DD has infected her husband with the Disney bug... They are now planning a trip for their family for Fall of 2018. They have dd - will be 7 yrs and DS who will be 4 at time of the trip. We just got back from a week at AoA resort. SIL and GS stayed home but now want to go next year... We had a great week with DD and DGD.

My question is should we book two connecting rooms at pop as one account or we each handle our own reservations? probably taking same flights and staying same dates? although my wife and I could stretch it out to two weeks?? but not likely

We have had some great multi-generation trips with separate reservations and connecting rooms. It is nice at the end of the day for each family to have their space, and you can always open the doors if you both choose to. You can't guarantee that you will get connecting rooms, but they will try. Be sure that you both note that you are "traveling with" the other party on your reservations and make the connecting room request and Disney will do their best. Have a great time!

You should each book your own reservations under your own MDE accounts.

We've traveled with our adult children and grandchildren and have always used two separate MDE accounts. There may be a time when they will want to plan trips on their own. If they have their own account now then those MagicBands will stay with them for all future trips. They will also be able to manage their trips without having to use your log in and password to access their reservations. If you simply add them to your MDE account then you will be in charge of all aspects of the trip.

You can request connecting rooms even if you have two separate accounts. You just ask the CM to link the reservations as a party traveling together. We had done it several times. :)

Thanks for the reply... Hadn't thought of handling their own MDE accounts... My DD has now joined DIS and is lurking around somewhere, now she can manage her own account.
Have to look into the fast pass aspect... can those be linked together? or do I have to coordinate with their MDE account for FP times?

DD here :)
Interesting...could see going either way on the MDE accounts.... the big question is fast passes. How will we time them together if not an the same account? I used the MDE App, on my phone, during our last trip to change/check fast passes and wait times but didn't use it for anything else. What else is MDE used for?

While i'm here, Dad - is there a way to make it so I see/get notified whenever you post? Still getting the hang of this... my turn to delve in and do some research/planning....

You would add the people on the other MDE to your contacts list as family and friends who share all plans. Once you are properly linked you will be able to see their tickets. Once you can see their tickets you will be able to make fastpasses for everyone when your fp window opens.:)
