to WDW and had the same reaction.

Same. We woke the kids up on a school day and told them they were going to WDW instead. It freaked them out a bit.

You can't enter GCH from the front door without a hotel or restaurant reservation. You can enter via the exit from DCA or from DTD with no issues.

Does this mean that you can still exit DCA, near GRR, into the GCH property and cut through to the hotel restaurants and DTD? From all the threads talking about the new security setup, I somehow got the impression that this was no longer possible for non-GCH guests.

-GCH Front Door Entrance from Valet/Street: Restricted to GCH Guests and Reservation Holders only. No more walking through Grand for non GCH guests through the front door.
-GCH to DTD Entrance/Exit: No changes except addition of two metal detectors. Any general public can still come or go freely at any time, guests or not. PPH guests can still use this shortcut back to the PPH hotel through the Grand.
-GCH to DCA Entrance: GCH room keys still required before 11am (changed from all "resort guests"). PPH, DLH and other non GCH guests must use main gates before 11am to enter DCA. After 11am they are letting all through as usual. Policy is that it is only for GCH guests all day, practice is that they stop enforcing that at 11am. (but you can not still come in through the front door of the GCH)
-DCA to GCH Exit: Open to all to go into GCH, guests or not. PPH guests can still use this shortcut back to the PPH hotel.

Yes, I was surprised at this. Some things seem cheaper then the things we enjoyed at the Spring Food and Wine!

Wild guess but probably gingerbread flavored.

I think it has been Candy Cane for the last couple of years so gingerbread would make a change. Would love for them to bring back the lemon flavoured ones from the POTC 50th celebration. Not a holiday flavour but they were the best ever.

Sad to say that my very first Christmas time trip was postponed to January 8th. My dad has a medical emergency where he’s been on life support for 4 days now. I can’t imagine leaving next week for our trip even if he does wake up. Looks like I’ll have to try again next year. Hopefully the calm before the Star Wars Land storm.
