Minnie Vans "Uber" like transport begins soon!

They are Chevy Traverses so no. The vehicles are on site already.

Oh well ... buses/boats/monorails it will continue to be. :)

If the service takes off, I suppose it's something that could happen later if perceived demand was there.

I saw something that estimated it would be $15-$20 a ride. If that's the case, they won't even come close to putting a dent in Uber's market share.

I would bet that these would drop off/pick at the same spot as the express transportation between parks.

Austin, TX, blocked Uber and Lyft for a couple of years. I don't see why Disney couldn't do it, especially if they start touting the same safety concerns that the Austin City Council had. That could make Disney look really good in the eyes of protective parents.
There's still mears for that purpose too. Mears would probably become recommended if going off-property

I really can't imagine Disney wanting to compete with Uber when they don't have to. I fully expect Disney to attempt to keep Uber drivers off of their private property (hotels specifically). Like a post early says: they'll cite safety concerns.

They'll also probably get help from local law enforcement to keep people from stopping on public roadways just outside their properties for pickups and drop-offs.

We'll see, I guess.

I'm definitely all in for this. I wonder if this will be considered a tipped position. We take cabs now at the end of long nights instead of fighting buses. i wonder how big the fleet is. my only concern is not being able to find one at peak times

it's not going to happen. They can't stop ubers from dropping people off, plus uber takes people back to their hotels even if they're staying far away from disney and i'm pretty sure these mini vans are only going to driver people around disney.

You make some good points. With an actual guest in the car, an Uber driver would be able to get through security. But without a guest, they wouldn't have to let an Uber driver onto hotel grounds to pickup someone.

They could limit those pickups to taxis only - claiming they're more regulated.

I wonder how much Minnie Van drivers will be paid. It seems like they would have to be paid more than Uber drivers can make, or it wouldn't make much sense to drive a Minnie Van instead of an Uber.

Will passengers be expected to tip?

If they are hired as drivers by Disney they coudl be paid an hurly rate, just as bus drivers are paid. I think the tip would be optional, but likely most folks would add one on.

It's a different market though - going after the families (especially if they have car seats installed in them) who want the theming and "trust" dinner vs some random person

i think there is definitely room for both

Pretty sure it would CM that are driving them not separate drivers - so would be an hourly rate with standard benefits etc

And assuming it is CMs then I would think you would not be allowed to tip

First off Uber will NOT be banned from Disney Property. Maybe some modification of where they can and cant go but an all out ban WONT happen.

Second, I want to see more information about these vans. Can we use magic bands, charge to room, where drop off point etc.....

I am sure Disney will have some kind of extra perks using these over Uber.

Child seats are a huge question mark for me. Are they going to only offer to passengers who legally can sit in a normal seat? Or are they going to set-up a car seat (front facing/rear facing /booster) when a kid gets in? They can get around it with busses, but cars have legal provisions.

We're talking Disney, so I'm sure they are aware kids will be involved, and their Ad even has car seat age kids going nuts over the Minnie van. Plus, who wants to tell a 6 year old, "Sorry, you can't go in that Minnie Van until you're older."

Sure there's an answer, just curious to hear it.

Are all of the reports currently pointing towards this being an out-of-pocket cost? It would be great if you got a certain number of Minnie Van rides included with a resort stay.

I wonder why a Traverse when an actual "Minnie" van would hold more people and strollers and be much more user friendly?
