Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part IV! (2012-2016)

Here is a few photos of a cake I ordered for my daughters 1st birthday. This was made by Chef Brian at the Contemporary. It costs $50 and it was worth it.

This is the design I would like does anyone think that AKL could do something like this?

Wanting to do a fancy, fondant Mad Hatter cake for my "unbirthday" in December. Was planning to make my ADR at 1900 PF as I thought my options may be greater going through the GF bakery. However, I've recently read some not so great comments about GF bakery and a lot of rave reviews for CR bakery. Would I be better off booking an ADR somewhere serviced by CR? (And yes, I realize that's a pretty subjective question, but want to know the good, the bad and the ugly before I make my ADR!) Thank you!! :)

Love this idea! I was thinking about an easter cake for our upcoming trip, but I like this idea so much more!

Also wondering if CR would deliver to Territory Lounge, or if we actually need an ADR for a cake delivery at WL.

pixarmom - there are some awesome examples of mad hatter cakes in the cake gallery, that's where I got the idea!

Has anyone done a Jack Skellington cake? We might go for my son's 5th birthday and he loves Jack! He dressed as him for Halloween!

I did a simple Grumpy cake for my dad as a surprise for his birthday in August. It's nothing fancy, but it got the job done and he loved it!

Do you remember which bakery did it for you? GF or Contemporary?

It was actually just done through calling the Disney cake hotline. So I'm not sure which bakery took care of it, but it wasn't through GF or Contemp.

Where was it served? That would tell you which bakery made it.

I've noticed some of the cakes on here are 2 layers and some are much higher with 4 layers. Please could someone let me know if this is something you order or does it depend on the bakery.

Thank you I'm getting close to being able to order and very excited

You can specify but I think sometimes they do it depending on design and the number of people it's expected to serve. When we ordered a Cinderella cake for my MIL's birthday we ordered a 6 inch and I wasn't expecting it to be so large when it arrived. It was 4 layers. When I ordered a 6 inch cake on my next trip for just me and ODS the quote came back much lower and I wasn't understanding why. Turned out to only be a 2 layer cake.

So be specific if it matters to you.

We'd like to surprise DD and her family with a "welcome back" cake at dinner our first night. Looks like Via is serviced by outside vendors. Could I order the cake at Balkan bakery, pock it up and take it with us for dinner? We'd like something besides the standard podium cake. Thks.

In searching for design ideas for a pirate themed cake I keep coming across these little pirate cake celebrations for kids. It looks like a plastic treasure chest and someone described it as having a Sara Lee pound cake inside that's frosted with sprinkles and then has a flag sticking out making it look like a pirate ship and some sort of coin or something in front. Anyone know if they still do these and where or how to get one?

I actually don't need the cake part but I'm trying to come up with an alternative dessert idea for my twins, who can't eat cake or most desserts, and if I could have something served like this they would be so thrilled!

Otherwise, I suppose I could try and figure out something similar and bring from home.

Thanks!

Has anyone had a Grumpy cake? That is soooo my DH when it comes to Disney and I plan to surprise next trip with a birthday cake. (I would do a Mr Incredible cake but he has no idea who that character is)

I found a couple pics searching online for other Disney cakes. I have no idea how to upload photos though. There's a cool one on the Cake Chatter Part III thread and you can search to find it. It's on page 246.

Hello Fellow cake chatter friends

I have been looking through all of the cake chatter threads and still I can't come up with a design.
I am looking for some advise
Cake for one (me),,perhaps a two tier mini cake.
I am a single mom and finally all three of my sons have graduated College/University and now have good careers/jobs.YEAH!
I'm so proud of them. It hasn't been easy at times but I did it and now want to eat some cake and celebrate.:cheer2:
Is there any tea cup/teapot/ design I could do with a two tier cake?
I am hoping to get a Be Our Guest Lunch ADR, however if not then I have a breakfast at Boma ADR and will be staying at OKW for a few days.

Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated
Thanks and
Hugs Mel
