Amazed and Disappointed

The most used defense in the shortened hours is that demand must not be there.

But when we see reports of large crowds post 10PM, I think we can all call BS on that.

There's really no valid excuse to close at 10.

Unless it's to groom the consumer and then upsell it...

I'm more cynical before noon

Coming soon.... E-Ride Nights 2.0

After reading all the posts from people that have just been, another major problem seems to be with 10pm closings and no night parade, pretty much everyone is leaving in the same 30 minute window.
With an 11pm closing and fireworks at 9 followed by the 9:30 or 10 MSEP don't remember what time is was, you had people leaving in several big groups rather than 1. A large mass would leave after fireworks, then another large mass after the parade and then another one at park closure.
I bet the strain on the monorail, ferrys and resort buses is pretty brutal with everyone leaving at around the same time.

Exactly. Never, not even during Christmas week have I seen a mass Exodus out of a park like MK has been every night we've been there. Which has been five nights in the last week. The strain on all the transportation options is horrible. This was poor planning to say the least. They could alleviate the nightmare for their guests and castmembers by extending an hour but they've refused. Epcot and Studios aren't so bad. MK and AK are packed all day and night.

Thats so they can get you to use the minnie van service. Not that I exactly understand the allure as 20 dollars for a mini van versus at most 13 dollars for an uber doesn't sound like a good deal.

Right. It's the conspiracy theorists or the "Disney is out to gouge us" folks that I disagree with. It does matter that Disney is a business. They have no reason to offer stuff that doesn't make any sense to their bottom line. Leaving the park open until 3 when there may be only a few people in the park at all after midnight makes no financial sense. I get being disappointed but I don't get teeth gnashing and howling in threads like this.
Agreed.

Really? Because that seems to be pretty normal to me. Fireworks, then a mass exodus out of the park.

I was at MK for 10pm closing three nights between July 6-13. One thing I noted was an unusually large number of people who either simply didn't want to go yet or had decided to linger so as to avoid exiting crowds. There were way more people lingering on Main Street after closing than I had seen before. Couldn't even get in the door at Casey's or the ice cream shop. I'm thinking this is what Disney had hoped to see, crowds spending money without otherwise using up resources

Is crowding really that big of an issue? I have only seen that here. Twitter and elsewhere doesn't seem to talk about that as much. All of AK doesn't need to be open and like I have said before Disney wants people to experience Pandora especially at night. I don't think they want to make Pandora look more popular. It looks popular during the day too when everything else is open and it has the longest waits in AK right now. To me it makes sense, I am trying to understand why it doesn't make sense to others.
It doesn't make sense to me because there are only TWO things to do in the entire place.

It is THEE dumbest use of EMH I've ever seen.

We went to "experience" it at night and promptly left due to crowds and gridlock.

Leaving MK on July 2nd at close was a nightmare. The trams were not running efficiently and 100s of people were choosing to walk to their cars.

And the thing was, the park was LESS crowded than when we were there in March but leaving the MK was way more challenging.

I was there opening weekend when it was open an hour later than it is now and I simply disagree. I spent all night after RoL in Pandora and loved it.
