June 27, 2013 - Magic in the Med (Venice)

.......

Sounds like a plan to me! :goodvibes If you figure out which bus to use before we do please post. :thanks:

I spent time on BING maps yesterday studying and printing out sections of cities and ports. I discovered it is a bit over a mile to the north from the Renaissance to Sagrada. We will walk. After a red-eye flight we will need the exercise. Casa Mila and the Gaudi house that looks kind of like a dragon are one street south of the Renaissance for the latter and about 5 blocks west on the same street for the former so those could be walking tours too.

I played with the picture of the Mickey logo made in words by putting the Goofy in a toga from our DCL cruise docs page on it and the dates for the cruise. Another version has just the Goofy. He is off center so I did it again and centered him.

Some are thinking of using it for magnets or shirts. I loaded them to Photobucket this morning and posted them here--on page 68.

FE--we don't participate but do know that on some of our cruises when the group gets to a set size they close it and start another. Some people sign up for one group and some for more.

: banana : with no spaces between : and letters = so if you don't see the emoticon you can type him in. :yay:

Yeah Kim is awesome and a good friend of mine. We traveled with her in 2010. I'll tell her when we hook up in WDW next month that you like her report. :lmao:

:thumbsup2
I've already contacted her about her Malta info. She found a private tour company that will let you customize your own tour in Malta. It looked pretty good so I am most likely going to use them too.

Anyone interested in sharing a private tour in Malta that includes a visit to the Hypogeum let me know:cool1:

We got our Barcelona Street map in the mail yesterday (along with Venice and Rome). I was excited that the Renaissance is marked on the map (although it's marked at AC Diplomat still) and was able to start getting my bearings as to which was Sagrada Familia was from the hotel.

I'm excited to start studying Venice - I haven't looked into much about Venice yet as I've been waiting for the port excursions to be listed to give me some specific ideas of what we might do through DCL so I'd know what else we'd do on our own. Everyone says Venice is super easy to do on your own, so I really do think we'll do the first day on our own and then the 2nd day with DCL if they offer something we'd like to do and it's not too much money.

Cindy Durrett created this:

I added the Goofy in a toga from the cruise docs page of the website:

and added dates for our cruise:

But then I realized he was not centered. Goofy is not a very centered person,
but
some of us are
so I did it again:

Let the final planning begin!! The excursions for Venice and Dubrovnik are finally online. (oops just saw someone beat me to it:thumbsup2)

Jan, that looks awesome!! Is that available for all of us to use? I'd like to use that for my avatar.

Jan - I love the idea of adding Goofy and the dates!

I made the graphic through tagxedo.com based on instructions from someone on the June 15th Greece cruise we're also doing. I can post the instructions here if folks want to make their own for magnets, etc. I'll have to do it tonight when I can access facebook - or if someone wants to grab that post and post it here, feel free to do so.

 THANKS :flower3:

My understanding, preference and opinion is that any art or photos :surfweb: posted on line are useful and available for others to use as they see fit. :thumbsup2

SO ::yes::

:goodvibes HAVE AT IT! :artist:

pixiedust: I will be interested to see and hear how anyone uses these designs and any other designs people create! The more the merrier! :cool1:

Malta is up too!

Whoo-hoo :cool1:

We will be looking at excursions tonight!

Venice is super easy to do on your own :) Mom and I spent a few days in Venice as part of a Christmas Italy trip in 2007. Venice is also super easy to get lost in, so bring a very good map. Few of the streets are straight, so you will get turned around at least once, but that's part of the fun of Venice :) We chose this cruise (over one with Greece) because Mom wanted to go back to Venice. It's a gorgeous city. Just get a pass for the waterbus and a good map and you'll be fine.

Funny you say that because I got my Streetwise map of Venice (and Barcelona and Rome) in the mail yesterday, and today's blogpost I made is about just that!

I will say that of all the offerings from my first perusal, the one that appeals to me the most is Doge's Palace for Early Risers - even though it's super expensive, I think it would be an awesome thing to see / do. I may look at it as MY splurge for the trip and leave my DH and boys to sleep in a bit and meet up later in the morning - I will want to see what time it starts to have an idea of whether to book it or not. I know the boys won't be interested and not sure if DH would want to do it with me or not.

So who here is Platinum and when do you get to book? And when you book, after you have your own excursions reserved, would you be willing to check times for some of the other excursions (such as the Doge's Palace for Early Risers)? We had someone on the Greece thread who was able to do that for us and it's been helpful to others in making their plans.

Hi everyone...I have been super quiet on the boards...lots of family things going on...but very glad to be going on this trip...I am also headed to DW with Lori at the end of march :cool1::cool1:
I am platinum and can book at midnight on the 26th...I would be happy to check out the timings of excursions...:)

I can't decide whether to book another Disney cruise or take a 30 minute gondola ride in Venice. They're both about the same price.:sad2:

LOL - thanks for the chuckle - we had already had a discussion tonight about whether anyone's visit to Venice would be disappointing if we DIDN'T do a gondola ride... everyone agreed that the vaporetto would be sufficient :)

Here are the instructions for making the Mickey shaped word-art like is shown in a few posts above. I got the instructions originally from a DISer on the Greece cruise and modified them to make them a bit more streamlined. There is a file that is necessary for the Mickey head that I'm not sure if I can attach here or if I post it here, it might shrink it too much - so if you want it, send me a PM with your email address and I'll email it to you. I check DIS a few times a day :)

So onto the instructions:

These are instructions on how to use www.tagxedo.com to make a Mickey-Head shaped graphic that has words inserted in it.

1. If you want it in the shape of Mickey Ears, you need to download the plain black mickey ears jpg file (PM me for it). Put that somewhere on your computer where you'll have easy access to it because you will upload it to tagxedo later. I save stuff like that right to my desktop so I don't have to drill for it. They have some pre-set shapes that you can use and/or experiment with to see how it works.

2. Make a list of all the words you want to display in the image. Use notepad or word to create it in, with one word per line. If you have two words that you want to stay together (like La Spezia), then you will need to put a ~ between the words instead of a space - so you would put La~Spezia instead of La Spezia. Save this file because you will copy/paste this list into the tagxedo site.

3. Go to http://www.tagxedo.com/ and once there, look to the top right and you'll see the word CREATE. Click that CREATE and a new page will open.

4. On the left side, you will see the word LOAD... Click that and it will pop open a box for you to use to put your words into. The easiest thing to do is to copy/paste the list of words you made in step 2 into the ENTER TEXT portion of the pop-up box. The box can be sensitive if your mouse doesn't stay over it so just move your mouse so you can see the box to paste your words into. If you have more words, you can add them here as well (or if you want to skip step 2 and just enter the words here, you can do that as well). After you have the words in, press SUBMIT button to the right. It will take a minute and the image will "respin" and you will see they replace the words in the sample that it started out with.

5. To have the shape change to a Mickey Head shape, you'll need to use the black arrow that is by the word SHAPE on the leftside. That will bring up a box with a variety of shapes to choose from, but the Mickey Head is one you will have to upload. Near the bottom below the images is a place to ADD IMAGE. Click that and then follow the dialog box to browse/drill to where you saved the Mickey Head jpg from step 1. That will upload the image to tagxedo for this session. After the image uploads, a box will appear that has COMMIT BRUSH which you will want to set to WHITE and INTERIOR which you will want to set to BLACK. Be sure to click the ACCEPT button afterwards.

6. To change the colors, you'll want to look for the word THEME that is on the leftside of the screen (above where SHAPE was in step 5) and click on the black arrow next to it. This will bring up a variety of theme colors that have been pre-determined. The one I used before was HAPPY BRIGHTS but you can see there are a lot of choices.

7. To change the fonts, use the FONT button that you'll see just below THEME and click the black arrow to see font choices. I chose 4-5 different fonts - just look at them to decide which ones you want to use and play around with it.

8. You need not do anything with the Orientation setting, unless you want a sideways or upside down set of mickey ears.........

9. Once you have done that, then the website should build your graphics file. You should then click "Save | Share" - it will ask you what size graphic you want - if you are making a t-shirt, you want a bigger graphic (16MP PNG). If you are making a magnet, then the 4MP PNG. Save the image to your computer. You can save multiple times so you can save the same image in different sizes depending on what you want to do with it.

10. If you want to make more of these during the session, you can - just go to the LOAD to change the words, or THEMES to change colors or FONT to change the fonts. Just remember to save the images you want because if you don't, you'll have to start all over. And if you close out of tagxedo before you're done, you'll have to start over including reuploading the Mickey Head image.

I think this will work - but if not, PM me and I'll send it by email.

I think you can just right-click and save.

Love the graphic Jan! Might just have to use that as a stateroom door decoration. :)

Yay! the rest of the excursions have been uploaded. FINALLY!!!! :cool1:

Travel agent told us we could start booking excursions March 31, but before that she told us April. We've been paid in full for a while now. Does anyone know is 3/31 is the official date for silver CC members?

If you have your reservation number, you can check yourself for when you can start booking - just go to disneycruise.com and Get Reservation there. It will pull your reservation us and tell you when your check-in date is, etc.
