Let's Complain About the 2017 Visa Perks

It's only discounted when the ship is in port. Didn't know if you saw that fine print or not.

I meant when I'm on a cruise, but I guess I need to pay attention to the fine print. That seriously reduces the amount of time I can get the massage. Grrrr.

I didn't even know about the $50 (I cruise next month). So when I booked 2 rooms and paid with the D visa I didn't know to mention a code. I, incorrectly, assumed that by using my Disney Visa card I would get perks w/o having to mention them (it's why I used it). Kind of feel annoyed about it. I think I'll follow others and look for a better rewarding card.

You can call and have them add it. That's what I did. Although I'm not a drinker so I'm not sure what I'll use it on.

It's usable on any beverage purchase, not just alcoholic ones. That would be the specialty coffee, or even just soda, if you get it from a lounge/theater server or room service. Bottled water counts also, I believe.

yep - I'm in the group that is now going to get points on my better cards. No benefit to me to really own the Disney visa anymore.
Agree. Just got the card for the $250 in gift cards, but we will cancel after this trip. I get much better points with my other cards.

As users of the $50 credit, I wish they would have honored it for those who are booked and paid in full before Jan 1st (cruise is in March 2017. ) My merch discount is much more than what is offered so we'd prefer the drink $$$!!

Well the perks offered vary from year to year. You happened to book when the perk was the OBC. If you had booked a cruise in 2017 you'd get the other perks.

I'm going to need to reread this after reading the thread. I was going to pay for my full cruise with my Disney Visa, then use my points and my gift cards for my on board account and use the $50 OBC. So I may be out of luck either way, but I may be okay (this is possibly our own Disney cruise for quite some time, so I might actually get a Shutters package? Maybe?).
The $50 credit was just so much simpler! But $50 won't make or break me with my budget.

I do, however, feel for the Gold and Platinum cruisers. Loyalty should be rewarded!

If you're thinking about getting a Chase Disney Rewards card to use on your cruise, don't do it. The rewards process feels like bait and switch from beginning to end. Disney customer service is legendary, but it doesn't extend to Chase or to this card. I can't tell you how I wish I'd used something else.

I have had this card for a decade and have used it for many rewards on both the cruise and at Disney World and have never had a single problem. It's a great benefit as long as you don't pay interest on any month or it defeats the purpose of the "free" rewards.

Wow, I could not disagree more! We have had the card for 6 years straight and have only had great experiences! Don't forget you can redeem it for free airfare as well. Disney Chase Visa has excellent customer service, dedicated just for its card holders. It has paid for itself many-fold over the years. You do not have to pay off the cruise in full, that is a myth. However you do get six months interest-free financing if you choose to , which is very, very nice! I get a ton of OBC from the rewards and free airfare as well. .

Yes, that too -- the 6 month free interest on any Disney package (cruise, resort vacation) and that is a very nice benefit also. I use it just for grocery shopping in-between trips. Granted, it doesn't give huge percentages, but it does add up and I know I'll get a few free meals or a free excursion with my points.

You are talking about the premier card (for air travel), which is not what I have. I have the card with no annual fee, which was sold to me as an excellent rewards program. It is not. The points are difficult to redeem and my redemption card was not accepted onboard, except to book another cruise. I have other credit cards with much more flexible rewards. And far better customer service.

That is the one I have -- no annual fee and just the basic card (I don't pay for premier) and have never had a problem getting my points on a card or redeeming them onboard. I am surprised that DCL did not take it. Now I know they have changed their OBC credit you used to get for booking with your Disney Visa, but as far as I know you can still have the points downloaded to a card and present it at guest services for credit. I've done it on five of our cruises -- sometimes with hundreds of dollars -- and it's always worked.

We've only had the premier card for the past two years. We've reedeemed the rewards card on board no problem, I am not really sure what you were referring to. We've used it in the Parks as well and also online when shopping Disney Store.com and regular disney stores. These were all points earned with a no annual fee regular card.

I'm really sorry you had trouble with them, but I don't think that is the norm.

Someone was mis-informed on board the ship if they didn't take it. I have had both cards (started with regular and upgraded to Premier). They both use the exact same rewards card to redeem your points (so on board the ship there would be no way to know if you have a regular Disney Visa or Premier version based on the rewards card). I have used the rewards cards at WDW, DL and DCL with no problem at all. And it is super easy to just log into your account and request the points be placed on the card. If you have a card already, it happens right away. If you don't have the card, they mail it right away.

Also I have only experienced great customer service from them. They have a dedicated group because they also follow the "have a magical day" type responses (like you get if you call Disney) when you call.

I wonder why they wouldn't accept the rewards redemption card. My last cruise, which was August 2015, I brought my card down to customer service and had them add the rewards dollars to my onboard account without any problems. Once I used all the rewards dollars, the remaining balance was charged to my Disney Visa. I plan to do the same on my cruise this June.

As others have mentioned, the 6 months 0% interest to pay off the cruise is a wonderful feature and I'm happy to have it since my upcoming cruise is quite expensive! The rewards redemption card always ends up depleted whenever I take a trip to WDW - I utilize my rewards dollars everywhere, including for ice cream at Ghirardelli!

I've never had an issues with this card and really like the customer service I get from Chase. Two months ago I had fraudulent purchases made on my card and they contacted me and the situation was rectified right away. I have nothing but good things to say about them. I'm sorry some of you had such poor experiences.
