Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

I LOVE HURRICANE GRILL! Its headquarters are actually in my hometown. Delicious wings and burgers!

Anyways, honestly, I'm kind of disappointed in the people sitting at home criticizing those at WDW who are annoyed about the $14 snack box. I'm sure there's a happy medium between offering these sandwiches for free and for $14. If you're there and got some food beforehand, great. Good for you, but there's a lot of people at WDW who have never even thought about being involved in a hurricane, especially on vacation. Let's show some sympathy for those folks who are obviously really stressed right now and $14 for a sandwich I could've made (which isn't saying much 'cause I'm no cook) doesn't make that situation much better.

I was telling Dh about people at Poly and YC getting meet and greets with characters. He said if this was the Titantic the deluxe guests would be the people drinking the champagne while we at the values drown in cargo holds. (We did actually get a flashlight delivered to our room about 30 minutes ago, though)

Before anyone jumps down my throat, this is meant to be a JOKE!

I may or may not have made a similar joke to my husband when I was talking about the hurricane at WDW while we were at dinner tonight.

i bet the resorts with interior hallways are the getting that stuff yet because it can be distributed if needed. who are they going to send in the height of a storm to go door to door on the exterior?
I think, or thought they were in the lobby before the weather really started.

I was wondering about this as well. Have pool furniture and balcony tables/chairs been removed at the resorts?

Thoughts and prayers with everybody down there.

As of now, the pool furniture is still out. The umbrellas are tied down but that's it

still have been given nothing at pop. What I really want is someone to tell the drunk idiots to go back to their own rooms and stay inside.

Hey y'all heading offline to get some rest. Sending lots of love. Family in Key West was already planning for provisions in case power went out pending grid issues on mainland. I plan to check on them tomorrow; if anything seems germane to WDW I'll chime in. Friends in Port Orleans going through their first hurricane seem like they have the message to stay inside, and don't follow the lemmings who venture out before the storm passes through. (i.e.; don't use outside weather as an "all-clear" indicator)

May the Force as well as mindful compassion and safety be with ya! :grouphug:

After living through Katrina, I'm really shaking my head at the posts about no delivered flashlights, extra bath towels and $13 sandwich boxes. While sitting safely At Disneyworld no less.

Really??? Over 230 people have already lost their lives in Matthew and this is what's important? Definitely 1st world problems.
Every Disney problem is a 1st world problem. That doesn't make them less valid.

For all of you living in this area, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I am on the SW side of the State and can just imagine how you feel. I have family and many friends in the Orlando area and East Coast. I am worried about them tonight.
For all of you in the resorts, your trip may not be perfect nor turning out as planned. Please stay safe and listen to the news for alerts. Remember CM's are only human who are going through this storm away from their families, so if they aren't all magical and sprinkled with pixie dust, forgive them. Smile and thank them for being there. Stay safe everyone :upsidedow

Thanks for this!

Actually it does to me. During Hurricane the rules change and being safe is the only real concern. No one is going to starve before food service is back up to speed. Being in the dark won't kill you or having extra towels. So really everyone needs to simply focus on being safe and nothing else. As long as that is accomplished the rest does not matter. And yes I been through 3 hurricanes as a guest at Disney.

Disney is working with a lesser staff, staff that are also worried about their homes and family. I think they do a fabulous job during the storms, and I would never come on a forum and give them a hard time about any of it during a hurricane.

While the risk is a small one this is the risk you take when you travel during hurricane season. Also who travels without at least a small flashlight. Not me. Also I don't wait until the last moment to secure some food and water when a major hurricane is coming, even if I am at Disney. Sadly some of this misery is self inflicted.

I think the people complaining about the long lines for food should understand that they were designed to handle a small portion of people with the knowledge that most people would be at the parks.
With everyone being at the resort, their normal set up just doesn't handle the obvious crush.
Hopefully Disney pays attention and alters their emergency preparedness plan to cover this for future events.
Stay safe folks.

Haha! If anyone wants a break from all the stress of this storm, I had a very funny conversation with my folks (who have evacuated down to a Hampton Inn in inland Broward County) who were telling me about when they checked in, the receptionist offered them some rum. They declined but asked if any of the employees needed anything from the grocery store. Apparently, her boss asked for some grape juice to mix with the rum cause "we're all going to be drinking all night". My parents were joking that should something happen, they're on their own 'cause everyone at the front desk will be wasted. Should be interesting!

We're DVC members, and our party of seven is safely situated in our 2-bedroom and a studio at Saratoga Springs. No wind right now, and rain has been light all night. At the moment, we're watching a RedBox movie we picked up earlier today.

We got here last Saturday and were supposed to check out this Saturday, but we've extended through Sunday. No 2-bedrooms were available, so they put all of us in a grand villa for Saturday night. I was able to book it with points. A bummer that we'll have to pack and move rooms, but at least we have a (very nice) place to stay. We live on the coast of South Carolina, so we can't go home right now -- mandatory evacuation under way there.

We went to Epcot today and enjoyed light crowds. We had a FP for Soarin and literally walked straight into the 3-row boarding queue without even breaking stride. We then rode Frozen with a 25-minute wait and wandered around Food & Wine for a bit. We also took in a Voices of Liberty performance -- one of my favorite things to do. We left the park about 2 and filled up the rental car with gas. We had 3/4 of a tank but decided to top it off. Next, we headed to Disney Springs and got the last order of the day at Earl of Sandwich before they closed at 4. We ended up with four soups, a salad and 13 sandwiches for the seven of us. We ate some today, and some are in the fridge for tomorrow.

We made a Publix run last night and grabbed bottled water, bread, peanut butter and jelly, granola bars, chips, etc. We also picked up some sandwiches, a baguette and some desserts at the French bakery today. Since we live a half-mile from the ocean, we know what to do in a hurricane!

Earlier today, I grabbed a dinner reservation at The Turf Club here at SSR. So glad I did! The line for box meals at Artist's Palette was 90 minutes long -- snaking all through the lobby at times. Luckily, Chip and Dale were there entertaining kids.

Because we had a Turf Club ressie, we were able to wait in a line there and place a to-go order. Only people with reservations were allowed to order. We were seated at a table to wait for the order to be ready -- waited about 20 minutes. So we had a delicious, hot dinner.

Earlier today, a member of Mousekeeping stopped by to empty the trash and and deliver a flashlight, a huge stack of clean towels and toiletries such as shampoos, dishwashing detergent, toilet paper, tissues, etc. This was not our trash and towel day, so they're clearly not limiting towel service for DVC members. There are also carts of clean towels available at the elevators on each floor -- you can take as many as you need. We filled up our tub with water and got ice, too.

I've made a dinner ressie at T Rex for tomorrow night -- it's the only thing that popped up. Not sure if it will actually be open, but I figured it doesn't hurt to have it. I also added FP ressies and a dinner ressie for Saturday night since our stay has been extended.

All in all, I feel like we're as prepared as we can be. We're safe and dry, entertained and have plenty of food. Not much else we can do to prepare, so we'll just watch movies (as long as there's power!) and enjoy this extra together time with family and friends.

Thank you for that. I'm not on ride out (transitional duty after bilateral carpal tunnel release surgery + 5lb weight restriction = excluded from ride out), but I have several friends who are. One's at the Poly, another's at the Contemporary, and I'm not sure where the others are. They're away from their homes to take care of the guests.

I have not seen any forecast calling for Matthew to hit cat 5. I mean it COULD happen, anything can happen, but have not seen that in any forecasts..
Last NHC percent chance was 24 %, but I doubt it will happen. This has been a weird storm by all accounts...baffling even seasoned weather veterans....

But, "it aint over till its over...."

Andrew ramped up to CAT 5 in the last hours.....

Stay indoors
Stay Safe....

This stuff has been stacked, tables turned over, and tied down.
